What this celebrity heights hub covers

This hub collects sourced heights for the most-searched famous people: actors, musicians, athletes, politicians, models and entertainers. Around 100 of them have their own page with a full article, a chart, comparisons and notes on how their height has been reported. Behind them sits a much larger catalog: more than 5,700 people, from Premier League footballers and NBA players to tennis professionals, US presidents and royalty, all available in the height comparison tool even if they don't have a page of their own.

Celebrity height is one of the most searched and most argued-about topics online. That's partly curiosity and partly because height is hard to judge on screen, where camera angles, footwear and casting choices all distort it. This guide explains where the numbers on this site come from, why famous heights are so often disputed, what the data shows about height in different professions, and how to make fair comparisons.

Where the heights come from

Every height on this site has a source. The starting point for nearly all people is Wikidata, the free, structured knowledge base run by the Wikimedia Foundation, whose height property (P2048) records the "vertical length of an entity" with units and, where available, references. Wikidata is published under a CC0 license, which makes it possible to reuse and cite at scale. It's a good starting point, but its entries vary in quality: some cite official sources and others cite nothing.

So wherever an authoritative source exists, the site adds it on top, and it takes precedence:

  • League and club rosters, such as NBA.com player profiles and Premier League, club and ATP profiles. These are the strongest sources for athletes, especially in leagues that measure players.
  • Official biographies and artist profiles, for example Billboard artist pages for musicians.
  • Reputable interviews and reporting, when a person has stated their own height on the record.

Where reputable sources disagree, the person's page keeps one canonical figure and explains the conflict in a note. A few examples from the featured pages: Taylor Swift is listed at 180 cm (5′11″) by Billboard but is also widely reported at 5′10″. Lionel Messi's old FC Barcelona profile gave 169 cm, while Inter Miami lists him at 5′7″ (170 cm). And George Washington was never officially measured; contemporaries described him as about 6′2″.

Why celebrity heights are so often disputed

Most celebrities have never been measured in public. Unlike athletes in leagues with physicals, actors and musicians rarely have an official measurement. Figures come from interviews, agency profiles or estimates, and they get copied from site to site until they look authoritative.

Shoes change everything. Everyday shoes add a few centimeters, and many listed heights are probably taken in them. Kevin Hart, listed here at 158 cm, has joked about his height for years. In a 2023 podcast interview reported by Atlanta Black Star, he said he didn't realize he was short until he spent time around professional athletes. His page notes that he described himself in a 2024 60 Minutes interview as 5′5″ "with a sneaker," while 5′2″ is the barefoot figure most often reported.

Even sports listings drift. For decades, NBA teams and players controlled their own roster heights. As CBS Sports reported in 2019, players such as Kevin Durant and Kevin Garnett preferred listings below 7 feet, while Allen Iverson's 6′0″ listing was widely considered questionable. That season the league began requiring physician-certified, shoes-off heights for every player. Durant's page notes he was measured at 6′10″ without shoes in 2019, while his current NBA.com profile lists 6′11″ (210.8 cm). Charles Barkley's NBA.com legends profile says he was listed at 6′6″ but was closer to 6′4″.

Height changes during the day. A 1986 study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine measured an average daily height change of 14.4 mm, as the spinal discs compress. A morning measurement and an evening red-carpet appearance can differ by more than a centimeter, before footwear is even considered.

Self-reports skew tall. Researchers who study population height exclude self-reported figures for this reason. The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, which estimates average heights for 200 countries, used only measured heights because self-reports are "subject to systematic bias."

Height by profession: what the catalog shows

The catalog is large enough to compare professions. The table shows average listed heights by category in the full catalog, next to the measured US adult averages from the NHANES 2021–2023 survey (men 175.1 cm, women 161.2 cm).

Category Men: average listed height Women: average listed height
Basketball (430 men) 202.7 cm (6′7.8″) —
American football (283 men) 190.4 cm (6′3″) —
Tennis (82 men, 99 women) 186.3 cm (6′1.3″) 174.5 cm (5′8.7″)
Football/soccer (2,862 men, 61 women) 180.8 cm (5′11.2″) 165.0 cm (5′5″)
Actors (356 men, 389 women) 180.7 cm (5′11.1″) 167.7 cm (5′6″)
Models (53 women) — 175.9 cm (5′9.3″)
US presidents (45 men) 180.2 cm (5′10.9″) —
US adults, measured (NHANES) 175.1 cm (5′8.9″) 161.2 cm (5′3.5″)

A few patterns are worth noting.

  • Basketball is in a league of its own. The average player listed in the catalog is nearly 28 cm taller than the average American man, which is well beyond the 99.9th percentile of US men.
  • Tennis favors height, especially at the top. The four women tennis players with featured pages, Coco Gauff, Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova, average about 181 cm.
  • Footballers vary most. Soccer rewards very different body types by position: among featured players, Diego Maradona is listed at 165 cm and Erling Haaland at 195 cm.
  • Actors are listed taller than the public. Male actors average about 5.6 cm above US men and female actors about 6.5 cm above US women. Some of that may reflect casting, and some may reflect listings that are rounded up or taken in shoes. Because few actors are measured, it's impossible to separate the two.

Musicians: the widest spread on stage

Musicians show the biggest range of any featured group, because nothing about singing or rapping depends on height. The 11 women musicians with pages average 166.6 cm, from Lady Gaga at 155 cm to Taylor Swift at 180 cm, a 25 cm spread within a single profession. Among the men, Tory Lanez is listed at 160 cm and Yung Gravy at 201.9 cm, a gap of almost 42 cm. Bruno Mars (165.1 cm), Justin Bieber (175.3 cm), Drake (182.9 cm) and Harry Styles (183 cm) fill in the middle. Stage footwear and camera angles make musicians' heights especially hard to judge from concert footage, which is one reason fans search for them so often.

Who gets a featured page

Featured people are chosen by how often their height is searched, not by fame in general or by how tall or short they are. That's why the list includes current stars alongside historical figures such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, whose heights people still look up. Anyone else in the catalog can be compared in the tool, and the list is reviewed as search interest changes.

Celebrities against their country's average

A height that is ordinary in one country can be remarkable in another, so each person's page compares them with the average for their nationality, using NCD Risk Factor Collaboration estimates for people born in 1996. Here's how that looks for a selection of featured people:

Person Listed height Country average (same sex) Difference
Yao Ming (China) 229 cm 171.8 cm +57.2 cm
Hakeem Olajuwon (Nigeria) 213 cm 165.9 cm +47.1 cm
Dirk Nowitzki (Germany) 213 cm 179.9 cm +33.1 cm
Maria Sharapova (Russia) 188 cm 165.3 cm +22.7 cm
Erling Haaland (Norway) 195 cm 179.7 cm +15.3 cm
Neymar (Brazil) 175 cm 173.6 cm +1.4 cm
Kylian Mbappé (France) 178 cm 179.7 cm −1.7 cm
Tom Holland (UK) 173 cm 177.5 cm −4.5 cm
Lionel Messi (Argentina) 169 cm 174.6 cm −5.6 cm

The comparison is approximate. NCD-RisC averages describe one young birth cohort, while many celebrities were born decades earlier, when averages in most countries were lower. Diego Maradona, born in 1960, is a good example: at 165 cm he's 9.6 cm below the Argentine average for men born in 1996, but the gap with men of his own generation would have been smaller. Still, the table shows something useful. Global superstars aren't uniformly tall. Outside basketball and tennis, many of the most famous athletes and actors sit close to, or below, their national average.

Presidents and the politics of height

US presidents are an unusually well-studied group. In a 2013 study in The Leadership Quarterly, Gert Stulp and colleagues at the University of Groningen and VU University Amsterdam found that presidents were, on average, much taller than men of their birth cohorts. Taller candidates won more popular votes, though they weren't significantly more likely to win the election, and taller presidents were more likely to be reelected. Experts also rated taller presidents as "greater," with stronger leadership and communication skills, which the authors offered as a possible explanation.

Among the nine presidents with featured pages, heights range from John Adams at 170 cm to Donald Trump at 190.5 cm, with Thomas Jefferson and Bill Clinton at 189 cm, George Washington at 188 cm, Barack Obama at 187 cm, John F. Kennedy at 185 cm, Joe Biden at 183 cm and John Quincy Adams at 171 cm. Historical figures are the hardest to verify, because many were never measured with modern instruments.

Rank Tallest featured Height Shortest featured Height
1 Yao Ming 229 cm (7′6″) Jenna Ortega 155 cm (5′1″)
2 Shaquille O'Neal 216 cm (7′1″) Lady Gaga 155 cm (5′1″)
3 Joel Embiid, Dirk Nowitzki, Hakeem Olajuwon 213 cm (7′0″) Ariana Grande 157.5 cm (5′2″)
4 Kevin Garnett 211 cm (6′11″) Kevin Hart 158 cm (5′2″)
5 Kevin Durant 210.8 cm (6′11″) Tory Lanez, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat 160 cm (5′3″)

Every one of the tallest featured celebrities is a basketball player. The gap between Yao Ming and Kevin Hart is 71 cm, about the height of a dining table. Among the women, the range runs from 155 cm to Maria Sharapova's 188 cm, a 33 cm spread.

Making fair comparisons

If you want to know how you'd measure up next to a star, a few habits make the comparison meaningful:

  1. Use your barefoot height, measured against a wall in the morning.
  2. Check the person's page for notes. If a height is disputed, the note tells you the plausible range.
  3. Compare like with like. Athletes in measured leagues are the most reliable; actors and musicians are less certain.
  4. Think in ranges, not single numbers. A difference of one or two centimeters between you and a celebrity is within the uncertainty of most listings.

For an exact gap and where your head would reach, use the height difference calculator. For context on how any height ranks in the population, see average height in the United States and other countries.

How to use the celebrity pages

The hub lists featured people by category, with the tallest and shortest at a glance. Each person's page includes the canonical height in centimeters and feet and inches, its sources, a to-scale chart, the person's height against their country's average, similar-height celebrities, and a long-form article covering how their height has been reported over time. One click on "compare" opens them in the main tool, where you can add yourself, friends, characters or even a building.

Research on couples is a reminder of how much attention people pay to height. In a UK study of more than 12,000 couples published in PLOS ONE, the man was taller in 92.5 percent of pairs. Height is noticed, discussed and sometimes exaggerated. The aim of this hub is simple: to give you the best-sourced number available, be clear about its limits, and let you see the comparison for yourself.

Celebrity height FAQ

Why do celebrity heights differ from site to site?

Most celebrities have never been measured publicly. Different sites rely on interviews, agency profiles, fan estimates or photos, and some figures are taken in shoes. This site uses Wikidata plus official sources such as league rosters, and notes known disagreements on each person's page.

Are NBA heights measured barefoot now?

Yes. Since the 2019–20 season, NBA teams have had to submit physician-certified heights measured without shoes for every player, within a week of training camp or of signing. Before that, listings were controlled by teams and players.

Are taller presidential candidates more likely to win?

A 2013 study in The Leadership Quarterly found that taller candidates received more popular votes and taller presidents were more likely to be reelected, but taller candidates were not significantly more likely to win the election itself.

Can I compare myself with a celebrity who has no page of their own?

Yes. Only the most-searched people have their own page, but more than 5,700 people are in the comparison tool's catalog. Search for any of them in the tool and add yourself alongside.

Who is the shortest celebrity with a page on this site?

Jenna Ortega and Lady Gaga are both listed at 155 cm (5 ft 1 in), followed by Ariana Grande at 157.5 cm and Kevin Hart at 158 cm.

Do celebrities lie about their height?

Some listings are known to be generous, and some athletes have said they preferred a different listing. Rather than speculate, this site records the cited figure and notes reputable reports of a different measurement, such as Kevin Durant being measured at 6 ft 10 in without shoes.

Who is the tallest celebrity on this page?

Yao Ming is the tallest person listed here at 229 cm (7′6″).

Who is the shortest celebrity on this page?

Lady Gaga is the shortest at 155 cm (5′1″).

Where do these celebrity heights come from?

Every height is taken from a cited source — typically official team or league rosters, Wikidata and other published references — and each person's page lists its sources. Celebrity heights are often self-reported, so treat them as approximate.

Can I compare a celebrity's height with mine?

Yes. Open any person's page and enter your height to see the difference, or search all 5,705 people in the 3D height comparison tool and add them alongside yourself.
