How tall is Billie Eilish?
Billie Eilish is 5′4″, or 162.6 cm. Billboard's artist profile states that she "stands at a height of 5′4″," and that is the figure this site uses. Wikidata, the open database used by many reference sites, does not currently record a height for her, so Billboard's listing is the main published source.
At 5′4″ she is very close to the height of a typical American woman, which makes her one of the more relatable reference points among major pop stars. She is shorter than many of the artists she is compared with, including Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, and taller than Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter.

A Highland Park childhood and an unusual start
Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell grew up in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Her parents, the actress and teacher Maggie Baird and the actor Patrick O'Connell, are both musicians who now work on her tours. She and her older brother, Finneas, born in 1997, were homeschooled by their mother, who also taught them the basics of songwriting. The family encouraged both children to explore art, dancing and acting.
Eilish picked up the ukulele at six, joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at eight, and wrote her first real song at eleven for her mother's songwriting class. She also recorded background crowd dialogue for films, which she enjoyed far more than auditioning.
Dance, a growth plate injury and "Ocean Eyes"
One episode from her teenage years connects directly to her physical development. Eilish took dance classes until 2016, when a growth plate injury ended her dance training. The details of the injury have not been published, and this page does not speculate about them.
What is documented is how closely dance and her music career were tied. "Ocean Eyes," the song that made her famous, was written, mixed and produced by Finneas, who had first made it for his band, the Slightlys, before deciding it suited his sister's voice better. He gave it to her when her dance teacher at the Revolution Dance Center, Fred Diaz, asked the siblings to write a song for choreography. They uploaded it to SoundCloud on November 18, 2015, so that Diaz could download it.
The upload was meant for a dance class, but it reached several hundred thousand listens within two weeks. Finneas's manager, Danny Rukasin, contacted him about Billie's potential, and in August 2016 Justin Lubliner, who had heard "Ocean Eyes" the year before, signed her to Darkroom and Interscope Records. A dance-performance video for the song went up on her YouTube channel in November 2016, the same year the injury ended her own dance training. From then on, recording was her focus.
A record-setting career
Eilish's achievements are unusually concentrated for an artist who was born in 2001. Billboard's chart history lists "Bad Guy" as a Hot 100 No. 1 that spent 49 weeks on the chart, and "Birds of a Feather" as a No. 2 hit with 67 weeks on the chart.
| Year | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 2015 | "Ocean Eyes" released on SoundCloud |
| 2017 | Don't Smile at Me EP |
| 2019 | When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? debuts at No. 1; "Bad Guy" tops the Hot 100 |
| 2020 | Wins all four general-field Grammys in one night; announced as the voice of the Bond theme "No Time to Die" |
| 2021 | Happier Than Ever debuts at No. 1 |
| 2022 | Oscar for Best Original Song, "No Time to Die" |
| 2024 | Second Oscar, for "What Was I Made For?" from Barbie; Hit Me Hard and Soft |
"Bad Guy" was the first single by an artist born in the 21st century to top the Hot 100 and to be certified Diamond by the RIAA. At the 62nd Grammy Awards she became the youngest person to win Best New Artist, Record, Song and Album of the Year in the same night, and only the second artist ever to sweep all four. When she was announced as the singer of "No Time to Die," she became the youngest artist to write and perform a James Bond theme. The song went on to become only the second Bond theme to top the official British chart, and the first by a female artist to do so. Her second Oscar, in 2024, made her the youngest two-time Academy Award winner in any category.

Justin Bieber, from fan to collaborator
Eilish grew up listening to a wide range of artists, from the Beatles and Green Day to Lana Del Rey and Justin Bieber. In July 2019 a remix of "Bad Guy" featuring Bieber was released, a collaboration with an artist she had admired as a child. Bieber is listed at 175.3 cm, about 12.7 cm (5 inches) taller than Eilish.
Finneas, her brother and producer
Finneas Baird O'Connell, born July 30, 1997, is four and a half years older than Billie and has written and produced music for her from the start, and her debut album was written and recorded with him. He has two Academy Awards and eleven Grammys of his own, many for work with his sister. His production credits also reach beyond her: he produced Selena Gomez's 2019 single "Lose You to Love Me," which went to No. 1 on the Hot 100, linking two of the stars in the comparison table above. He has his own career as a singer, songwriter, producer and actor. The site does not hold a verified height for him, so this page does not compare the siblings.
Lana Del Rey
Lana Del Rey, another of the artists Eilish names among her childhood listening, is listed at 170 cm, about 7.4 cm (3 inches) taller.
The other 5′4″ and 5′5″ stars
Selena Gomez (165.1 cm) and Olivia Rodrigo (165 cm) are each about an inch taller than Eilish, a difference that disappears with ordinary shoes. If you lined up Eilish, Gomez and Rodrigo in flats, the difference would be hard to see without a measuring tape. To test any of these pairings visually, use the height comparison tool.
Fashion, image and the conversation about her body
Much of the early media attention around Eilish focused on her style, which for years consisted mainly of baggy, oversized clothing. She said in 2017 that she liked dressing out of her comfort zone and against what others were wearing, aiming to look memorable. In a May 2019 Calvin Klein advertisement she gave a more personal reason: she dressed in baggy clothes to prevent people from judging her body.
That theme became the subject of her own work. In March 2020, during a concert in Miami on the Where Do We Go? Tour, she premiered Not My Responsibility, a short film addressing her experiences of body shaming; she uploaded it to YouTube that May. Her June 2021 cover for British Vogue, photographed by Craig McDean, marked a deliberate change of look, and a post of that cover reached a million Instagram likes in under six minutes.
This page follows her lead and does not discuss her body or weight. No official source publishes a weight for her, and the only physical measurement Billboard lists is her height. Her fashion has stayed in the headlines for other reasons. At her first Met Gala, in 2021, she wore an Oscar de la Renta gown on the condition that the fashion house permanently stop using real fur, and in February 2022 she became the youngest person to reach 100 million Instagram followers, at 20.
How Billie Eilish compares with the average American woman
Eilish is close to average for American women. The CDC's measured national survey for 2015–2018 found that women aged 20 and over averaged 161.3 cm, with a median of exactly the same figure. Among women aged 20 to 29, her current age group, the average was 162.6 cm, precisely Eilish's listed height. In other words, she is the statistical average for young American women.
The NCD-RisC estimates used on the site's United States average height page put the average woman born in 1996, the latest cohort in the dataset, at 163.5 cm. Eilish, born five years later, is about 0.9 cm shorter than that cohort average, which is well within normal variation.
| Group | Average height | Eilish's difference |
|---|---|---|
| US women 20–29 (CDC, 2015–2018) | 162.6 cm | 0 cm |
| US women 20+ (CDC, 2015–2018) | 161.3 cm | +1.3 cm |
| US women born 1996 (NCD-RisC) | 163.5 cm | −0.9 cm |
| US men 20+ (CDC, 2015–2018) | 175.3 cm | −12.7 cm |
These figures are worth trusting because they come from measurement, not self-report. In the CDC's survey, standing height was measured with a wall-mounted stadiometer to the nearest 0.1 cm, on a nationally representative sample of more than 5,500 adult women. Celebrity listings, by contrast, are usually given in whole inches. If Billboard's 5′4″ is rounded to the nearest inch, her true height could fall anywhere from about 161.3 cm (5′3½″) to 163.8 cm (5′4½″), and the conclusion is the same at either end: she is within a centimeter or two of the average.
Measured against all adult women, 162.6 cm sits a little above the median and below the 75th percentile (166.0 cm), roughly the 55th to 60th percentile. You can check any height precisely with the height percentile calculator.
Why her height matters to fans
For many fans, Eilish's height is part of what makes her relatable. She sells out arenas and has won Oscars and Grammys at an age when most people are still in college, yet she is the same height as the average American woman in her twenties. Her listed 5′4″ also gives fans a simple way to compare themselves with her: a 5′4″ fan would meet her eye to eye, a 5′9″ fan would stand roughly where Bieber does, and a 5′11″ fan would match Taylor Swift.
