Beyoncé's height: 5′7″ according to Billboard
The site lists Beyoncé at 170.2 cm (5′7″). The figure comes from her official artist profile on Billboard, which states plainly that "her height is 5'7"." That makes Beyoncé one of the few pop stars whose height appears in the profile of a major music publication rather than only in fan databases or tabloid features. The 170.2 cm value is simply the exact conversion of 5 feet 7 inches.
Like all musicians, Beyoncé has never been measured in a public, standardized setting, so 5′7″ should be understood as a published listing. It has, however, been remarkably consistent over her career, and it matches how she appears next to people whose heights are well documented, including her former Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland and her sister, Solange Knowles.

From Houston to the world: a career on stage
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born on September 4, 1981, in Houston, Texas, and grew up performing. Billboard's profile traces her start to Destiny's Child, whose first hit, "No, No, No," came in 1997, followed by the breakthrough album The Writing's on the Wall in 1999. Her solo debut, Dangerously in Love (2003), entered the Billboard 200 at number one, and its lead single "Crazy in Love," featuring Jay-Z, topped the Hot 100 for eight weeks. The two married in 2008.
Since then she has become one of the most decorated artists in history. Billboard notes that in February 2023 she became the most-awarded artist in Grammy history, passing the conductor Georg Solti with her 32nd award, and that in 2025 she won Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter. The same year, Billboard named her the greatest pop star of the 21st century.
Her career has always centered on live performance: arena and stadium tours, two Super Bowl halftime appearances (headlining Super Bowl XLVII in 2013), the Coachella performance documented in Homecoming, the Renaissance World Tour in 2023 and the Cowboy Carter Tour in 2025, which her Wikipedia biography describes as the highest-grossing country tour ever.
Height and stage performance
For a performer whose shows feature intense choreography, height matters in a different way than it does in film. At 170.2 cm, Beyoncé is taller than most American women, which gives her long lines in dance, a strong silhouette from a distance and a commanding presence in stadium-sized venues.
She also performs in heels far more often than many dancers would choose. Her stage looks routinely include heeled boots and stilettos, which add 8 to 12 cm to her apparent height. In heels, a 170 cm performer reads as about 180 cm or more on stage, roughly the height of an average American man.
| Footwear | Approximate added height | Apparent height |
|---|---|---|
| Barefoot | 0 cm | 170.2 cm (5′7″) |
| Flats or sneakers | 2–3 cm | about 173 cm (5′8″) |
| Mid-height heel | 6–8 cm | about 177 cm (5′9½″) |
| Stage stiletto or heeled boot | 10–12 cm | about 181 cm (5′11″) |
That table explains why her height is often overestimated. Most images of Beyoncé come from performances and red carpets, where she is almost always in heels. Seen next to a man of average height in those photos, she can look as tall or taller, even though her barefoot height is about 7 cm below the average American man.
Destiny's Child and the Knowles family by height
Destiny's Child went through several lineups before settling on its best-known trio of Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The site lists Rowland at 173 cm. It does not currently hold a verified height for Williams, so she is not included in the table rather than being estimated.
| Person | Relationship | Height (site data) | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kelly Rowland | Destiny's Child bandmate | 173 cm (5′8″) | Rowland +2.8 cm |
| Solange Knowles | Younger sister | 172 cm (5′7½″) | Solange +1.8 cm |
| Beyoncé | — | 170.2 cm (5′7″) | — |
The three are within 3 cm of one another, a range so small that footwear, posture and camera angle decide who looks tallest in any given photo. In Destiny's Child performances, the trio were usually styled in matching or coordinated heels, which preserved that near-equal look on stage.
The site doesn't list heights for Beyoncé's parents, Tina Knowles and Mathew Knowles, because reputable sources haven't published them. Jay-Z's height is also not currently held in the site's data, so it isn't included here.
Beyoncé next to her collaborators
Beyoncé has collaborated with many of the biggest names in music and film, and the comparisons below use the site's data.
| Person | Collaboration | Height (site data) | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lady Gaga | "Telephone" (2010) | 155 cm | Beyoncé +15.2 cm |
| Shakira | "Beautiful Liar" (2007) | 157 cm | Beyoncé +13.2 cm |
| Nicki Minaj | "Feeling Myself" (2014) | 160 cm | Beyoncé +10.2 cm |
| Rihanna | Fellow pop superstar | 173 cm | Rihanna +2.8 cm |
| Megan Thee Stallion | "Savage" remix (2020) | 177.8 cm | Megan +7.6 cm |
| Serena Williams | Appeared in the Lemonade visual album | 175 cm | Serena +4.8 cm |
| Idris Elba | Obsessed (2009) | 189 cm | Elba +18.8 cm |
| Eddie Murphy | Dreamgirls (2006) | 175 cm | Murphy +4.8 cm |
"Telephone" and "Beautiful Liar"
Two of Beyoncé's best-known duets paired her with much shorter stars. In the "Telephone" video, Lady Gaga, listed at 155 cm, is about 15 cm shorter, though Gaga's famously high platforms close much of that gap on screen. In "Beautiful Liar," a duet built around mirrored choreography, Shakira, listed at 157 cm, is about 13 cm shorter, and the video's styling and camera work make the two look closely matched.
Megan Thee Stallion and Serena Williams
The comparison runs the other way with Megan Thee Stallion, who is listed at 177.8 cm and is about 7.6 cm taller than Beyoncé. Serena Williams, who appeared in the Lemonade visual album, is listed at 175 cm, about 3 cm shorter than Megan.

Beyoncé on screen
Beyoncé's acting roles include Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002), Dreamgirls (2006), Cadillac Records (2008), in which she played Etta James, and Obsessed (2009), as well as voicing Nala in The Lion King (2019). In Dreamgirls, she played Deena Jones opposite Eddie Murphy, listed at 175 cm, and in Obsessed she starred opposite Idris Elba, listed at 189 cm, a gap of almost 19 cm that made Elba one of her tallest screen partners.
Her most widely seen screen role, as the voice of Nala in The Lion King (2019), is the one where her height plays no part at all. In voice work and animation, the character's size is set by the animators, which is a neat illustration of how separate a performer's real height can be from the way audiences picture them. In her concert films, such as Homecoming and Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, the opposite applies: wide stadium shots, raised stages and heels combine to make her look far taller than 170 cm.
The 2009 inauguration
Beyoncé's Wikipedia biography records that she performed at events for the 2009 presidential inauguration and sang "At Last" for Barack and Michelle Obama's first inaugural dance. The site lists Michelle Obama at 180.3 cm, about 10 cm taller than Beyoncé, and Barack Obama at 187 cm, almost 17 cm taller. At 180.3 cm, Michelle Obama is well above the 95th percentile for American women (172.5 cm in NHANES), so this was one of the rare public occasions where Beyoncé, even in heels, was not among the taller women in the room.
Where Beyoncé sits among female pop stars
Pop music's biggest female stars cover a surprisingly wide range of heights, from about 155 cm to 180 cm. Sorted by the site's data, Beyoncé falls in the upper middle of the group:
| Artist | Height (site data) | Difference from Beyoncé |
|---|---|---|
| Lady Gaga | 155 cm | −15.2 cm |
| Shakira | 157 cm | −13.2 cm |
| Ariana Grande | 157.5 cm | −12.7 cm |
| Nicki Minaj | 160 cm | −10.2 cm |
| Billie Eilish | 162.6 cm | −7.6 cm |
| Jennifer Lopez | 163.8 cm | −6.4 cm |
| Selena Gomez | 165.1 cm | −5.1 cm |
| Beyoncé | 170.2 cm | — |
| Adele | 172.7 cm | +2.5 cm |
| Dua Lipa | 173 cm | +2.8 cm |
| Rihanna | 173 cm | +2.8 cm |
| Taylor Swift | 180 cm | +9.8 cm |
Two things stand out. First, the spread among these artists, 25 cm from Lady Gaga to Taylor Swift, is wider than the gap between the average man and the average woman in most countries. Second, there is no obvious link between height and success. The shortest and the tallest artists in the table have both sold out stadiums and won the industry's top awards. Height shapes how a performer is styled and filmed, but not whether audiences show up.
How Beyoncé compares with the average American woman
Beyoncé is tall by American standards, and the CDC's measured NHANES data shows by how much. In the 2015–2018 survey, trained staff measured more than 5,500 adult women.
| NHANES 2015–2018 group | Mean | 75th percentile | 85th percentile | 90th percentile |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All women aged 20 and over | 161.3 cm | 166.0 cm | 168.4 cm | 170.2 cm |
| Women aged 30–39 | 162.7 cm | 167.7 cm | 170.1 cm | 171.3 cm |
| Women aged 40–49 | 162.3 cm | 166.6 cm | 169.4 cm | 171.4 cm |
The first row is striking: 170.2 cm is exactly the 90th percentile for all American women aged 20 and over. In other words, nine out of ten American women are shorter than Beyoncé. Among women aged 40 to 49, the group she belongs to today, she sits between the 85th and 90th percentiles, taller than roughly 87 percent of women her age.
NCD-RisC's long-term estimates for the United States tell the same story from a different angle. American women born in 1976 averaged 164.0 cm, and those born in 1996 averaged 163.5 cm, so women of Beyoncé's generation averaged close to 164 cm. She is about 6 cm (2.5 inches) above that. American women gained about 5 cm between the 1896 and 1956 birth cohorts and have changed very little since, a plateau shared by several high-income countries.
Compared with American men, her height is less exceptional. NHANES puts the average American man at 175.3 cm, about 5 cm taller than Beyoncé. Without heels, she would look up slightly at most of the men she stands beside; in her stage heels, she would often be the tallest person in a photo.

170 cm around the world
Beyoncé's tours have taken her to stadiums on every inhabited continent, and how her height compares with her audience depends on where she is. NCD-RisC's estimates for women born in 1996 give a sense of the range:
| Country (NCD-RisC, women born 1996) | Average height | Beyoncé's difference |
|---|---|---|
| India | 152.6 cm | +17.6 cm |
| Japan | 158.3 cm | +11.9 cm |
| Brazil | 160.9 cm | +9.3 cm |
| United Kingdom | 164.4 cm | +5.8 cm |
| Netherlands | 168.7 cm | +1.5 cm |
| Latvia | 169.8 cm | +0.4 cm |
Even in Latvia and the Netherlands, the two countries with the tallest women in the dataset, Beyoncé would be at or slightly above the national average. In India or Japan, she would stand out by more than 10 cm. That is a reminder that "tall" is always relative: at 170 cm, Beyoncé is tall almost everywhere, but she would be typical among young women in the tallest nations of northern Europe.
What 170 cm looks like
At 170.2 cm, Beyoncé is about the same height as Tom Cruise (170 cm) and Mark Zuckerberg (170 cm) in the site's data. She is a few centimeters shorter than Rihanna and Kelly Rowland, and about 10 cm shorter than Taylor Swift and Michelle Obama. She is roughly 15 cm taller than Lady Gaga, which is why she towers over Gaga in "Telephone" whenever Gaga isn't wearing platforms.
