Donald Trump's listed height: 6′3″ in every medical report

Donald Trump is listed on this site at 190.5 cm (6′3″), the height recorded in every published medical report on him since he became a presidential candidate. The most recent, a summary of his annual physical released by the White House on April 13, 2025, and reported by UPI, gave his height as 6′3″ and his weight as 224 lb (about 102 kg). The examination was conducted at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center by White House physician Capt. Sean Barbabella.

The same height appears in earlier reports. A December 2015 letter from his personal physician Harold Bornstein, issued during the presidential primaries, listed 6′3″ and 236 lb. His February 2019 physical, led by White House physician Sean Conley, recorded a weight of 243 lb with a body mass index of 30.4, a figure consistent with a 6′3″ height.

Report Physician Height Weight
December 2015 Harold Bornstein 6′3″ (190.5 cm) 236 lb (107 kg)
February 2019 Sean Conley 6′3″ (implied by BMI 30.4) 243 lb (110 kg)
April 2025 Sean Barbabella 6′3″ (190.5 cm) 224 lb (102 kg)

A note on weight: the April 2025 report's 224 lb is the most recent official figure. Older databases sometimes list a lower value, so the figures in the medical reports should be treated as authoritative; this site uses the 2025 figure.

Some commentators and outlets have questioned whether the 6′3″ listing is precise, and Wikipedia's compilation of presidential heights notes that his figure has been disputed. No independent measurement has been published, however, and the official medical reports have been consistent for a decade. This site therefore uses 190.5 cm, the direct conversion of 6′3″, and notes that, like most heights reported for public figures, it comes from the subject's own physicians rather than an independent measurement. You can convert it precisely with the height converter.

What the reports imply: height, weight and BMI

Because height and weight appear together in Trump's medical reports, they can be used to check each other through body mass index (BMI), which is weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. At 6′3″ (1.905 m), the reported weights translate as follows:

Report Weight BMI at 190.5 cm
December 2015 236 lb (107.0 kg) 29.5
February 2019 243 lb (110.2 kg) 30.4
April 2025 224 lb (101.6 kg) 28.0

The 2019 report's published BMI of 30.4 matches 243 lb only if the height used was 6′3″, and the 2015 letter's BMI of 29.5 likewise matches 236 lb at 6′3″. In other words, the height and weight figures in the reports are internally consistent. BMI is a population screening tool rather than a diagnosis, and it does not distinguish muscle from fat, but the arithmetic is a useful way to confirm that the height in a medical report is the one the physician actually used.

The same calculation shows how sensitive BMI is to height. If Trump were 2.5 cm (1 inch) shorter than listed, his 2025 weight would correspond to a BMI of about 28.7 instead of 28.0. Small differences in reported height therefore change derived measures noticeably, which is one reason medical measurements are taken barefoot with a stadiometer.

Height and the US presidency

Presidential height is a long-running topic in American politics, partly because of a persistent belief that voters prefer the taller candidate. Trump's 6′3″ listing puts him among the tallest men to hold the office.

President Height (site data) Difference vs Trump
Abraham Lincoln 193 cm (6′4″) +2.5 cm
Lyndon B. Johnson 192 cm (6′3½″) +1.5 cm
Donald Trump 190.5 cm (6′3″) —
Bill Clinton 189 cm (6′2½″) −1.5 cm
George Washington 188 cm (6′2″) −2.5 cm
Barack Obama 187 cm (6′1½″) −3.5 cm
Ronald Reagan 185.4 cm (6′1″) −5.1 cm
John F. Kennedy 185 cm (6′1″) −5.5 cm
Joe Biden 183 cm (6′0″) −7.5 cm
George W. Bush 182.5 cm (6′0″) −8 cm
James Madison 163 cm (5′4″) −27.5 cm

Abraham Lincoln is generally regarded as the tallest US president, at about 6′4″, and James Madison as the shortest, at about 5′4″. On the site's data, Trump is the third-tallest president after Lincoln and Lyndon B. Johnson, about 2.5 cm shorter than Lincoln and 27.5 cm taller than Madison.

Does the taller candidate win?

The idea that Americans reliably elect the taller of the two major-party candidates is popular but overstated. Wikipedia's review of the research notes that many studies of the question have methodological problems, and that a 2013 study found taller candidates were more likely to win the popular vote, but that their success in winning the presidency was not significantly different from chance. Trump's own elections illustrate the point: he was the taller candidate in 2016, 2020 and 2024, according to Wikipedia's table, and he won two of those three contests.

Election Trump Opponent Height gap (per Wikipedia) Result
2016 6′3″ Hillary Clinton, 5′5″ 10 in Trump won the Electoral College; Clinton won the popular vote
2020 6′3″ Joe Biden, 6′0″ 3 in Biden won
2024 6′3″ Kamala Harris about 10 in Trump won

The 2016 result is a good example of why the research is mixed: the taller candidate won the presidency, while the shorter candidate won the popular vote.

Trump next to world leaders

Trump's height has made him visibly taller than many world leaders at summits and in official photographs. The table uses the heights on this site.

Leader Height Difference vs Trump
Justin Trudeau (Canada) 188 cm (6′2″) −2.5 cm
Narendra Modi (India) 178 cm (5′10″) −12.5 cm
Emmanuel Macron (France) 173 cm (5′8″) −17.5 cm
Vladimir Putin (Russia) 170 cm (5′7″) −20.5 cm
Kim Jong Un (North Korea) 170.1 cm (5′7″) −20.4 cm
Volodymyr Zelenskyy (Ukraine) 167 cm (5′6″) −23.5 cm

Diplomatic photographs are carefully staged, and height differences between leaders are often reduced by positioning, camera angles and choosing seated rather than standing formats. Even so, a gap of 20 cm or more, as with Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong Un, is clearly visible whenever leaders stand side by side. You can see the exact eye-level offsets with the height difference calculator.

Trump next to his family and business associates

Several members of Trump's family are tall by American standards.

Person Height Difference vs Trump Relationship
Melania Trump 180 cm (5′11″) −10.5 cm Wife, First Lady
Ivanka Trump 180 cm (5′11″) −10.5 cm Daughter, former senior adviser
Ivana Trump 173 cm (5′8″) −17.5 cm First wife
Elon Musk 188 cm (6′2″) −2.5 cm Former adviser, DOGE

Melania Trump, a former fashion model, is listed at 180 cm, and in most public appearances she wears high heels, which typically add 8 to 12 cm. That brings her to roughly Trump's height or slightly above it in photographs, which is why the couple often appear near eye level despite a barefoot difference of about 10 cm. Ivanka Trump is listed at the same 180 cm.

Elon Musk, who led the Department of Government Efficiency initiative in 2025, is listed at 188 cm, only about 2.5 cm shorter than Trump, making him one of the few public figures who appeared at nearly the same height in photographs together.

How Trump compares with American men of his generation

Trump was born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York. According to the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, American men born in 1926 averaged 174.7 cm and those born in 1956 averaged 177.2 cm, so the cohort average for Trump's 1946 birth year is about 176.4 cm (5′9½″). At 190.5 cm, Trump is roughly 14 cm (5.5 inches) taller than the typical American man of his generation. The full trend is on the United States average height page.

The CDC's NHANES survey for 2021–2023 reported that American men aged 70 to 79 averaged 172.4 cm, with a 95th percentile of 184.1 cm. Trump's listed height is about 6 cm above that cutoff. Part of the gap reflects the fact that adults lose height with age as spinal discs compress and posture changes; men in their 70s typically measure a few centimeters shorter than they did in their 30s. Trump's listed height has been the same in reports from his late 60s and his late 70s. You can check other heights against the same data with the height percentile calculator.

Benchmark Height Trump's difference
US men born ~1946 (NCD-RisC) ~176.4 cm +14.1 cm
US men 70–79, mean (NHANES 2021–23) 172.4 cm +18.1 cm
US men 70–79, 95th percentile 184.1 cm +6.4 cm
US men 20+, mean (NHANES 2021–23) 175.1 cm +15.4 cm

What 6′3″ means in everyday terms

A height of 190.5 cm is unusual in any population. Among all American adult men in the 2021–2023 NHANES survey, the 95th percentile was 187.2 cm, so a man of 6′3″ is taller than about 97 out of every 100 American men. Worldwide the share is smaller still: in most countries the average man is between 165 and 180 cm, and only in a handful of northern European populations, such as the Netherlands at 182.5 cm for men born in 1996, does the national average come within 10 cm of Trump's listed height.

In practical terms, 6′3″ is the height at which "big and tall" clothing ranges begin to matter, at which standard airline economy seats become cramped, and at which most people look up noticeably in conversation. A standard US interior door, at 203 cm (6′8″), still clears a 6′3″ man by about 12 cm, but low beams, car door frames and shower heads can become hazards. In politics, a height like this mainly shows up in photographs: at podiums, in receiving lines and in group pictures, a 6′3″ figure is usually the tallest person in the frame unless standing beside athletes or other very tall leaders.

How height changes with age

Trump turned 80 in June 2026, and age is relevant to any discussion of an older person's height. Adults typically reach their maximum height in their twenties and begin to lose height gradually from middle age, with the pace increasing after about 60. The main causes are compression of the discs between the vertebrae, changes in posture and, in some people, loss of bone density. Men commonly lose 2 to 4 cm between their 30s and their 80s.

The CDC's measured data shows this pattern across age groups, although the differences also reflect the fact that older Americans were born when average heights were slightly lower:

Age group (US men, NHANES 2021–23) Mean height
20–29 176.3 cm
40–49 176.4 cm
60–69 174.7 cm
70–79 172.4 cm
80+ 170.5 cm

From the 40s to the 80s, the average falls by about 6 cm. Trump's medical reports have listed the same 6′3″ in 2015, at 69, and in 2025, at 78. That may reflect rounding to the nearest inch, the practice of carrying forward a previously recorded height, or genuinely minimal height loss; the reports do not say how the figure was obtained. For public figures of any age, published heights often remain unchanged for decades even though the people themselves change.

Why presidential heights are hard to verify

Trump's case illustrates a general problem with the heights of public figures. Presidents are measured by their own physicians, and the figures in their published reports are summaries rather than independent measurements. Different physicians may measure with or without shoes, at different times of day, and with different equipment. Most adults are about 1 cm taller in the morning than in the evening, and measuring in shoes can add 2 to 4 cm.

Historical presidents pose even bigger challenges. Lincoln's and Washington's heights come from contemporary accounts, clothing and estimates rather than standardized measurement. Comparing figures across centuries is therefore approximate at best.

For practical comparisons, this site uses the most authoritative published figure for each person: for Trump, the 6′3″ recorded in the White House physician's report. To place him beside other presidents, world leaders or yourself, use the homepage's 3D comparison tool.
