How tall is Bruno Mars?
Bruno Mars is listed on this site at 165.1 cm (5′5″), the height given on his Billboard artist profile and the figure most often repeated in coverage of the singer. In metric terms 5′5″ is exactly 165.1 cm, so the site's value is a direct conversion of the imperial listing. You can check that on the 5′5″ in cm page.
Mars has rarely talked about his height in interviews, and there is no official measured figure beyond the Billboard listing. Unlike athletes, musicians do not appear on rosters, and record labels do not publish measurements. That said, 5′5″ is consistent across mainstream sources, and nothing in reputable reporting suggests a meaningfully different figure. On stage he usually wears dress shoes or Cuban-heeled boots that add 3 to 5 cm, which is worth remembering when comparing him with other performers in photographs.
| Source or context | Height | Notes |

| Billboard (site value) | 165.1 cm (5′5″) | Published listing |

Little Elvis: a performer from age four
Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii, into a family of musicians. According to Wikipedia, his father gave him the nickname "Bruno" because the toddler reminded him of the professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino. From about age four he performed with his family's band, the Love Notes, and he became well known in Hawaii for impersonating Elvis Presley. In 1990, the Honolulu publication MidWeek profiled him as "Little Elvis."
That early start shaped the kind of performer he became. Elvis impersonation is about stage presence: the voice, the hip movements, the outfits and the confidence to own a room. A small child doing it convincingly had to project far beyond his physical size, and the habit of commanding attention through energy and showmanship rather than stature has been central to Mars's act ever since.
After graduating from high school in Honolulu, he moved to Los Angeles in 2003. He signed with Motown in 2004, but the deal went nowhere and he was dropped within a year. He then built his career as a songwriter and producer with the team the Smeezingtons, co-writing Flo Rida's "Right Round" (2009) before breaking through as a featured artist on B.o.B's number-one single "Nothin' on You."
Height and stage presence: why 5′5″ has never held him back
Mars's live performances draw comparisons with the great showmen of soul, funk and pop, many of whom were also of modest height. Using the site's data, Prince is listed at 160 cm, James Brown at 168 cm, and Michael Jackson at 175 cm. Mars's style borrows from all three: tight choreography with his band, the Hooligans, sharp tailoring, and a constant sense of movement.
There are practical reasons that height matters less for a performer like Mars than for an actor or athlete. On a large stage, audiences see a performer mainly through movement and video screens, and coordinated dance routines with a band of similar build create a visual unit rather than drawing attention to one person's height. Mars also plays guitar, drums and keyboards on stage, roles in which height is irrelevant.
The Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show
The clearest example of Mars's stage presence at scale is his headlining halftime performance at Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2, 2014, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. According to Wikipedia's account, the show drew 115.3 million viewers on Fox, surpassing Madonna's 2012 record to become the most-watched halftime show up to that point. Mars opened with a drum solo on a kit dedicated to his late mother, Bernadette Hernandez, then moved through "Locked Out of Heaven," "Treasure" and "Runaway Baby" before the Red Hot Chili Peppers joined him. Two years later, he returned as a guest during Coldplay's Super Bowl 50 halftime show, alongside Beyoncé.
In a stadium of roughly 80,000 people and in front of a television audience of more than 100 million, the height of the performer is essentially invisible. What registers is energy, precision and sound, which is where Mars has built his reputation.

Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga
"Die with a Smile," released on August 16, 2024, paired Mars with Lady Gaga, who at 155 cm is about 10 cm shorter. According to Wikipedia, the song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2025, spent 18 weeks at number one on the Billboard Global 200, and won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. It was also the number-one song on the 2025 Hot 100 year-end chart.
The song's video, co-directed by Mars, shows the two performing on a retro television studio set, with Gaga at the piano and Mars on guitar. Because Gaga is seated for much of the video and Mars stands, the height difference is barely noticeable. In live performances together, Gaga's platform shoes typically close most of the gap. The barefoot gap of about 10 cm is roughly the difference between an average American man and an average American woman.
Bruno Mars and Rosé
Shortly after "Die with a Smile," Mars released "APT." with Rosé of the K-pop group BLACKPINK, which became his second number one on the Billboard Global 200. Rosé is not currently listed in the site's database, so no exact comparison is shown here.
Las Vegas residencies: height up close
Not all of Mars's shows are stadium spectacles. His residencies in Las Vegas, first Bruno Mars at the Chelsea (announced in 2013) and then Bruno Mars at Park MGM, which began in 2016 and continued into 2022, took place in theater-sized venues where the audience is much closer to the stage. In a room of a few thousand people, a performer's real size is far more visible than in a stadium, and that is where his showmanship is most telling. Mars and the Hooligans rely on tight, synchronized choreography, call-and-response with the crowd and constant movement across the stage, so attention stays on the performance rather than on any one person's height.
Smaller venues also make footwear matter more. A few centimeters of heel are visible from the front rows, and Mars's classic Cuban-heeled boots fit the retro styling of the show while adding a modest amount of height.
Silk Sonic
Mars's duo with Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic, released An Evening with Silk Sonic in 2021. Its lead single, "Leave the Door Open," reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and the duo later held a residency at Park MGM in Las Vegas. Silk Sonic's matching suits and synchronized movements are a good example of how coordinated styling makes the performers read as a unit, regardless of individual height.
How Bruno Mars compares with the average American man
According to the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, American men born in the mid-1970s averaged 177.5 cm and those born in the mid-1990s 177.1 cm, so the cohort average for Mars's 1985 birth year is about 177.3 cm (5′10″). At 165.1 cm, Mars is about 12 cm (4.8 inches) shorter than the typical American man of his generation. The United States average height page has the full trend.
The CDC's 2021–2023 NHANES measurements show that for men aged 40 to 49, the mean height was 176.4 cm, the 5th percentile 162.3 cm and the 10th percentile 166.9 cm. Mars's 165.1 cm sits between those two cutoffs, at roughly the 7th or 8th percentile. In everyday terms, more than nine in ten American men his age are taller than him. You can check the same figures with the height percentile calculator.
| Benchmark | Height | Mars's difference |
|---|---|---|
| US men born ~1985 (NCD-RisC) | ~177.3 cm | −12.2 cm |
| US men 40–49, mean (NHANES 2021–23) | 176.4 cm | −11.3 cm |
| US men 40–49, 10th percentile | 166.9 cm | −1.8 cm |
| US men 40–49, 5th percentile | 162.3 cm | +2.8 cm |
| US women 40–49, mean (NHANES 2021–23) | 161.7 cm | +3.4 cm |
That last row is a useful reference: Mars is a few centimeters taller than the average American woman his age, which is why in most duet performances with female artists he appears slightly taller or level, depending on footwear.
Hawaii and Filipino-American heritage
Mars grew up in Honolulu, and his mother was born in the Philippines. Average heights vary considerably between populations. According to NCD-RisC estimates, men born in the Philippines in 1996 averaged about 163.2 cm, almost 2 cm shorter than Mars (see the Philippines average height page). Averages do not determine any individual's height, but the comparison is a reminder that what counts as "short" depends on the reference group. In much of Southeast Asia, Mars would be an average-height or slightly taller-than-average man.
Mars among today's male hitmakers
Mars is one of several of the most commercially successful male artists of the past two decades who stand well under the American average. Using the heights on this site:
| Artist | Height | Difference vs Mars |
|---|---|---|
| Drake | 182.9 cm (6′0″) | +17.8 cm |
| Justin Bieber | 175.3 cm (5′9″) | +10.2 cm |
| Kanye West | 172.7 cm (5′8″) | +7.6 cm |
| DaBaby | 172.7 cm (5′8″) | +7.6 cm |
| Kendrick Lamar | 165.1 cm (5′5″) | 0 cm |
| Bruno Mars | 165.1 cm (5′5″) | — |
| Tory Lanez | 160 cm (5′3″) | −5.1 cm |
Kendrick Lamar, who is listed at exactly the same height, offers an interesting parallel. Both are among the most decorated artists of their generation at the Grammys, and both are celebrated primarily for musicianship and live performance. Mars has won 16 Grammy Awards according to Wikipedia, a total few male pop artists of any height have matched.
The broader pattern in popular music is that height has very little relationship with commercial success. Unlike film, where leading-man casting has sometimes favored taller actors, music audiences respond mainly to voice, songs and performance. A list of the best-selling male artists of any decade includes men across the full range of adult heights.
How a 5′5″ star dresses for the stage
Mars is known for a sharp, retro-inspired wardrobe: tailored suits, short jackets, patterned shirts and slim trousers. Many of those choices are standard advice for shorter men who want a streamlined look, though they are also simply the styles of the 1970s and 1980s soul and funk artists who influence him. Cropped jackets and high-waisted trousers lengthen the leg line, monochrome outfits create an unbroken vertical line, and Cuban or stacked heels add a few centimeters without looking like platform shoes.
His hats, particularly fedoras and pork-pie styles in his early career, add visual height as well. As with a high ponytail or a pompadour, a hat does not change measured height, but it draws the eye upward and makes a performer look taller in photographs and on stage.
What 165 cm means in practical terms
At 165.1 cm, Mars is close to the global average for adult men if you include the populations of South and Southeast Asia, but well below the average in North America and Northern Europe. In US clothing, 5′5″ is at the lower edge of the "regular" fit range, and many men his height buy short-length trousers or have suits tailored.
For a working musician the most important practical considerations are on stage: microphone stands, monitor placement, instrument straps and stage risers can all be adjusted to the performer, so height rarely becomes an obstacle.
