How tall are K-pop idols?
K-pop fans track idol heights with remarkable dedication, and for good reason. Height shapes how a group looks in formation, how choreography lines up and how members appear next to each other in photos. This hub gathers the heights recorded on the site for idols across several of the best-known groups, with each group's average, its tallest member and a link to a full chart or a 3D comparison.
Four groups have their own detailed pages: BTS, IVE, LE SSERAFIM and aespa. Other groups open straight in the 3D height comparison tool with their recorded members loaded, so you can still see them side by side.
The groups at a glance
| Group | Agency | Members recorded | Average | Tallest recorded member |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BTS | Big Hit Music | 6 | 178.2 cm (5′10″) | RM, 181 cm |
| ENHYPEN | Belift Lab | 2 | 179.5 cm (5′10.7″) | Heeseung, 183 cm |
| Stray Kids | JYP Entertainment | 2 | 172.0 cm (5′7.7″) | Bang Chan and Lee Know, 172 cm |
| IVE | Starship Entertainment | 4 | 170.5 cm (5′7″) | Jang Won-young and An Yu-jin, 173 cm |
| LE SSERAFIM | Source Music | 4 | 167.2 cm (5′5.8″) | Huh Yun-jin, 172 cm |
| BLACKPINK | YG Entertainment | 2 | 165.0 cm (5′5″) | Lisa, 168 cm |
| aespa | SM Entertainment | 4 | 164.4 cm (5′4.7″) | Karina, 167.8 cm |
Averages cover only the members currently recorded on the site, so groups with few recorded members should be read as a snapshot rather than a full-group average. The full tallest K-pop idols list ranks 30 idols across groups.
Where idol heights come from
Unlike athletes, whose heights are published on league rosters, K-pop idols have no single official height registry. Heights reach the public through a few channels, each with strengths and weaknesses.
Agency profiles. At debut, agencies often publish a profile with each member's birth date, position and height. These are the closest thing to an official figure, but they are typically set once and rarely revised, even though some members are still in their mid-teens at debut and may grow afterward. Group profiles from the IZ*ONE era, for example, listed members such as Kim Chae-won on an official website that remains a reference for her height today.
Interviews and broadcasts. Idols sometimes state or confirm their heights on variety shows and in interviews. These updates can differ from the debut profile. The fan-run profile site Kprofiles notes that its BTS heights come from the group's official site and Naver profile, and that entries were updated when members later confirmed different figures: Jin at 179.5 cm, V at 178.8 cm and Jungkook at 177 cm. For aespa, the same site says members confirmed their heights in a 1theK interview, and it lists Winter with both an official 165 cm and a lower figure.
Open databases. This site draws most idol heights from Wikidata, the open database behind Wikipedia infoboxes, alongside fan profiles cited for each person. Wikidata is convenient and openly licensed, but its quality varies: Jang Won-young's height statement of 173 cm, for instance, currently carries no attached reference. Where a source is thin, the individual idol page says so.
Why the same idol has different heights online
Put these channels together and discrepancies are inevitable. BTS illustrates it well. The site records Suga at 176 cm and Jungkook at 178 cm, following Wikidata, while Kprofiles lists Suga at 174 cm and Jungkook at 177 cm based on official and member-confirmed figures. A difference of one or two centimeters is small, but in a group where members are separated by only a few centimeters, it can reorder the ranking. That is why each idol page shows the source of its figure and why the site treats these as listed heights, not clinical measurements.
There is also a physical reason for small differences. Everyone is slightly taller in the morning than at night as the spinal discs compress during the day; one study in Clinical Biomechanics measured a trough-to-peak variation of about 1.8 cm over 24 hours. A height measured before an early-morning schedule and one measured after a concert can genuinely differ.
Idol heights in the context of Korea
To judge whether an idol is tall, compare them with their own population. The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, which pooled more than 1,400 population studies with height measurements on over 18.6 million people, estimates that South Korean men born in 1996 average 174.9 cm and women 162.3 cm. Many idols were born within a few years of that cohort, so those figures are a fair yardstick.
| Comparison | Height | Versus average Korean of the 1996 cohort |
|---|---|---|
| Heeseung (ENHYPEN) | 183 cm | +8.1 cm |
| RM (BTS) | 181 cm | +6.1 cm |
| Bang Chan (Stray Kids) | 172 cm | −2.9 cm |
| Jang Won-young (IVE) | 173 cm | +10.7 cm |
| Lisa (BLACKPINK) | 168 cm | +5.7 cm |
| Ningning (aespa) | 161 cm | −1.3 cm |
The pattern is clear. Male idols on the site tend to sit a few centimeters above the Korean average, and the tallest female idols stand out even more, with IVE's tallest members about 11 cm above the average Korean woman of their generation. Several idols, including some members of aespa and LE SSERAFIM, are close to average, which is a useful reminder that the industry does not select only for height.
A century of growth
Korea's averages themselves are a remarkable story. In its 2016 analysis published in eLife, NCD-RisC found that the largest gain in adult height anywhere in the world over the twentieth century occurred in South Korean women, who became 20.2 cm taller between the 1896 and 1996 birth cohorts. The site's country data shows Korean women rising from 142.2 cm to 162.3 cm and men from 159.8 cm to 174.9 cm over that century, reflecting rapid improvements in nutrition, health and living standards. Today's idols belong to the tallest generations Korea has ever produced. The full trend is on the South Korea average height page.
Height differences within groups
Fans often care less about absolute height than about the spread within a group, which affects formations and photo lines.
- BTS is unusually compact. The six members recorded on the site span only 5 cm, from RM at 181 cm to Suga at 176 cm, which is part of why the group looks so even in formation.
- IVE has a wider range among its recorded members, 8 cm, from Jang Won-young and An Yu-jin at 173 cm down to Leeseo at 165 cm. Leeseo is the group's youngest member.
- LE SSERAFIM spans 9 cm among recorded members, from Huh Yun-jin at 172 cm to Sakura Miyawaki at 163 cm.
- aespa spans about 7 cm, from Karina at 167.8 cm to Ningning at 161 cm.
Each group page draws all recorded members to scale so these spreads are visible at a glance.
Debut ages and why heights get revised
Many idols debut in their mid-to-late teens, and that timing explains a lot of the confusion about their heights. A height published on a debut profile is a snapshot of a body that may still be growing, especially for boys. Using the CDC's 2000 growth charts for US children, which are built from large measured samples, the median boy gains about 6 cm between ages 15 and 18 (from 170.1 cm to 176.2 cm), while the median girl gains only about 1.2 cm over the same years (from 161.9 cm to 163.1 cm).
| Age | Median boy (CDC) | Median girl (CDC) |
|---|---|---|
| 13 | 156.4 cm | 157.3 cm |
| 15 | 170.1 cm | 161.9 cm |
| 16 | 173.6 cm | 162.6 cm |
| 18 | 176.2 cm | 163.1 cm |
| 20 | 176.8 cm | 163.3 cm |
The charts describe American children rather than Korean ones, but the shape of the curve, with girls finishing most of their growth earlier than boys, is broadly similar across populations. The practical consequence is that a male idol who debuted at 15 or 16 may be several centimeters taller by his early twenties than his debut profile says, while a female idol's debut figure is more likely to remain accurate. IVE's Leeseo, born in 2007, is the youngest idol in this hub's data, so her listed 165 cm is the figure most likely to be updated in future.

Reading idol photos with care
Because so much fan discussion is based on photos and stage footage, it helps to know how easily images distort height. Members standing closer to the camera look taller, photos taken from a low angle exaggerate height, and stage footwear differs from member to member and from outfit to outfit. Group photos are usually arranged for composition, not measurement. If you want to estimate a height from an image yourself, the height from photo tool explains how to do it with a reference object and why a person standing even half a step closer to the camera can appear several centimeters taller.
K-pop idols beside Western stars
Placing idols next to Western celebrities shows how their heights compare internationally. RM at 181 cm is about 6 cm taller than the average US man, measured at 175.1 cm in the CDC's 2021–2023 NHANES survey. Jang Won-young at 173 cm is nearly 12 cm taller than the average US woman, measured at 161.2 cm in the same survey, and only 2 cm shorter than the average American man. You can add any idol and any Western celebrity to the comparison tool to see the difference directly, or browse the celebrity heights hub for actors, athletes and musicians.
What each group page includes
The four dedicated group pages go further than the cards on this hub. Each one draws every recorded member side by side to scale, lists heights in centimeters and in feet and inches, gives the group average and each member's difference from it, and sets the group against the average US adult of the same sex in its to-scale chart, which is a useful international yardstick next to the Korean averages discussed above. Each member's height carries its own source line, so you can see whether a figure comes from an agency profile, a member's own confirmation in an interview or an open database. The pages also answer the questions fans most often ask about that specific group, such as who is tallest and how members compare with each other, and every member can be sent to the comparison tool with one click. Groups without a dedicated page still have all their recorded members available in the tool and in the cross-group ranking.
How to use this hub
- Browse the group cards above to see each group's average and tallest recorded member.
- Open a group page for a full chart with every recorded member, sources and FAQs.
- Compare in 3D. Groups without a dedicated page open directly in the comparison tool with members loaded. Add yourself by typing your height.
- Check the ranking. The tallest K-pop idols list puts every recorded idol in one table.
New members and groups are added as reliable height sources become available. If an idol's listing changes after a confirmed update in an interview or official profile, the site updates the figure and keeps the source visible on the idol's page.
K-pop height FAQ
Who is the tallest K-pop idol on the site?
ENHYPEN's Heeseung, recorded at 183 cm (6′0″), followed by EXO's Kai at 182 cm and BTS leader RM at 181 cm. Among women, IVE's Jang Won-young and An Yu-jin share the top spot at 173 cm.
Why do K-pop heights differ between websites?
Most idol heights come from agency profiles published at debut, which are rarely updated, and later from interviews or fan compilations. Members sometimes confirm a different height years later. For example, fan profiles list BTS's Jin at 179.5 cm after he confirmed it, while older listings round to 179 cm.
Which K-pop group is the tallest on average?
Among groups on the site, BTS has the highest average, 178.2 cm (5′10″) across the members recorded. For girl groups, IVE averages 170.5 cm across its four recorded members, notably taller than most girl groups.
Are K-pop idols taller than the average Korean?
Many are. NCD-RisC estimates that South Korean men born in 1996 average 174.9 cm and women 162.3 cm. Most male idols on the site are 176 to 183 cm and several female idols are 168 to 173 cm, which is well above those averages.
Do K-pop idols wear lifts or platform shoes on stage?
Stage footwear varies widely by performance and outfit, which is one reason idols can look different heights in different photos. This site does not speculate about any individual; it uses listed barefoot heights where sources state them.
Can I compare myself with my bias?
Yes. Every idol in the catalog can be added to the 3D height comparison tool. Enter your height, add the idol, and the tool shows both figures to scale with the exact difference in centimeters and inches.
