How tall is Yung Gravy?
Yung Gravy is 201.9 cm, or about 6′7½″. The figure sits exactly between the two numbers he gave himself in a 2022 interview: according to SiriusXM's recap of his conversation with the TikTok creator Fibula on TikTok Radio, he confirmed that he is "somewhere between 6′7 and 6′8." The site takes the midpoint, which converts to 201.9 cm.
That makes him one of the tallest working musicians anywhere, and the tallest musician in this site's database. Most famous rappers and pop singers fall well under 6 feet; Gravy is closer in height to an NBA forward than to his peers on festival lineups.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Height used by the site | 201.9 cm (6′7½″) |
| Self-reported range | 6′7″ to 6′8″ (200.7–203.2 cm) |
| Wikipedia figure | 6′8″ (2.03 m) |
| Height in a lyric | 6′6″ (198 cm) |
| Born | March 19, 1996, Rochester, Minnesota |
Where the self-report comes from
The interview behind the 6′7″ to 6′8″ figure took place on SiriusXM's TikTok Radio, and SiriusXM published a recap on July 29, 2022. Gravy was 26 at the time and talking with Connor Wood, the TikTok creator better known as Fibula. Height was one item in a wide-ranging conversation: he also said that he meditates before every show, that having a tour bus changed his life because he can sleep on the road instead of flying, and that his next album was nearly finished and would be the longest he had made. The height comment came in that relaxed setting, which makes it more of a casual confirmation than a formal measurement, but it is still the most direct statement on record from the man himself.
Why there are three different numbers
Gravy's height shows up in three versions, and each has a clear origin. The first is his own self-report of 6′7″ to 6′8″, given in the TikTok Radio interview. The second is Wikipedia's figure of 6 feet 8 inches (2.03 m), which takes the top of that range. The third is the 6′6″ he once rapped. In the same interview he explained that the lyric used 6′6″ simply because it flowed off the tongue better than "6′7." The lyric, in other words, is a rhythmic choice, not a measurement, and it understates his height.
The gap between the site's 201.9 cm and Wikipedia's 203 cm is about 1 cm. Neither number contradicts what he has said himself; they simply take different points within the range he gave.
The conversion math
Because his height is usually quoted in feet and inches, it helps to see exactly how the numbers convert. One inch is defined as exactly 2.54 cm, and one foot as 12 inches.
- 6′7″ is 79 inches, and 79 × 2.54 = 200.66 cm.
- 6′8″ is 80 inches, and 80 × 2.54 = 203.2 cm.
- The midpoint, 79.5 inches, is 79.5 × 2.54 = 201.93 cm, which the site rounds to 201.9 cm.
- The lyric's 6′6″ is 78 inches, or 198.12 cm, about 3.8 cm below the site's figure.
The height converter does the same arithmetic for any height in either direction.
Who is Yung Gravy?
Yung Gravy is the stage name of Matthew Raymond Hauri. He was born in Rochester, Minnesota. His father, Peter Johannes Hauri, was a Swiss-born psychologist who specialized in treating insomnia, and his mother, Cynthia Cleveland Hauri, is a psychiatrist. He graduated from Mayo High School in 2014 and earned a marketing degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in December 2017.
While still in college, Hauri developed branding strategies for start-ups and launched several small companies of his own. Inspired by the rise of SoundCloud artists such as Lil Yachty and Lil Peep, he began uploading music. In 2017 he quit his other work to make music full time. He has said he will always think of himself as a SoundCloud rapper, because that is where he first found an audience while still a student.
After going full time, he spent months recording songs himself before anything caught on, and the early hits arrived through SoundCloud rather than a record label. According to the TikTok Radio interview, his first two songs were made in GarageBand before he moved to Logic.
A sound built on old records
Gravy's style blends trap production with samples from soul and funk records from the 1950s through the 1980s. His breakout "Mr. Clean" samples the Chordettes' 1954 hit "Mr. Sandman," and "Gravy Train" samples Maxine Nightingale's 1976 "Right Back Where We Started From." He has said he likes his music to be described as new Memphis, replacing a more tongue-in-cheek description he used to give. His influences range from Outkast and Three 6 Mafia to Smokey Robinson and the Blackbyrds.
Career highlights
| Year | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 2017 | "Mr. Clean" and "1 Thot 2 Thot Red Thot Blue Thot" take off on SoundCloud; both later certified platinum |
| 2017 | Baby Gravy EP with bbno$ |
| 2020 | Baby Gravy 2 with bbno$ |
| 2021 | "Gravy Train" inscribed on the Tampa Bay Lightning's 2020 Stanley Cup rings |
| 2022 | "Betty (Get Money)" debuts on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 30 |
| 2022 | Thanksgiving pregame show, Vikings vs. Patriots; MTV VMAs pre-show |
| 2023 | Performs at the X Games in Aspen; Baby Gravy 3 with bbno$ |
| 2025 | Voices Golem in the video game Dispatch |
"Betty (Get Money)" was his first Billboard Hot 100 entry. Billboard's video coverage framed the song's chart debut as a Rickroll, a nod to the singer Rick Astley, and Billboard later reported that Astley sued Gravy over the song's use of a soundalike singer. The same year brought national television: he performed "Betty (Get Money)" on Jimmy Kimmel Live and on the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show, where Billboard's red-carpet coverage listed him among the night's notable arrivals alongside Taylor Swift, Lil Nas X and Lizzo.
His most constant collaborator is the Canadian rapper bbno$. The two have released three joint projects under the Baby Gravy name, in 2017, 2020 and 2023, and appear on each other's singles. Gravy has also worked with Lil Baby, Juicy J, T-Pain, Dillon Francis, Lil Wayne and, memorably, Martha Stewart.
Height on stage and in sport
Gravy's height is part of how audiences see him. At 6′7½″, he towers over most of the artists he shares stages with, and the gap is obvious in any collaboration video. His appearances outside music have often been in sporting settings, where tall people are less unusual:
- NFL Thanksgiving. In 2022 he performed the pregame show before the Minnesota Vikings played the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving Day, a homecoming of sorts for a Minnesota native.
- Stanley Cup rings. The Tampa Bay Lightning used "Gravy Train" as one of their post-game victory songs and inscribed its title on their 2020 championship rings, presented in April 2021.
- X Games and Special Olympics. At the 2023 X Games in Aspen, Colorado, he performed and also took part in the Special Olympics Unified Skiing competition, racing against the professional freeskier Tom Wallisch.
A giant on screen too
In 2025 he voiced Golem, a large, sentient construct made of clay, in the video game Dispatch. Casting one of music's tallest performers as a giant clay creature is a neat fit, although in voice work his height has no effect on the character's size.
Yung Gravy compared with other celebrities
Compared with other musicians, Gravy is exceptional. The site's database lists only a handful of musicians above 190 cm, and he leads them:
| Name | Field | Height | Gravy's advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yung Gravy | Rapper | 201.9 cm | — |
| Krist Novoselic | Bassist, Nirvana | 201 cm | +0.9 cm |
| Guy Berryman | Bassist, Coldplay | 199 cm | +2.9 cm |
| Seal | Singer | 192 cm | +9.9 cm |
| Roger Waters | Bassist, Pink Floyd | 190 cm | +11.9 cm |
| Post Malone | Rapper and singer | 184 cm | +17.9 cm |
| Drake | Rapper | 182.9 cm | +19 cm |
| T-Pain | Singer, collaborator | 172.8 cm | +29.1 cm |
T-Pain, one of his collaborators, is listed at 172.8 cm, almost 30 cm (about a foot) shorter.
Next to athletes
The fairest comparison for someone this tall is with basketball players. Using the site's data:
- Stephen Curry, at 188 cm, is about 14 cm shorter.
- Michael Jordan, at 198 cm, is about 4 cm shorter.
- LeBron James, at 206 cm, is about 4 cm taller.
- Kevin Durant, at 210.8 cm, is about 9 cm taller.
In other words, Gravy would fit comfortably in an NBA frontcourt by height alone: taller than Jordan, and only a few centimeters short of LeBron. Load any of these comparisons into the height comparison tool to see them side by side.
Next to comedians and actors
Pete Davidson, one of the tallest comedians on the site at 190.5 cm, is still about 11 cm shorter than Gravy. Kevin Hart, at 158 cm, is about 44 cm shorter, a difference of more than a foot and a half.
How rare is a height of 6′7½″?
Very rare. The CDC's measured national survey for 2015–2018 found that American men aged 20 and over averaged 175.3 cm. The 95th percentile, the height that only one man in twenty exceeds, was 187.4 cm. Gravy is about 14.5 cm above even that threshold. Among men aged 20 to 29, the age group he was in when "Betty (Get Money)" charted, the 95th percentile was 187.1 cm. The CDC tables stop at the 95th percentile, but a height of 201.9 cm is far enough beyond it that only a very small fraction of American men reach it.
The NCD-RisC estimates used on the site's United States average height page put the average American man born in 1996, Gravy's birth year, at 177.1 cm. Gravy is almost 25 cm (nearly 10 inches) taller than the typical man of his generation.
| Group | Height | Gravy's difference |
|---|---|---|
| US men born 1996 (NCD-RisC) | 177.1 cm | +24.8 cm |
| US men 20+, mean (CDC, 2015–2018) | 175.3 cm | +26.6 cm |
| US men 20+, 95th percentile (CDC) | 187.4 cm | +14.5 cm |
| US men 20–29, 95th percentile (CDC) | 187.1 cm | +14.8 cm |

The bottom line on Yung Gravy's height
Yung Gravy's own words are the best evidence: he has said he is between 6′7″ and 6′8″, and he has explained why a lyric says 6′6″. The site uses 201.9 cm, the middle of his self-reported range, which keeps the figure honest without overstating it. Whichever number you prefer, he is taller than Michael Jordan, far above the 95th percentile for American men, and the tallest musician in this site's records. You can find him with other record-holders on the tallest people lists and the celebrities hub.
