How tall is Ben Affleck?
Ben Affleck is 192 cm, or about 6′3½″, the value recorded on Wikidata and used by the site. Like most actors, he has never published a measured height, and reported figures vary. Listings cluster between about 6′2″ and 6′4″, and the 192 cm figure sits near the upper middle of that range. Photographs of him with co-stars of documented height, notably Matt Damon and Henry Cavill, consistently show him as the taller man by a clear margin, which fits a height in the low 190s.
The variation in his listed height is typical of leading men. A few sources round down to 6′2″, possibly from older listings or estimates made from photos; others round up to 6′4″. The middle figure is the most defensible.
| Reported height | Equivalent | Notes |

From Cambridge to Hollywood
Benjamin Géza Affleck-Boldt was born on August 15, 1972, in Berkeley, California. His family moved to Massachusetts when he was three, and he grew up in Cambridge. His mother, Chris Boldt, was an elementary school teacher, and his father, Timothy Affleck, was an aspiring playwright who later worked as an addiction counselor. His younger brother, Casey, is also an Oscar-winning actor.
He started acting as a child, starring in the PBS educational series The Voyage of the Mimi (1984–1988). In Cambridge he befriended Matt Damon, two years older, and the two began writing together. Their screenplay for Good Will Hunting (1997) won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, launching both men's careers.

Argo won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2013, making Affleck one of the few people to have Oscars for both screenwriting and producing. He and Damon later co-founded the production company Artists Equity, which Affleck runs as CEO.
The tallest Batman
Affleck's casting as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) was one of the most debated casting decisions of the 2010s. Fans started online petitions demanding a recast, and some critics argued he would not be intimidating enough. Zack Snyder said he wanted an older Batman, describing him as "war-weary," and the film went on to gross about $874 million worldwide. He is the tallest of the major live-action Batmen, and Zack Snyder's interpretation used that size to create an older, heavier, more brutal Caped Crusader than earlier versions.
| Batman actor | Film(s) | Height (site data) | Difference from Affleck |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ben Affleck | Batman v Superman, Justice League | 192 cm (6′3½″) | — |
| Robert Pattinson | The Batman (2022) | 185 cm (6′1″) | −7 cm |
| Christian Bale | The Dark Knight trilogy | 183 cm (6′0″) | −9 cm |
| George Clooney | Batman & Robin (1997) | 180 cm (5′11″) | −12 cm |
The DC Comics Encyclopedia lists Batman at 6′2″ (188 cm), so Affleck is about 4 cm taller than the comics' own figure. Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson are slightly shorter than the canon height. Affleck added considerable muscle for the role, and the production built a bulkier batsuit inspired by Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, in which an older Batman is a hulking, armored figure.
Batman and Superman reversed
In most comic-book depictions, Superman is slightly taller than Batman: the DC Comics Encyclopedia lists Superman at 6′3″ (190.5 cm) and Batman at 6′2″. In Batman v Superman, the relationship flipped. Henry Cavill, who played Superman, is listed at 185 cm, about 7 cm shorter than Affleck.
| Character | Comics height | Actor | Actor height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Batman | 188 cm (6′2″) | Ben Affleck | 192 cm |
| Superman | 190.5 cm (6′3″) | Henry Cavill | 185 cm |
| Wonder Woman | 182.9 cm (6′0″) | Gal Gadot | 178 cm |
| Aquaman | 185.4 cm (6′1″) | Jason Momoa | 195.6 cm |
Snyder's film did not hide the reversal. When Batman and Superman fight, Batman wears a powered exosuit that makes him even bulkier. In Justice League, the tallest actor on screen was Jason Momoa, whose 195.6 cm made his Aquaman about 10 cm taller than the comics' figure.
Affleck beside co-stars and family

| John Goodman | Argo co-star | 188 cm (6′2″) | −4 cm |
| Henry Cavill | Batman v Superman co-star | 185 cm (6′1″) | −7 cm |

| Matt Damon | Lifelong friend and collaborator | 178 cm (5′10″) | −14 cm |
| Gal Gadot | Batman v Superman, Justice League | 178 cm (5′10″) | −14 cm |
| Liv Tyler | Armageddon co-star | 177 cm (5′9½″) | −15 cm |
| Casey Affleck | Younger brother | 175 cm (5′9″) | −17 cm |
| Rosamund Pike | Gone Girl co-star | 174 cm (5′8½″) | −18 cm |
| Jennifer Garner | Former wife; Daredevil co-star | 171 cm (5′7″) | −21 cm |
| Jennifer Lopez | Former wife; Gigli co-star | 163.8 cm (5′4½″) | −28 cm |
| Anna Kendrick | The Accountant co-star | 157 cm (5′2″) | −35 cm |
The partnership with Matt Damon produces the most familiar comparison: the two have appeared together since their teens, and the 14 cm gap is visible in decades of red-carpet photos. The difference with his brother Casey is larger still, about 17 cm, a reminder of how much adult height can vary between siblings who share the same parents and upbringing.
Jennifer Lopez, whom he married in 2022 after a high-profile engagement two decades earlier, is about 28 cm shorter. Jennifer Garner, his first wife and his co-star in Daredevil (2003), is about 21 cm shorter.
In Air (2023), Affleck directed and played Nike co-founder Phil Knight in the story of how the company signed a young Michael Jordan. Jordan himself, at 198 cm, is 6 cm taller than Affleck; the film deliberately keeps Jordan mostly off screen.

Brothers 17 cm apart: what the research says about sibling height
The height gap between Ben and Casey Affleck surprises many people, but it is not unusual. Brothers share, on average, about half of the genetic variants that differ between people, and adult height depends on thousands of variants, each with a tiny effect. Which combination each child inherits is partly a matter of chance, so siblings can end up well apart even when they grew up in the same house, ate the same food and had the same health care.
Twin research gives a sense of how strongly genes govern height in affluent countries. A large study led by Karri Silventoinen, published in Twin Research in 2003, analyzed more than 30,000 twin pairs from eight countries and estimated the heritability of adult height in men at between 0.87 and 0.93. In plain terms, in well-fed populations like the United States, most of the variation in men's height between individuals reflects genetic differences rather than environment. The same study found that average height still varied considerably between countries, from about 177 cm for men in Italy to 184 cm in the Netherlands, a reminder that population averages are shaped by history, nutrition and health as well as genes.
Heritability describes populations, not families, and it does not predict how two particular brothers will turn out. The Afflecks illustrate the point. With a 17 cm gap, Ben stands roughly in the top 2 percent of American men while Casey is very close to the national median of 175.4 cm. Both are within the normal range; they simply drew different hands from the same genetic deck. If you want to see how a child's predicted adult height is estimated from parents' heights, and why those predictions carry wide margins, the site's height calculator explains the published methods.
Affleck among leading men of his generation
Affleck came up in the late 1990s alongside a group of stars who dominated Hollywood for the next two decades. The heights below are from the site's data.
| Actor | Height | Difference from Affleck |
|---|---|---|
| Hugh Jackman | 190.5 cm (6′3″) | −1.5 cm |
| Will Smith | 188 cm (6′2″) | −4 cm |
| Keanu Reeves | 186 cm (6′1″) | −6 cm |
| Leonardo DiCaprio | 185.4 cm (6′1″) | −6.6 cm |
| Brad Pitt | 180 cm (5′11″) | −12 cm |
| George Clooney | 180 cm (5′11″) | −12 cm |
| Matt Damon | 178 cm (5′10″) | −14 cm |
Affleck is the tallest of this group. Leonardo DiCaprio, whose breakthrough came the same year as Good Will Hunting with Titanic, is about 7 cm shorter, and Brad Pitt about 12 cm shorter. The comparison underlines a point that runs through this page: among Hollywood's biggest stars, height varies widely, and the tallest of them was cast most memorably not as a romantic lead but as an older, battered Batman.
Height and Affleck's screen persona
Affleck's height has shaped the kinds of roles he plays. In his early career, he was cast as the confident, all-American hero in big-budget films like Armageddon and Pearl Harbor, where his size made him a natural leading man. As he matured, his roles shifted toward complicated, morally ambiguous characters, such as the husband under suspicion in Gone Girl, where his height and physical presence could read as either reassuring or menacing.
His Batman was the clearest use of size. Snyder wanted a Batman who looked like he had spent twenty years fighting crime, scarred, heavily muscled and physically imposing, and Affleck's height combined with substantial weight training made that possible. Even critics who disliked the films often praised how convincingly he looked the part.
As a director, Affleck has tended to cast himself in roles where his size matters less. In Argo, he plays a CIA officer who succeeds through planning and nerve rather than physical action; in Air, he plays a businessman. His directorial work suggests he does not rely on his frame as a defining trait.
Compared with the average American man
The CDC's 2015–2018 NHANES survey measured more than 5,000 American men aged 20 and over. Their median height was 175.4 cm and their 95th percentile was 187.4 cm. At 192 cm, Affleck is about 17 cm above the median and more than 4 cm above the 95th percentile, placing him in roughly the top 1 to 2 percent of American men.
The NCD-RisC data on the site's United States page gives a similar picture for his generation. American men born in 1976 averaged 177.5 cm; Affleck, born in 1972, is about 14 to 15 cm taller than the typical man of his age group.
Globally, 192 cm is tall by any measure. The world average for adult men is roughly 171 cm, so Affleck is more than 20 cm above it. Even in the Netherlands, where men are tallest on average at about 182.5 cm for recent cohorts, he would be well above the norm. You can check percentiles for other countries with the height percentile calculator.
