How tall is Nicki Minaj?
The site lists Nicki Minaj at 160 cm (5′3″), the height recorded on her Wikidata entry. It is a common figure in entertainment coverage, but it is not the only one. The Sun's November 2021 feature on the gap between celebrities' "real" heights and their heels gave her real height as 5′2″, about 157 cm, and noted that she has often worn heels of around seven inches.
That one-inch disagreement is typical for musicians, who are never measured in a standardized way. Their heights come from interviews, profiles and estimates, and a difference of 2 to 3 cm can come from rounding, posture, footwear or the time of day; the spine compresses slightly over the course of a day, so most adults measure a little taller in the morning than in the evening. The site keeps 160 cm as its canonical value and notes the 5′2″ figure as a credible alternative.
Why stated heights tend to drift upward
Research on self-reported heights suggests why published celebrity figures often sit at the higher end of the plausible range. In a study of NHANES data from 2001 to 2006, published in Preventing Chronic Disease, Ray Merrill and Jeffrey Richardson compared what more than 8,600 women said about their height with what survey staff measured. On average, women overreported by 0.68 cm, and the bias grew after age 60. A difference of under a centimeter cannot explain the full gap between 5′2″ and 5′3″, but it shows the direction most errors run: people, and the profiles written about them, rarely round down.
For that reason, the honest summary is that Minaj is between about 157 and 160 cm barefoot. The site uses the upper value because it is the one recorded in its reference database, and it flags the lower one so readers can see the range.

From Saint James to Queens
Onika Tanya Maraj was born on December 8, 1982, in Saint James, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. She lived with her grandmother in Trinidad until she was five, when her mother brought her to live in South Jamaica, Queens, in New York City. She auditioned successfully for Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, the specialized arts school, and was cast in an Off-Broadway play a week after graduating.
Her mixtapes from 2007 to 2009 made her a rising star, and her debut album, Pink Friday (2010), opened with the largest first-week sales for a female rap album of the 21st century and topped the Billboard 200. It produced "Super Bass," and later albums brought "Starships," "Anaconda" and "Chun-Li." Her Wikipedia biography describes her as the best-selling female rapper, with more than 100 million records sold, and notes that her Pink Friday 2 World Tour became the highest-grossing tour by a female rapper.
That dual background gives two natural comparisons for her height: Trinidad and Tobago, where she was born, and the United States, where she grew up and built her career.
Heels, wigs and the art of looking taller
Minaj's visual style, especially early in her career, was theatrical: brightly colored wigs, exaggerated costumes and alter egos such as Roman Zolanski. Footwear has been a consistent part of that look. The Sun singled her out in 2021 as one of the stars most likely to use very high heels, citing heels of around seven inches.
Those choices have a real effect on how tall she appears. With a seven-inch heel and a voluminous wig, a 160 cm performer can look 180 cm or more in photos, the height of an average American man.
| Look | Approximate added height | Apparent height |
|---|---|---|
| Barefoot | 0 cm | 160 cm (5′3″) |
| Flat shoes or sneakers | 2–3 cm | about 163 cm (5′4″) |
| Typical stiletto | 8–10 cm | about 169 cm (5′6½″) |
| Heels of about 7 inches (18 cm) | about 18 cm | about 178 cm (5′10″) |
| Plus a tall wig or updo | several more cm to the top of the hair | over 180 cm to the top of the hair |
On tour, the effect is multiplied by staging. Her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, which her Wikipedia biography describes as the highest-grossing tour ever by a female rapper and one of the five highest-grossing hip-hop tours, played arenas where most of the audience sees the performer on large video screens or from a considerable distance. In that setting, a raised stage, lighting and costume define how big an artist looks far more than her height does. The same principle applied to her early alter egos, whose exaggerated wigs and silhouettes made her instantly recognizable from the back of an arena.
That is why photos of Minaj with collaborators can be misleading. In red-carpet images she often appears level with, or taller than, women who are several inches taller barefoot.
Nicki Minaj next to her collaborators
Minaj has collaborated with a huge range of artists, and the height differences among them are wide. The table uses the site's data.
| Artist | Collaboration | Height (site data) | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Doja Cat | "Say So" remix (2020), a Hot 100 number one | 160 cm | Equal |
| Cardi B | Fellow New York rapper | 160 cm | Equal |
| Ariana Grande | "Side to Side," "Bang Bang" | 157.5 cm | Minaj +2.5 cm |
| Beyoncé | "Feeling Myself" (2014) | 170.2 cm | Beyoncé +10.2 cm |
| Megan Thee Stallion | "Hot Girl Summer" (2019) | 177.8 cm | Megan +17.8 cm |
| Drake | Young Money labelmate | 182.9 cm | Drake +22.9 cm |
| Kanye West | "Monster" (2010) | 172.7 cm | West +12.7 cm |
"Say So" with Doja Cat: an exact match
The 2020 remix of Doja Cat's "Say So" gave Minaj her first Billboard Hot 100 number one, and her Wikipedia biography notes it was the first female rap collaboration to top the chart. Doja Cat is listed at 160 cm, exactly the same as Minaj, so the two stars of that record are a perfect height match.
Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé: taller partners
On "Hot Girl Summer," Minaj was paired with Megan Thee Stallion, who at 177.8 cm is about 18 cm (7 inches) taller. On "Feeling Myself," Beyoncé is about 10 cm taller. In both cases, high heels on Minaj's side narrow the visible gap in photos and videos.
Ariana Grande: two small superstars
Ariana Grande, listed at 157.5 cm, is one of the few major collaborators shorter than Minaj, by about 2.5 cm. Their songs together, including "Bang Bang" with Jessie J and "Side to Side," feature two of pop's shortest stars side by side.
Drake and Young Money
Minaj rose to fame on Lil Wayne's Young Money label alongside Drake. The site lists Drake at 182.9 cm, almost 23 cm taller than Minaj, one of the larger gaps between frequent collaborators in hip-hop.
You can compare Minaj with any of these artists at true scale using the height difference calculator.
Female rap stars by height
Minaj's success has often been measured against other women in hip-hop, and it is interesting to see how widely their heights vary. Using the site's data:
| Artist | Height (site data) | Difference from Minaj |
|---|---|---|
| Nicki Minaj | 160 cm | — |
| Cardi B | 160 cm | Equal |
| Doja Cat | 160 cm | Equal |
| Megan Thee Stallion | 177.8 cm | +17.8 cm |
| Iggy Azalea | 182 cm | +22 cm |
Three of the most commercially successful women in rap over the past decade, Minaj, Cardi B and Doja Cat, are all listed at exactly 160 cm. Megan Thee Stallion and Iggy Azalea are close to 18 and 22 cm taller. Whatever role height plays in an artist's image, it clearly isn't a predictor of success in the genre: the best-selling female rapper of all time, according to her Wikipedia biography, is at the shorter end of the group.
On screen and on television
Minaj has appeared in films including The Other Woman (2014), where she shared the screen with Cameron Diaz (175 cm in the site's data) and Kate Upton (178 cm), and Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016). She also served as a judge on the twelfth season of American Idol in 2013. In The Other Woman, the height gap with her co-stars was significant: Upton is about 18 cm taller and Diaz about 15 cm taller, which made Minaj the smallest of the main cast.
How Nicki Minaj compares with women in Trinidad and Tobago and the US
The most surprising comparison may be with her birth country. NCD-RisC's estimates for Trinidad and Tobago put women born in 1976 at 161.3 cm and those born in 1996 at 160.6 cm. At 160 cm, Minaj is almost exactly the average height of a Trinidadian woman of her generation.
| Comparison group | Average height | Minaj's difference |
|---|---|---|
| Women in Trinidad and Tobago, 1976 birth cohort | 161.3 cm | −1.3 cm |
| Women in Trinidad and Tobago, 1996 birth cohort | 160.6 cm | −0.6 cm |
| American women, 1976 birth cohort | 164.0 cm | −4.0 cm |
| American women, 1996 birth cohort | 163.5 cm | −3.5 cm |
| Women in Trinidad and Tobago, 1896 birth cohort | 154.2 cm | +5.8 cm |
NCD-RisC's data for Trinidad and Tobago also shows a large rise over the 20th century: women born in 1896 averaged 154.2 cm, and the average rose by about 7 cm by the 1950s cohorts before leveling off.
Across the Caribbean
Within the Caribbean, average height varies by several centimeters from island to island. NCD-RisC's estimates for women born in 1996 include:
| Country (NCD-RisC, women born 1996) | Average height | Minaj's difference |
|---|---|---|
| Guyana | 157.9 cm | +2.1 cm |
| Cuba | 158.0 cm | +2.0 cm |
| Trinidad and Tobago | 160.6 cm | −0.6 cm |
| Saint Lucia | 162.3 cm | −2.3 cm |
| Jamaica | 163.1 cm | −3.1 cm |
| Grenada | 164.5 cm | −4.5 cm |
| Barbados | 165.3 cm | −5.3 cm |
Minaj would be very slightly taller than average in Guyana or Cuba, almost exactly average at home in Trinidad and Tobago, and around 5 cm shorter than the average young woman in Barbados, Rihanna's home country. That spread, more than 7 cm across neighboring islands, is a reminder of how much national averages can differ even within one region.
In the United States, the CDC's measured NHANES data for 2015–2018 shows where 160 cm falls. Among American women aged 30 to 39, the age group Minaj was in during the survey, the mean was 162.7 cm, the 25th percentile 157.9 cm and the median 162.6 cm. At 160 cm, Minaj sits at roughly the 35th to 40th percentile, a little below the middle of the distribution. In other words, she is slightly shorter than average for an American woman, but far from unusual: more than a third of American women her age are her height or shorter.
| NHANES 2015–2018, women aged 30–39 | Height |
|---|---|
| 15th percentile | 155.5 cm |
| 25th percentile | 157.9 cm |
| Nicki Minaj | 160 cm |
| Median (50th percentile) | 162.6 cm |
| Mean | 162.7 cm |
If The Sun's 5′2″ figure is closer to the truth, she would be at about the 25th percentile instead. Either way, the conclusion is the same: her height is ordinary, and her towering stage image is a product of styling. You can check where any height falls with the height percentile calculator, or explore national averages on the average height hub.
What 160 cm looks like
At 160 cm, Minaj is the same height as Doja Cat, Cardi B and Scarlett Johansson in the site's data, slightly taller than Ariana Grande and Kevin Hart, and about 5 cm taller than Lady Gaga. She is about 10 cm shorter than Beyoncé and about 13 cm shorter than Rihanna.
If you are 160 cm yourself, Minaj is a useful reference point: barefoot, you would stand eye to eye with her, with Cardi B and with Doja Cat, and you would look up about 10 cm to Beyoncé.
