How tall is Doja Cat?
Doja Cat is listed at 160 cm (5′3″) on this site, a figure taken from Billboard's artist profile. That is the most reputable published number for her height. Other sources disagree: Showbiz Cheat Sheet, for example, gives 5′5″ (165 cm), and content-farm pages online list anything from 5′2″ to 5′8″, almost always without a source. Doja Cat has not published an official measurement. The best-supported answer is therefore 5′3″, with the understanding that a celebrity height without a documented measurement can be off by an inch or so.
At 160 cm, she is a little shorter than the average American woman. That makes her physical presence on stage and in fashion all the more striking, because few performers of her generation have used costume, makeup and transformation to change how they look as dramatically as she has.
Weighing the conflicting figures
The spread of numbers for Doja Cat is wider than for most stars, so it is worth looking at how they compare. Billboard's artist profile gives 5′3″ (160 cm). Showbiz Cheat Sheet, writing in January 2021, gave 5′5″ (165 cm) without naming a source. And a cluster of anonymous pages repeat 5′8″ (173 cm), which would make her as tall as Rihanna and Dua Lipa.
The 5′8″ figure is the least plausible. It has no attributed source, no reputable publication has reported it, and it would put her above the 90th percentile for American women. The 5′5″ figure is closer to the middle but equally unsourced. Billboard's 5′3″ comes from the most authoritative music publication of the three, which is why this site uses it.
A five-centimeter disagreement sounds small, but for women it is roughly the difference between the 25th and 50th percentile in the United States. It also matters for comparisons: at 5′3″, she is the same height as Nicki Minaj; at 5′5″, she would be noticeably taller. Until she states a figure herself or a reputable outlet reports one, 160 cm remains the best estimate.
Background: Los Angeles, an ashram and a dance troupe
Doja Cat was born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini on October 21, 1995, in Tarzana, a neighborhood of Los Angeles. Her father, Dumisani Dlamini, is a South African performer best known for playing Crocodile in the original Broadway production and 1992 film of Sarafina!. Her mother, Deborah Sawyer, is a graphic designer, and her maternal grandmother was a painter.
Her childhood was unusual. For about four years she lived at the Sai Anantam Ashram in Agoura Hills, northwest of Los Angeles, where she sang bhajans, Hindu devotional songs. She later took dance classes and joined a poplocking troupe. That dance background shows in her performances, where precise movement and choreography carry much of the visual impact.
She began releasing music online as a teenager, and her stage name became her brand.
That dance training is also part of how she commands a stage. Poplocking emphasizes sharp isolations, freezes and exaggerated shapes, and performers trained in it learn to make every movement readable from the back of a large venue. For an artist of 160 cm, that kind of precise, expansive movement does much of the work that sheer height does for taller performers: it makes her visible and draws attention to her wherever she is on stage. Her 2018 novelty song "Mooo!", in which she wore a cow costume, went viral and set the tone for her career: playful, self-aware and willing to use costume for comedy and spectacle.
From Mooo! to the Met: costume as a career tool
It is easy to trace a line from "Mooo!" to the Met Gala. The 2018 song was a deliberately silly track about being a cow, and the homemade video, with Doja Cat in a cow-print outfit in front of a green screen, spread rapidly online because it was so unexpected. It showed early on that she was willing to make herself look absurd for an idea and that audiences responded to that kind of commitment.
Five years later, the Choupette look at the Met Gala used the same instinct with a couture budget. Instead of a cow costume and a green screen, she wore a beaded Oscar de la Renta gown with facial prosthetics and stayed in character for every interview. In both cases, the costume rather than the person's body became the focus. For a performer of 160 cm, that approach has an extra advantage: it shifts attention from physical measurements to the concept, the craft and the performance.
This is also why her height is so rarely discussed in serious coverage of her work. Reviews and fashion writing focus on transformation and humor, and she has done little to invite comparisons based on size.

| 2023 | Scarlet | "Paint the Town Red" tops the US and UK charts |
| 2025 | Vie | Fifth album, released September 26, 2025 |
The Grammy win
"Kiss Me More", her collaboration with SZA from Planet Her, won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 64th Grammy Awards, held in 2022. According to the Recording Academy, the other nominees were Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and benny blanco, BTS, and Coldplay. It is her only Grammy win so far despite many nominations.
Paint the Town Red
"Paint the Town Red", from Scarlet (2023), became her first solo song to top both the US and UK charts. Scarlet marked a darker, more rap-focused phase, with visual imagery to match, including the red, devilish styling that she had previewed earlier in 2023 at Paris Fashion Week.
Albums as visual worlds
Each of her albums has come with its own visual identity, and that has kept attention on her imagery rather than on her physical size. Planet Her (2021) was built around a science-fiction concept of an imagined planet, with videos to match. Scarlet (2023) leaned into red, dark and horror-tinged imagery, a deliberate break from the bright pop of her earlier hits. Vie (2025), according to her Wikipedia biography, marked a return to pop. The constant reinvention is part of why she is so often described as one of the most visually inventive artists of her generation.
Fashion, transformation and the art of looking bigger
Doja Cat's fashion appearances show how a performer of average or below-average height can dominate a red carpet. Two moments in 2023 stand out.
Schiaparelli in Paris
In January 2023, at Schiaparelli's haute couture show in Paris, she appeared with her body covered in red paint and more than 30,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals. According to Gulf News, the look, called "Doja's Inferno" and partly inspired by Dante's Inferno, was created by makeup artist Pat McGrath over nearly five hours and paired with a strapless red dress, a beaded skirt and knee-high boots. The effect was striking enough that her height was irrelevant; she was the most talked-about person in the room.
The 2023 Met Gala
At the 2023 Met Gala, themed around the designer Karl Lagerfeld, she dressed as Choupette, Lagerfeld's famous cat. Capital XTRA described the look as a figure-hugging silver Oscar de la Renta piece with cat ears, a hood, prosthetics, a silver train and arm cuffs. On the red carpet she answered interviewers by meowing, including when she was asked who made her outfit.
Both looks illustrate something that applies to many shorter performers: costume, silhouette and attitude can create a sense of scale far beyond actual height. Long trains, high hoods, platform shoes and bold color all draw the eye upward and outward. At 160 cm, Doja Cat regularly appears larger than life in photographs because of how she styles herself, not because of her height.

Nicki Minaj and Say So
The remix of "Say So" with Nicki Minaj gave Doja Cat her first Hot 100 No. 1 in 2020. By this site's figures, the two are the same height, so side-by-side photos come down to footwear.
Ariana Grande and Megan Thee Stallion
The 2021 remix of Ariana Grande's "34+35" featured Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion, bringing together three artists with a striking range of heights. Ariana Grande, at 158 cm, is the shortest of the trio, Doja Cat is a little taller at 160 cm, and Megan Thee Stallion stands about 18 cm above Doja Cat at 178 cm. On stage or in a music video, that range is very visible, but the three are all leading artists in their own right.
Pop's height range
The table shows the wide height range among today's female pop and rap stars, from about 158 cm to 180 cm. Doja Cat sits toward the shorter end, alongside Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. That is typical: there is no height expectation for pop stars, and many of the most successful women in music are of average or below-average height.
Compared with the average American woman
The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration estimates that American women born in the mid-1990s, Doja Cat's generation, reached an average adult height of about 163.5 cm (5′4.4″). At 160 cm, she is roughly 3.5 cm (1.4 inches) shorter than average.
| Group | Average height | Doja Cat at 160 cm |
|---|---|---|
| US women born 1996 | 163.5 cm | −3.5 cm |
| South African women born 1996 | 158.0 cm | +2.0 cm |
| US men born 1996 | 177.1 cm | −17.1 cm |
The South African figure is included because of her father's background. South African women born in 1996 average about 158 cm, so by that standard Doja Cat is slightly above average. It is a reminder that "short" and "tall" depend on the reference population. The average height in the United States and South Africa pages have the full cohort data, and the 160 cm to feet page shows other famous people at her height.
How 160 cm compares around the world
Height is always relative to the population around you. NCD-RisC estimates for women born in 1996 show how differently 160 cm reads from country to country:
| Country | Average adult female height | Doja Cat's margin |
|---|---|---|
| Netherlands | 168.7 cm | −8.7 cm |
| Germany | 165.9 cm | −5.9 cm |
| United Kingdom | 164.4 cm | −4.4 cm |
| United States | 163.5 cm | −3.5 cm |
| South Korea | 162.3 cm | −2.3 cm |
| China | 159.7 cm | About average |
| Japan | 158.3 cm | +1.7 cm |
| Mexico | 156.8 cm | +3.2 cm |
| India | 152.6 cm | +7.4 cm |
| Philippines | 149.6 cm | +10.4 cm |
At 160 cm, she would be noticeably short in the Netherlands, almost exactly average in China and comfortably above average in India or the Philippines. The table is a good reminder that phrases like "petite" depend heavily on where you are standing.
Why Doja Cat's height doesn't define her image
Doja Cat's career shows how little height matters for a pop star when presence, humor and visual imagination are strong enough. From a viral cow costume in 2018 to a body covered in 30,000 crystals in 2023 and a full cat transformation at the Met Gala, she has made her appearance a creative medium in its own right. At 160 cm, she is a little shorter than the average American woman, yet she is consistently one of the most visually striking figures in popular music. Her career is a useful counterpoint to the idea that stage presence depends on size: what fills an arena is movement, confidence and a clear visual idea.
