Real people the same height as Satoru Gojo
Satoru Gojo's height: over 190 cm
Satoru Gojo, the special-grade sorcerer who teaches at Tokyo Jujutsu High, has an official height of over 190 cm (6′3″ or more). That wording comes from his character profile in the extras of Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 1, where Gege Akutami described him as probably more than 190 cm tall, and it was carried into the Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook, which Shueisha published on March 4, 2021, and VIZ Media released in English on April 23, 2024. The site records 190 cm as Gojo's height and notes that it is a minimum.
That makes Gojo an unusual case. Most anime databooks give a single exact figure. Akutami chose to leave Gojo's height open at the top, and the vagueness suits a character whose whole persona is about being beyond ordinary limits. He calls himself "the strongest", and the series rarely contradicts him.
At the minimum value, 190 cm is 74.8 inches, which rounds to 6′3″. The site's 190 cm to feet page shows the full conversion. If Gojo is, say, 192 cm, he would be closer to 6′4″, but no official source gives a number above 190.
Where the "over 190 cm" figure comes from
The wording traces back to Gojo's first full profile. According to the Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki's summary of the Volume 1 extras, the profile said he was probably over 190 cm, that his face was regularly shown in the Jump GIGA prequel Jujutsu Kaisen 0, that Principal Yaga had been his teacher, and that he started eating sweets to stimulate his brain and ended up with a sweet tooth. The playful "probably" fits the tone of Akutami's extras, which often read like jokes between author and reader.
The Official Fanbook, which covers the prequel and the main story up to chapter 133, adds more detail without pinning down the height. It lists his enrollment method as family lineage, says he has no hobbies because he can do almost anything, gives his favorite food as sweet things and his least favorite as alcohol, and says his main source of stress is interference from his superiors. It confirms his age as 28 and his birthday as December 7, 1989.
The site treats this as a databook figure via the wiki, citing the Official Fanbook and the volume profiles. Since every official mention uses the same minimum, there is no conflict between sources, only an open upper bound.
Gojo next to his students and colleagues
Gojo towers over almost everyone at Jujutsu High. The table below uses the site's character data, which comes from the volume profiles and the Official Fanbook.
| Character | Role | Height | Difference from Gojo (at 190 cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nobara Kugisaki | First-year student | 160 cm | −30 cm |
| Maki Zenin | Second-year student | 170 cm | −20 cm |
| Toge Inumaki | Second-year student | 170 cm | −20 cm |
| Yuji Itadori | First-year student | 173 cm | −17 cm |
| Megumi Fushiguro | First-year student | 175 cm | −15 cm |
| Yuta Okkotsu | Special-grade student | 180 cm | −10 cm |
| Suguru Geto | Former classmate | over 180 cm | at least −10 cm |
| Kento Nanami | Grade 1 sorcerer | 184 cm | −6 cm |
| Aoi Todo | Kyoto student | 190 cm | 0 (or more) |
| Panda | Second-year student | 190 cm | 0 (or more) |
His first-year class of Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki ranges from 15 cm to 30 cm shorter. When Gojo drapes his arms over his students or crouches to talk to them, the panels make the gap obvious.
Yuta Okkotsu, the protagonist of the prequel and Gojo's distant relative through the historical figure Michizane Sugawara, is listed at 180 cm, 10 cm below his teacher. Kento Nanami, Gojo's junior from their student days, is 184 cm and is the closest of the adult sorcerers in height.
The 190 cm club
Three characters share the 190 cm mark in the site's data: Gojo, Aoi Todo of Kyoto Jujutsu High, and Panda, the cursed corpse who studies alongside Maki and Toge. Todo and Panda have exact 190 cm figures. Gojo's is a floor. On paper, that means Gojo is at least as tall as either of them and possibly taller, but there is no canon line that ranks the three against each other.
How the site handles a minimum height
Because the official figure is a floor, every comparison on the site that involves Gojo is a minimum difference. When the tool says Gojo is 17 cm taller than Yuji, read that as "at least 17 cm". When it shows Gojo level with Todo or Panda, read it as "level or taller". The same rule applies to Geto, whose fanbook figure is also phrased as "over 180 cm". The site displays a note on both characters' pages for this reason, and it uses the round minimum rather than inventing a precise number that no official source supports.
Gojo at different ages
Jujutsu Kaisen shows Gojo at three main stages, but only one height has been published.
| Stage | Age | Where it appears | Official height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Child of the Gojo clan | Young child | Brief flashbacks | None published |
| Jujutsu High student | 16–17 | Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc (chapters 65–79) | None published |
| Teacher at Jujutsu High | 27–28 | Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the main story | Over 190 cm |
The student-era Gojo of the flashback arc is drawn as already very tall, wearing round sunglasses instead of a blindfold, with his hair down. Akutami never gave a separate figure for him at 16 or 17. Japanese voice actor Yuichi Nakamura has said, as summarized on Wikipedia, that playing the teenage Gojo was difficult because the character's quirks and personality differ so much between the two ages. The site's 190 cm figure describes the adult teacher in his late twenties, the version who appears in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and throughout the main series.
That distinction matters if you are comparing Gojo with students. At 16, Gojo was a classmate of Geto and Shoko Ieiri, and he may not yet have reached his adult height. Any comparison between teenage Gojo and the current first-years is an estimate unless both heights come from the same period.
Gojo and Geto: the height gap between the strongest pair
The relationship at the center of Gojo's backstory is with Suguru Geto, his classmate and best friend at Jujutsu High, who later becomes a curse user and the antagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The Official Fanbook, on pages 112 and 113 according to the wiki, lists Geto as over 180 cm. The site records him at 180 cm as a minimum.
Using the minimum values, Gojo is at least 10 cm taller than Suguru Geto. The flashback arc, Hidden Inventory / Premature Death, which MAPPA adapted as the opening of the anime's second season, consistently draws Gojo as the taller of the pair, with Geto's long hair and monk-like presence balancing Gojo's height.
Wikipedia's account of the characters' creation says Akutami chose Geto as Gojo's friend after researching Buddhist robes and noticing that the name of one style, the gojō-kesa or five-stripe robe, matched Gojo's surname. Akutami also matched their given names to their roles: Satoru, meaning "enlightenment", for the natural-born prodigy, and Suguru, meaning "outstanding", for the one who reached that level through effort. Their height gap fits the same contrast. Gojo is drawn as the effortless, larger-than-life figure, and Geto as the slightly smaller, more grounded one.
How Gojo's height fits his design
Akutami designed Gojo as a bishōnen, a beautiful young man, and Wikipedia notes that his face was partly inspired by Tonbo Tobitake, a minor character from Naruto. The key element of his look was a blindfold he can see through thanks to his Six Eyes. Height wasn't the center of the concept, but it strengthens almost every visual beat.
- Tall and lean. The wiki describes him as very tall, lean and muscular. His long legs and narrow frame make the blindfold, sunglasses and white hair the focus of his silhouette.
- Hair adds height. When Gojo wears his blindfold, it pushes his white hair up into spikes, adding visual height on top of his already tall frame. With sunglasses, his hair falls down and he looks slightly shorter on the page.
- Power and scale. His Limitless technique and Infinity barrier make him untouchable in combat. A very tall, relaxed figure who never seems to be hit reinforces his "strongest" title.
Director Sunghoo Park, who led the anime's first season and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, has said that adapting Gojo's first Domain Expansion was one of the most demanding scenes of the season, and that he consulted Akutami on its coloring. The anime draws Gojo at the same scale as the manga, and MAPPA has not issued an anime-specific height.
What 190 cm means in the real world
Even at his minimum height, Gojo would be exceptionally tall in Japan. The site uses NCD-RisC estimates of adult height by birth cohort, from the collaboration's 2016 eLife study covering 200 countries.
| Population, birth cohort | Average man | Gojo's minimum difference |
|---|---|---|
| Japan, 1956 | 169.3 cm | +20.7 cm |
| Japan, 1996 | 170.8 cm | +19.2 cm |
| United States, 1996 | 177.1 cm | +12.9 cm |
| Netherlands, 1996 | 182.5 cm | +7.5 cm |
Gojo was born in 1989, so the closest cohorts are the late twentieth century. Against the average height in Japan for men born in 1996, he is at least 19 cm taller. Even in the Netherlands, home of the tallest men in the NCD-RisC data at 182.5 cm, he would be at least 7.5 cm above average.
For comparison with real people, the site lists several public figures at or near 190 cm, including actor Hugh Jackman (190.5 cm). A Gojo cosplayer at that height would match his canon figure. You can test any pairing in the height difference calculator.
Gojo's popularity and the height question
Gojo is the series' breakout character, according to Wikipedia. On the Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki's record of the official popularity polls, he placed third in the first poll, second in the second, third in the third, and first in the fourth with 113,392 votes. He is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura in Japanese and Kaiji Tang in English, with Mariya Ise voicing him as a child.
His popularity explains why his height is searched so often, and why the "over 190 cm" wording causes confusion. Some fan sites list him at 190 cm flat, others at 6′3″, and a few guess higher numbers. The only canon statement is the minimum. If you see a precise figure above 190 cm attributed to Gojo, it is a fan estimate, not something Akutami or Shueisha published.
A few trivia notes round out the picture. The wiki records that Gojo was a Digimon fan in high school, and that Akutami credited his theme music as songs by Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Avicii. None of that changes his height, but it is part of why the character reads as a playful, oversized presence rather than a distant one.
