Real people the same height as Yuta Okkotsu

Yuta Okkotsu's official height: "almost 180 cm"

Yuta Okkotsu's height comes with a qualifier. The Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook, the 2021 guide in which creator Gege Akutami filled in profile details for the cast, gives his height as almost 180 cm (just under 5′11″), on pages 112–113 according to the Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki's citation. It's one of several heights in the series given as a range rather than a precise figure: Gojo is "over 190", Toge Inumaki is "almost 170", Panda is "over 190".

This site rounds Yuta to 180 cm for its charts and comparison tool, with a note that he is actually slightly below that mark. Throughout this article, "180 cm" should be read as "a little under 180 cm". The difference is probably a centimeter or two, too small to see in a drawing but enough that he shouldn't be listed as taller than characters officially given 180 or more.

Akutami's habit of using "almost" and "over" is worth taking seriously. It suggests the profiles are meant as impressions of how a character reads on the page rather than as measurements, and it leaves room for the art to vary from panel to panel. For Yuta, the fanbook's phrasing captures something about him: tall, but not someone who carries his height with any swagger.

Yuta's profile in brief

No weight is published for Yuta, and the fanbook doesn't give a separate height for his first-year self in the prequel. In Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the 2017 prequel serialized in Jump GIGA and adapted as the 2021 film, he is a year younger, and some fans assume he was shorter then. Nothing official says so, but a 16-year-old Japanese boy can still be adding a few centimeters a year, so it's plausible that the first-year Yuta stood a little shorter than the second-year.

How posture made the first-year Yuta look smaller

Even without a second height figure, the series shows Yuta's size changing through body language. The Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki describes the first-year Yuta's posture as very unconfident, with dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep. He was bullied, isolated and frightened of the cursed spirit of Rika Orimoto, the childhood friend whose curse followed him, and the art shows it: shoulders forward, head down, eyes avoiding contact.

By the main story he looks different. His hair is longer and more relaxed, he moves with confidence, and he walks into the Culling Game and the Shinjuku fight as one of the strongest sorcerers alive. A slouch can take several centimeters off how tall a person looks, and Akutami uses that. The same almost-180 cm frame reads as timid in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and commanding by the end of the series.

The fanbook also mentions that Yuta's original hair design was changed because he looked too similar to Megumi. That says something about how close the two were meant to look in build. Megumi is officially 175 cm, and early on Akutami evidently needed something other than silhouette to tell them apart.

Yuta versus the Jujutsu Kaisen cast

Using the site's Jujutsu Kaisen data, here is where Yuta stands among the students and teachers he works with. Heights marked "min" are officially "over" a figure; Yuta and Inumaki are "almost" figures.

Character Height (cm) Height (ft/in) vs Yuta
Satoru Gojo 190 (min) 6′3″+ about 10 cm or more taller
Aoi Todo 190 (min) 6′3″+ about 10 cm or more taller
Panda 190 (min) 6′3″+ about 10 cm or more taller
Kento Nanami 184 6′0″ about 4 to 5 cm taller
Suguru Geto 180 (min) 5′11″+ slightly taller
Yuta Okkotsu almost 180 just under 5′11″ —
Megumi Fushiguro 175 5′9″ about 4 cm shorter
Yuji Itadori 173 5′8″ about 6 cm shorter
Maki Zenin 170 5′7″ about 9 cm shorter
Toge Inumaki almost 170 just under 5′7″ about 10 cm shorter
Nobara Kugisaki 160 5′3″ about 19 cm shorter

A few patterns stand out:

  • Among students, Yuta is the tallest human. Only Panda, a cursed corpse built by Principal Yaga, and Kyoto's Aoi Todo outrank him among the students. In his own second-year class with Maki, Toge and Panda, he's well above both human classmates.
  • He sits just below Geto. The two are almost level, which is a quietly fitting detail given that Geto was the antagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Their duel at the end of the prequel is a fight between near-equals in size.
  • Gojo still towers over him. Even as a special grade with comparable power, Yuta looks up at his teacher. Gojo's "over 190" figure puts at least 10 cm between them.

Classmates and relatives: Maki, Toge, Panda and the Gojo line

Yuta's second-year class is one of the series' most memorable height line-ups. When he transferred to Tokyo Jujutsu High in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, his classmates were Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki and Panda, and the four of them make an almost perfect staircase:

  • Panda, over 190 cm, at the top.
  • Yuta, almost 180 cm.
  • Maki, 170 cm, the one who drilled Yuta in swordsmanship and physical conditioning during the prequel.
  • Toge, almost 170 cm, a whisker below Maki.

Maki's role is the interesting one. She was the classmate who pushed the new transfer hardest in training, and she did it while giving away close to 10 cm in height. Their sparring scenes show a shorter, far more experienced fighter outclassing a taller beginner, which is exactly how real martial arts work when skill gaps are large. By the main story, Yuta's sword work owes a lot to those sessions.

The prequel also reveals that Yuta is a distant relative of Satoru Gojo, both descended from the Heian-era figure Sugawara no Michizane, according to the Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki. Later in the series, Takako Uro suggests a Fujiwara connection instead, and Gojo muses that both could be true. Either way, the family tie doesn't extend to height: Gojo is over 190 cm and Yuta almost 180, a gap of more than ten centimeters between two of the strongest sorcerers alive. Height in real families varies widely too, since it depends on many genes plus childhood nutrition and health, so distant cousins rarely match.

Yuta and Gojo: a height question with a twist (spoilers)

Spoiler warning for the Shinjuku Showdown arc of the manga.

Because Yuta and Gojo are so often compared, one late plot development gives this height question an unusual twist. In the Shinjuku battle, after Gojo's death, Yuta copies Kenjaku's brain-transplant technique and temporarily takes over Gojo's body to continue the fight against Sukuna. The Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki notes that afterward Yuta has a stitched scar circling his head, the sign of the transfer.

For the length of that fight, then, Yuta is effectively over 190 cm tall, operating a body more than ten centimeters taller than his own. It's one of the rare times a shonen character's height changes for plot reasons rather than growth or a timeskip, and it's a moment readers tend to remember. After the transfer ends, Yuta returns to his own body and his almost-180 cm frame.

The spin-off Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, set decades later, shows Yuta as an elderly man, listed by the wiki at age 79. No height is given for that version. It's common for people to lose a few centimeters in old age, but the series hasn't said anything about it.

Yuta and Rika: size in the story

Size matters in Yuta's story in another way: the cursed spirit Rika. In the prequel, the curse of Rika Orimoto is enormous, a hulking figure that dwarfs Yuta and appears behind him when he is threatened. Later, the Rika that stays with Yuta serves as storage for his copied techniques and cursed tools and can be summoned for limited periods.

The visual contrast between Yuta and Rika is deliberate. A thin, nervous boy who stands just under 180 cm is attached to a curse many times his size, and much of Jujutsu Kaisen 0's tension comes from that mismatch. As Yuta grows in confidence and control, the relationship changes: he is no longer overshadowed by the curse but working with it.

What almost 180 cm means for a Japanese teenager

Yuta is Japanese, born in 2001, so the natural real-world comparison is with Japanese men of his generation. The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration's estimates, shown on this site's Japan average height page, give Japanese men born in 1996 an average adult height of about 170.8 cm (5′7″). At almost 180 cm, Yuta is roughly 9 cm above average for his cohort.

In everyday terms, that puts him in the tall minority:

  • In a Japanese high school class, a boy just under 180 cm would usually be among the tallest few.
  • Compared with an average American man of the same generation, about 177.1 cm in the same dataset, he is only a couple of centimeters taller.
  • Against the tallest averages in the world, such as Dutch men at about 182.5 cm, he would be slightly below average.

So Yuta's height is notable in Japan and unremarkable in northern Europe. You can see how many people share his height on the 180 cm page, with the caveat that he sits just below that line.

Why the "almost" matters on a comparison site

For most characters, the difference between 179 and 180 cm would be trivia. For Yuta it affects a few comparisons fans actually make:

  • Yuta vs Geto: Geto is "over 180", Yuta is "almost 180". Rounded to 180 each, they look tied, but canon puts Geto slightly ahead.
  • Yuta vs Sanji or other 180 cm characters from other series: a crossover chart listing them as equal is fine to within a centimeter or two, but strictly Yuta is a hair shorter.
  • Yuta vs Megumi: the 4 to 5 cm gap is real, regardless of the "almost".

When you use the height comparison tool to line Yuta up with other characters, the figure shows him at 180 cm. Keep the fanbook's wording in mind if the result is within a centimeter.
