Real people the same height as Kento Nanami
Kento Nanami's official height: 184 cm
Kento Nanami, the grade 1 sorcerer who mentors Yuji Itadori in Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen, is listed at 184 cm (6′0″). The number comes from the character profile printed in Volume 3 of the manga, the volume that introduces him properly as he and Yuji investigate the cursed spirit Mahito. Converted precisely, 184 cm is 72.4 inches, or 6 feet 0.4 inches. In practical terms, Nanami is a six-footer.
The figure has not been revised. The Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook, published by Shueisha on March 4, 2021, added birthdays, preferences and background details for much of the cast, but it did not change Nanami's height. MAPPA's anime adaptation, which covered his story in Season 1 and in the 2023 "Shibuya Incident" episodes of Season 2, also uses the manga's proportions. So whether you know Nanami from the page or the screen, 184 cm is the canonical value.

A tall adult in a series of teenagers
Nanami's height makes most sense when you look at who he spends his time with. Jujutsu Kaisen is mainly about high school students at Tokyo and Kyoto Jujutsu High, and Nanami is one of the few working adults in the core cast. He is older, calmer and taller than the first-years he supervises, and his design leans into that: a neat suit, a patterned tie, a pair of tinted goggle-style glasses and a blade wrapped in cloth that he carries like a briefcase.
The contrast is deliberate. According to the English Wikipedia character list, Nanami was the first character Akutami properly created and developed, and he later became the author's favorite. A tall, composed adult who treats exorcism as a job with fixed hours is exactly the counterweight a story full of impulsive teenagers needs.
Kento Nanami next to the Jujutsu Kaisen cast
The table below uses the heights this site records for Jujutsu Kaisen characters, taken from the volume profiles and the Official Fanbook. Several characters are listed with qualifiers such as "over" or "almost," and those are noted.
| Character | Height | Difference vs Nanami | Relationship |
|---|---|---|---|
| Satoru Gojo | over 190 cm | +6 cm or more | Senior at Jujutsu High |
| Aoi Todo | over 190 cm | +6 cm or more | Kyoto student |
| Panda | over 190 cm | +6 cm or more | Tokyo second-year |
| Kento Nanami | 184 cm (6′0″) | — | Grade 1 sorcerer |
| Suguru Geto | over 180 cm | about −4 cm | Senior, later curse user |
| Yuta Okkotsu | almost 180 cm | about −4 cm | Special grade student |
| Megumi Fushiguro | 175 cm (5′9″) | −9 cm | Tokyo first-year |
| Yuji Itadori | 173 cm (5′8″) | −11 cm | His mentee |
| Maki Zenin | 170 cm (5′7″) | −14 cm | Tokyo second-year; fought alongside him in Shibuya |
| Nobara Kugisaki | 160 cm (5′3″) | −24 cm | Tokyo first-year |
Nanami and Gojo
Satoru Gojo is listed at over 190 cm, so he stands at least 6 cm above Nanami. The two were schoolmates at Tokyo Jujutsu High, with Gojo and Suguru Geto a year ahead of Nanami and his classmate Yu Haibara. Nanami openly dislikes Gojo's attitude while trusting his strength, and their few scenes together pair two tall men with opposite personalities: Gojo loose and theatrical, Nanami rigid and precise. On a height chart they are close enough that Gojo's upswept white hair accounts for much of the visible gap.
Nanami and Yuji
The heart of Nanami's story is his relationship with Yuji Itadori, who is listed at 173 cm. The 11 cm gap is roughly the difference between an average Japanese man and a tall one, and it shapes how their scenes are composed. Nanami is often drawn looking down at Yuji while explaining a rule of sorcery or a professional boundary. Over the course of the Mahito arc, the Wikipedia character list notes, Nanami comes to value Yuji's growth, and the visual relationship of a tall adult looking out for a shorter teenager mirrors that mentorship.
Nanami and Megumi, Maki and Nobara
Megumi Fushiguro at 175 cm, Maki Zenin at 170 cm and Nobara Kugisaki at 160 cm all fall well below Nanami. During the Shibuya Incident, Nanami fights the cursed spirit Dagon alongside Naobito Zenin and Maki, and at 184 cm next to Maki's 170 cm he is the taller of the two sorcerers by 14 cm.
Nanami in the popularity polls
Height is only one reason fans keep comparing Nanami with the rest of the cast. According to the Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki's summary of the official Weekly Shōnen Jump popularity polls, he placed 5th in the first poll with 11,644 votes, 5th again in the second with 5,548, 7th in the third and 8th in the fourth. For an adult supporting character who dies partway through the story, that is a durable showing, and it explains why "Is Nanami taller than Gojo?" is one of the most common height questions about the series.
| Poll | Nanami's rank | Votes |
|---|---|---|
| First | 5th | 11,644 |
| Second | 5th | 5,548 |
| Third | 7th | 2,541 |
| Fourth | 8th | 4,162 |
In percentage terms, Nanami is about 6% taller than Yuji and 15% taller than Nobara, and Gojo is at least 3% taller than Nanami. Those are modest ratios, but in the same panel they are enough for Nanami to read as the adult in the room even next to a muscular teenager like Yuji.
Height, history and Nanami's past
Nanami's backstory is told in the "Hidden Inventory" flashback arc, which the anime adapted in Season 2 episodes 1 to 5. As a student, his only close classmate was Yu Haibara, who was killed on a mission in 2007. That loss pushed Nanami out of jujutsu altogether. He took a regular corporate job, and only later returned to sorcery, concluding that being a sorcerer was no worse than being a company man.
Height has no role in that story, but it does shape how the flashback reads visually. In 2006 and 2007, Nanami is a teenager in a school uniform standing beside a taller Gojo and Geto. By 2018 he has the same height as an adult, but his suit, posture and weariness make him read as a different person. The fixed 184 cm figure is a reminder that what changed between the two eras was not his size but his bearing.
Ratio, Overtime and why his power does not depend on size
Nanami's cursed technique, the Ratio Technique (Tōkaku Juhō), divides any target into a 7:3 ratio and forces a weak point at the dividing line. It works on living and non-living things, so it scales to whatever he is fighting rather than to his own body. A target twice his height simply has a weak point twice as far from the end.
His second defining trait is a Binding Vow he calls Overtime: by limiting how long he works each day, his power grows when he keeps fighting past normal hours. The Wikipedia character list describes the vow as boosting his strength when he works beyond his set hours. Like the Ratio Technique, it has nothing to do with physical size. What makes Nanami dangerous is discipline, precision and the willingness to keep going, which is part of what makes his design so effective: he looks like a tall, tidy office worker, not a monster-slayer.
Even after his death in the Shibuya Incident, his weapon remains in the story. The character list notes that Takuma Ino later wields Nanami's blade, still imbued with the Ratio Technique, against Sukuna in the Shinjuku Showdown.
Spoiler note: Shibuya and Nanami's last appearance
Nanami dies during the Shibuya Incident. After suffering severe burns from the cursed spirit Jogo, he is killed by Mahito in front of Yuji. The moment is one of the most discussed in the series and was adapted in the anime's second season in late 2023. Because he dies at 27, the 184 cm figure from Volume 3 is the only height we will ever have for him as an adult; there is no later timeskip to update it.
What 184 cm means in Japan and beyond
Nanami was born in 1990, so the fairest comparison is with Japanese men of his generation. This site's Japan average height page, built from NCD Risk Factor Collaboration data, puts Japanese men born in 1976 at about 171.4 cm and those born in 1996 at about 170.8 cm. At 184 cm, Nanami stands roughly 13 cm above the national average for his cohort. Japan's Ministry of Education measures students every year, and its fiscal 2025 School Health Statistics Survey puts the average 17-year-old boy at 170.6 cm, so even among young men who have nearly finished growing, Nanami would be among the tallest in a class.
Globally, Our World in Data's summary of the same research puts the average man born in 1996 at about 171 cm, so Nanami is well above the worldwide mean too.
The Volume 3 character profile states that Nanami's maternal grandfather is Danish, which makes him a quarter Danish. Denmark is one of the tallest countries in this site's data: the Denmark average height page lists Danish men born in 1996 at about 181.4 cm. A man with one Danish grandparent is not guaranteed to be tall, because height depends on many inherited variants and on childhood conditions, but Nanami's 184 cm would be unremarkable in Copenhagen and notable in Tokyo.
Real people near Nanami's height
On this site's data, Harry Styles and Chris Evans are both listed at 183 cm, a centimeter shorter than Nanami, and Cristiano Ronaldo is listed at 185 cm, a centimeter taller. You can place Nanami beside any of them, or beside Gojo and Yuji, in the height comparison tool, where his 6′0″ frame sits between the two.
Why Nanami's height is part of his appeal
Nanami consistently ranks among the most popular adults in Jujutsu Kaisen, and much of his appeal is the gap between his ordinary-looking life and his extraordinary job. His height helps sell both halves. At 184 cm in a pressed suit he looks like a senior employee who could walk into any meeting, and he looks like someone who could end a fight with a single precise strike. The Jujutsu Kaisen character hub lists the rest of the cast if you want to see where he sits among Tokyo Jujutsu High's teachers and students.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nanami taller than Gojo?
No. Satoru Gojo is listed at over 190 cm, so he stands at least 6 cm above Nanami's 184 cm. Nanami is still one of the tallest adults in the series, but Gojo, Aoi Todo and Panda are all taller.
Is Nanami taller than Yuji?
Yes, by 11 cm. Yuji Itadori is listed at 173 cm in the Volume 1 profile, while Nanami's Volume 3 profile gives 184 cm. In their scenes together Nanami's head is roughly level with the top of Yuji's hair plus a hand's width.
Where does Nanami's 184 cm height come from?
It comes from the character profile printed in Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 3, the volume that introduces him as Yuji's mentor during the Mahito investigation. No later book has changed the number.
How old is Nanami?
Nanami is 27 in his Volume 3 profile, and the Official Fanbook gives his birthday as July 3, 1990. He was Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto's junior at Tokyo Jujutsu High, and he spent several years working at a company before returning to jujutsu.
Is 184 cm tall in Japan?

What does Nanami's height have to do with his technique?
Nothing directly. His Ratio Technique divides any target into a 7:3 ratio and creates a weak point at that line, so it scales to the target rather than to his own size. His height matters mostly to his visual design as a calm, imposing adult among teenage students.
