Real people the same height as Yuji Itadori
Yuji Itadori's official height: 173 cm from the Volume 1 profile
Yuji Itadori, the protagonist of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen, is listed at 173 cm (5′8″). The number comes from the character notes printed in the first collected volume of the manga, the book VIZ Media released in English on December 3, 2019. The Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki cites page 60 of that volume for both his height and his weight, which makes it one of the earliest pieces of hard data published about any character in the series.
Those same notes add two details that matter for anyone comparing his size. First, Yuji weighs 80 kg (about 176 lb), and Akutami specifies that his body fat percentage is in the single digits. Second, according to Akutami, Yuji is still growing. The 173 cm figure is therefore a snapshot of a 15-year-old, not a promise about his adult height. No later volume, fanbook entry or anime guide has replaced it with a new number, so 173 cm is still the canonical value and the one this site uses.

Manga versus anime
The MAPPA anime has never published a different height for Yuji, and nothing in the adaptation contradicts the manga profile. What does change between the two versions is his coloring: the wiki notes that his hair reads as brownish blonde in the manga's color art but pink in the anime. Hair color has no effect on a height chart, but his hairstyle does. Yuji wears a short undercut with modest spikes, so his silhouette adds very little above his skull. Characters with tall hair, like his classmate Megumi, can look taller than their real numbers suggest when they stand next to him.
A medium height carrying a heavyweight frame
Yuji's profile numbers tell an unusual story when you put them together. At 173 cm and 80 kg, his body mass index works out to roughly 26.7. For an ordinary teenager that figure would suggest extra weight, but BMI cannot tell muscle from fat, and Akutami's note about single-digit body fat makes the explanation clear: Yuji is dense with muscle. His build is the reason sports clubs at his high school keep trying to recruit him, a detail VIZ uses in its own description of the first volume.
The manga backs that up with feats rather than size. In Chapter 1 he finishes a 50-meter run in about three seconds, which works out to an average speed of around 60 km/h (37 mph). Later in the series, his hand-to-hand fighting, his use of Black Flash (a strike that lands cursed energy within a millionth of a second of physical impact) and his eventual control of Sukuna's techniques all play out at a height that is completely ordinary. The point of the character design is that Yuji does not look like the strongest person in the room. He looks like a normal kid in a hoodie, and the hoodie, the profile adds, is something he wears mostly because he is indecisive about clothes.
That contrast is part of the series' visual language. Several of the people who shape Yuji's story are much larger than he is: his teacher Satoru Gojo, his self-declared best friend Aoi Todo, his mentor Kento Nanami. Yuji is the compact center of a cast full of tall adults.
Yuji Itadori next to the Jujutsu Kaisen cast
The table below uses the heights recorded on this site, which come from the volume profiles and the Official Fanbook. Some characters are listed with qualifiers such as "over" or "almost," and those are noted.
| Character | Height | Difference vs Yuji | Relationship |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aoi Todo | over 190 cm (6′3″+) | +17 cm or more | Self-declared "best friend" |
| Satoru Gojo | over 190 cm (6′3″+) | +17 cm or more | Teacher |
| Panda | over 190 cm | +17 cm or more | Second-year classmate |
| Kento Nanami | 184 cm (6′0″) | +11 cm | Mentor |
| Suguru Geto | over 180 cm | +7 cm or more | Gojo's former classmate |
| Yuta Okkotsu | almost 180 cm | about +6 cm | Senior and ally |
| Megumi Fushiguro | 175 cm (5′9″) | +2 cm | First-year classmate |
| Yuji Itadori | 173 cm (5′8″) | — | Protagonist |
| Maki Zenin | 170 cm (5′7″) | −3 cm | Second-year classmate |
| Toge Inumaki | almost 170 cm | about −3 cm | Second-year classmate |
| Nobara Kugisaki | 160 cm (5′3″) | −13 cm | First-year classmate |
Three things stand out. First, among Tokyo Jujutsu High's first-years, Yuji sits in the middle: 2 cm under Megumi and 13 cm over Nobara. Second, the people he trains under are all taller than him by at least a hand's width. Third, the biggest gap in his closest relationships is with Todo, which is played for comedy every time the two appear together.
Yuji and Todo: the "brothers" who do not match
Todo's Volume 5 profile describes him as over 190 cm, and the wiki notes that he is the tallest student at Kyoto Jujutsu High and about the same height as Gojo. Next to Yuji, that is a minimum gap of 17 cm, close to the length of an adult head. When Todo imagines a shared school history with Yuji and calls him his brother, the joke works partly because the two look nothing alike in size. The Official Fanbook even says that if the two had attended the same ordinary junior high, they would probably have found something in common, a nice touch given that they would have been the shortest and tallest boys in any class photo.
Yuji and Megumi: almost level
With Megumi at 175 cm, the two first-years are close enough that panel composition and posture often decide which of them looks taller. Megumi's upswept hair adds visible height, while Yuji tends to be drawn mid-movement, crouching or lunging. If you want an honest picture of their difference, put them side by side in the height comparison tool, where both figures stand straight and the 2 cm gap becomes visible.
Height and age: why 173 cm might not be the final number
Akutami's comment that Yuji will keep growing fits real biology. Yuji is 15 when the story begins, and the annual School Health Statistics Survey run by Japan's Ministry of Education (MEXT) shows Japanese boys still gaining height through the late teens. In the fiscal 2025 survey, published in February 2026, the average 15-year-old boy measured 168.6 cm, the average 16-year-old 169.9 cm and the average 17-year-old 170.6 cm.
| Age (MEXT FY2025) | Average Japanese boy | Yuji at 173 cm |
|---|---|---|
| 15 | 168.6 cm | +4.4 cm |
| 16 | 169.9 cm | +3.1 cm |
| 17 | 170.6 cm | +2.4 cm |
By those numbers, Yuji is a little taller than the typical Japanese boy his age, though not dramatically so. If he followed the average growth curve from 15 to 17, he would add about 2 cm, landing near 175 cm, which would put him level with Megumi. That is speculation built on population averages, not canon, and the manga never gives a revised figure.
What about Modulo?
The spin-off Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is set decades after the main story, and the wiki lists Yuji there as 83 years old. Because of his nature as a Cursed Womb: Death Painting, he has not visibly aged; the wiki describes his appearance as essentially unchanged apart from longer, softer hair. No height is given for this version of him, so this site continues to use the 173 cm profile figure.
What 173 cm means in the real world
Converted, 173 cm is 68.1 inches, or just over 5′8″. You can see the full conversion and other people at that exact mark on the 173 cm page.
For a Japanese man, that height is slightly above average. The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, the international research group whose estimates this site uses for national averages, puts Japanese men born in 1996 at about 170.8 cm as adults. Yuji is roughly 2 cm above that, firmly inside the normal range. You can explore the full trend on the average height in Japan page, which shows how Japanese men gained height across the 20th century before leveling off.
| Comparison | Height | Difference vs Yuji |
|---|---|---|
| Average Japanese man (NCD-RisC, 1996 cohort) | 170.8 cm | Yuji +2.2 cm |
| Average US man (NCD-RisC, 1996 cohort) | 177.1 cm | Yuji −4.1 cm |
| Tom Holland | 173 cm | Same height |
| Jennifer Lawrence | 175 cm | Yuji −2 cm |
Two of those real-world names have a fun link to the character. Tom Holland, at 173 cm on this site, is exactly Yuji's height, so a Holland-versus-Itadori comparison shows two identical figures. And Jennifer Lawrence is the actress Yuji names when Todo asks about his taste in women: in Chapter 35 he says he likes tall girls, giving Lawrence as his example, and the Official Fanbook adds that he first noticed her in Silver Linings Playbook. At 175 cm, Lawrence is 2 cm taller than Yuji, so his answer is at least consistent with his own preference.
How Yuji's size fits the story's design
Akutami has not written an essay about Yuji's height, but the published notes give a clear picture of the intent. The character is built to be relatable: a TV-raised kid who is not picky about food, does his homework the night before it is due and, according to the fanbook, would probably have become a firefighter if he had never met a curse. A 173 cm frame supports that ordinariness. His strength comes from a body packed with muscle and, later, from techniques he learns or inherits, not from imposing size.
The design also makes his opponents and allies read more clearly. Sukuna, when he takes control of Yuji's body, gains facial markings and a second pair of eyes but no extra height, so the menace has to come from expression and posture. When Sukuna's true four-armed form appears late in the manga, the wiki describes it as a tall, muscular man, a deliberate contrast with the ordinary teenager who carried him for most of the story. And the towering figures around Yuji, from Todo to Gojo, keep reminding readers that the protagonist is the smallest of the heavy hitters.
Comparing Yuji Itadori yourself
If you want to put Yuji next to someone specific, the height difference calculator gives the exact gap in centimeters and inches between any two heights, and the main tool lets you line him up with characters from other series and real people. A few comparisons worth trying:
- Yuji vs Todo: at least a 17 cm gap, and the clearest way to see why their scenes look the way they do.
- Yuji vs Megumi: a 2 cm difference that hair and posture usually hide.
- Yuji vs Nobara: 13 cm, the largest gap inside the first-year trio.
- Yuji vs Tom Holland: an exact match at 173 cm.
Spoiler note: this article mentions the existence of Sukuna's true form and the Modulo setting, but avoids plot details beyond what is needed to explain Yuji's listed height and how it is presented.
Frequently asked questions
Will Yuji Itadori get taller?
Possibly. The Volume 1 character notes that list him at 173 cm also say, according to creator Gege Akutami, that he is still growing. No later official profile has given an updated number, so 173 cm remains his only canon height.
How much does Yuji Itadori weigh?
His Volume 1 profile lists him at 80 kg (about 176 lb), and adds that his body fat percentage is in the single digits. That is heavy for 173 cm, which reflects how much muscle he carries rather than fat.
Is Yuji taller than Megumi?
No. Megumi Fushiguro is listed at 175 cm in the same Volume 1 profile pages, so he is 2 cm taller than Yuji. On screen the gap is small enough that Megumi's spiky hair makes it look bigger than it is.
How much taller is Todo than Yuji?
Aoi Todo's Volume 5 profile says he is over 190 cm, so he stands at least 17 cm above Yuji's 173 cm. That is roughly the height of a head, which is why their team-ups look so lopsided.
Is Yuji Itadori the same height as Tom Holland?
On the numbers used by this site, yes. Tom Holland is listed at 173 cm, exactly Yuji's profile height, so a side-by-side comparison of the two shows no difference at all.
How old is Yuji Itadori?
The Official Fanbook gives his age as 15 at the start of the story, with a birthday of March 20. His 173 cm height was published in that same first stretch of the series.
How tall is Yuji Itadori in feet?
Yuji Itadori is 5′8″ tall – that is 173 cm or 68.1 inches.
Is Yuji Itadori taller than average?
Yuji Itadori is 2.2 cm taller than the average Japanese man (170.8 cm, NCD-RisC estimate for adults born in 1996).
Where does Yuji Itadori rank among Jujutsu Kaisen characters?
