Nezuko Kamado's height: 153 cm (5′0″)

Nezuko Kamado is listed at 153 cm (5′0″) and 45 kg (99 lb) in the Kimetsu no Yaiba Wiki's character profile, and that's the figure this site uses. Like most Demon Slayer heights, it circulates with the stats in Koyoharu Gotouge's official guidebooks, the Demon Slaying Corps Memorandum fanbooks of 2019 and 2021, but the wiki's infobox doesn't give a page citation, so the site labels it a fan-wiki figure. No official source we found contradicts it.

Nezuko is an unusual case for a height site, though, because she's one of the few characters whose size changes on purpose. As a demon, she can shrink to fit inside a wooden box or grow into a larger form. The 153 cm figure describes her at her normal, everyday size, the one she has when standing next to Tanjiro outside the box.

The box: how Nezuko shrinks

For most of the series, Nezuko travels in a wooden box strapped to Tanjiro's back. The box protects her from sunlight, which would kill a demon, and lets Tanjiro carry her wherever his missions take him. A 153 cm girl obviously can't fit in a backpack-sized box at her normal size, and the series handles that with a demon ability the wiki calls Size Alteration.

According to the wiki, after being turned into a demon Nezuko showed the ability to change her body's size and height. She can shrink to the physical size of a small child to fit inside a box or a basket, and she can also enlarge herself into a much bigger form. The anime turns the shrinking into a running visual gag: Nezuko pops out of the box at child size, then stretches back to her full height in a few frames.

The series doesn't give a number for her shrunken height. Judging by the box, which Tanjiro carries comfortably on his back, it's well under a meter. That makes Nezuko the rare character on this site whose height ranges from toddler-sized to adult, depending on what the scene needs.

Nezuko's advanced form

The other end of the scale shows up in the Entertainment District arc. During the fight with Upper Rank Six Daki, Nezuko awakens an advanced demon form. The wiki describes her body as becoming bigger and more curvaceous, with her clothes tearing as she outgrows them: the sleeves of her kimono and one sleeve of her haori rip, and she loses her bamboo muzzle and one of her sandals. A horn grows on her forehead, and vine-like markings spread across her skin.

No official height is published for this form. In the art and anime she appears noticeably taller and more mature, closer to an adult woman's proportions than a 14-year-old's. Because the change is temporary and unmeasured, the site keeps 153 cm as her listed height. If you're comparing "awakened Nezuko" with another character, assume she's somewhat taller than 153 cm, but there's no canon figure to quote.

After she conquers the sun and regains her ability to speak, Nezuko returns to her normal appearance, without the muzzle and with cat-like pupils, and to her normal size.

Nezuko versus Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer cast

At her standard height, here is how Nezuko compares with the characters she spends the series alongside, using the site's Demon Slayer data:

Character Height (cm) vs Nezuko Relationship
Muzan Kibutsuji 179 +26 cm The demon who turned her
Giyu Tomioka 176 +23 cm Spared her life; gave her the bamboo muzzle
Tanjiro Kamado 165 +12 cm Older brother
Zenitsu Agatsuma 164.5 +11.5 cm Devoted admirer
Inosuke Hashibira 164 +11 cm Traveling companion
Kanao Tsuyuri 156 +3 cm Friend; Tanjiro's love interest
Nezuko Kamado 153 — —
Shinobu Kocho 151 −2 cm Insect Hashira
Tamayo 150 −3 cm Sympathetic demon doctor

A few patterns:

  • The Kamado siblings are 12 cm apart. Tanjiro, at 165 cm, is the obvious protective older brother in every scene, and Gotouge often frames Nezuko tucked against his side or peeking out from behind him.
  • The boys of the trio are all about 11 to 12 cm taller. Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke are within a centimeter of each other (164 to 165 cm), so Nezuko is roughly the same distance below each of them.
  • Among the women, she's near the bottom. Only Shinobu (151 cm) and Tamayo (150 cm) are shorter among the main female characters. Kanao, at 156 cm, is just 3 cm taller.

The Giyu comparison is a quiet but important one. At 176 cm, the Water Hashira is 23 cm taller than Nezuko, and in chapter 1, when he decides to spare her, he towers over both siblings. After the final battle, according to the wiki's fanbook trivia, Nezuko repaired his damaged haori, and Giyu was so moved he sent her gifts, which made Zenitsu worry he had a rival.

Nezuko among the demons

Nezuko is also a demon, and comparing her with the other demons in the site's data shows how widely Gotouge varied their sizes:

Demon Height (cm) vs Nezuko
Kokushibo (Upper Rank One) 190 +37 cm
Doma (Upper Rank Two) 187 +34 cm
Muzan Kibutsuji 179 +26 cm
Akaza (Upper Rank Three) 173 +20 cm
Enmu (Lower Rank One) 168 +15 cm
Yushiro 157 +4 cm
Nezuko Kamado 153 —
Tamayo 150 −3 cm
Rui (Lower Rank Five) 135 −18 cm

The Twelve Kizuki at the top of Muzan's hierarchy are mostly tall, imposing figures, with the Upper Ranks all well above Nezuko. The demons closest to her in size are Tamayo and Yushiro, the two who rejected Muzan and help the Kamado siblings, and Rui, the child-like Lower Rank of the Natagumo Mountain arc, who is the only demon in the table shorter than her.

There's arguably a thematic logic to it, though Gotouge hasn't said so. The demons who stay loyal to Muzan tend to be drawn large and threatening, while the ones who side with humans, Tamayo, Yushiro and Nezuko herself, are small and human-scaled. Nezuko's ability to grow into a bigger form when she fights shows she can match the threatening ones when she needs to, but her everyday size marks her as one of the gentle demons.

How Nezuko's design affects how tall she looks

Several elements of Nezuko's design change how her 153 cm frame reads on screen. The wiki describes her long black hair reaching just below her waist and fading to flame orange at the tips, a pink asanoha-patterned kimono, a dark brown haori that falls to her calves, and zōri sandals with white tabi socks. Long hair and long outer layers emphasize vertical lines, which tends to make a small figure look a little taller than she is.

The bamboo muzzle arguably works the other way. It's a strong horizontal line across the lower face, and combined with her wide eyes it makes her look younger and more childlike, matching her physical age of 12. Gotouge's design balances the two impressions: a girl who is small and young, but carries herself with the presence of someone older.

Nezuko's age and why she's listed as 12

The wiki lists Nezuko as 12 physically and 14 chronologically. She was turned into a demon at 12, when Muzan attacked the Kamado family home on Mount Kumotori, and two years then pass while Tanjiro trains under Sakonji Urokodaki. Demons in the series don't age the way humans do, so her body stays at the age she was turned, even as the calendar moves on.

That makes her 153 cm height worth a second look. A 12-year-old Japanese girl today would typically still be growing, and many reach their adult height a few years later. Nezuko's growth was effectively frozen when she became a demon, so 153 cm may be shorter than she would have ended up as a human adult. The series doesn't say whether she grows again after becoming human at the end of the story, and there's no official height for an adult Nezuko.

What 153 cm meant in the Taisho era

Demon Slayer is set in the Taisho era (1912–1926). Nezuko, at 12 in the opening chapters, would have been born a little after 1900. The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration's reconstruction of historical heights, used on this site's Japan average height page, gives Japanese women born in 1896 an average adult height of about 142.3 cm (4′8″), rising to about 149.9 cm for those born in 1926.

Against that background, 153 cm wasn't small at all. A 12-year-old girl at 153 cm in Taisho Japan would already have been taller than the average grown woman of her generation, by roughly 11 cm. The modern comparison is very different:

Cohort (Japanese women) Average adult height Nezuko's difference
Born 1896 142.3 cm +10.7 cm
Born 1926 149.9 cm +3.1 cm
Born 1956 156.5 cm −3.5 cm
Born 1996 158.3 cm −5.3 cm

Japan's average adult height rose dramatically over the twentieth century as diet and public health improved. Gotouge drew the Demon Slayer cast to modern proportions, as manga generally does, so the characters look normal to today's readers. By the standards of their own time, almost all of them would have been tall.

Nezuko and her voice actress

The wiki includes a small piece of trivia: Nezuko and her Japanese voice actress, Akari Kitō, share the same height, 5′0″. The first character of Kitō's surname, 鬼, means "demon", which fans have long found fitting. In English, Nezuko is voiced by Abby Trott. Nezuko has very little dialogue for most of the series because of the bamboo muzzle, so her performances rely on sound and movement, and the size-shifting adds another physical dimension to the role.

What 153 cm means today

For a modern reader:

  • 153 cm converts to 5′0¼″, effectively the same as the site's 5′0″ page, which covers how common that height is for adult women in the U.S. and worldwide.
  • It's about 5 cm below the average for Japanese women born in the 1990s (158.3 cm) and about 10 cm below the U.S. average for the same generation (163.5 cm).
  • For a 12- or 14-year-old girl, it's a fairly typical height today. For a grown woman, it's on the shorter side.
