Real people the same height as Zenitsu Agatsuma
Zenitsu Agatsuma's official height: 164.5 cm
Zenitsu Agatsuma, the cowardly, loud and secretly brilliant Thunder Breathing swordsman of Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, is listed at 164.5 cm (5′5″). It is the height given in his official character profile, as recorded by the Kimetsu no Yaiba Wiki, and it belongs to the profile data Shueisha published for the main cast in the first official fanbook, Kimetsu no Yaiba Official Fanbook: Kisatsutai Kenbunroku (Demon Slaying Corps Memorandum), released on July 4, 2019, which the wiki describes as revealing detailed profiles of the main characters. Converted precisely, 164.5 cm is 64.8 inches, or 5 feet 4.8 inches, which rounds to 5′5″.
The half centimeter is part of the listed figure, not a conversion artifact; the same profile gives his weight as 58 kg. It also has a practical effect: it places him exactly between his two closest companions, Tanjiro and Inosuke, in a trio separated by just one centimeter.

The trio separated by one centimeter
Zenitsu, Tanjiro Kamado and Inosuke Hashibira travel together from early in the story through the final battle, and their heights are almost identical.
| Character | Height | Age | Difference vs Zenitsu |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tanjiro Kamado | 165 cm | 15 | +0.5 cm |
| Zenitsu Agatsuma | 164.5 cm | 16 | — |
| Inosuke Hashibira | 164 cm | 15 | −0.5 cm |
Tanjiro is half a centimeter taller and Inosuke half a centimeter shorter. In practice that means the three boys are drawn at the same height, and what separates them visually is hair and silhouette: Tanjiro's dark red hair and checkered haori, Zenitsu's bright yellow hair cut to an even line and his triangle-patterned haori, and Inosuke's boar head, which adds visible height on top of his 164 cm.
Zenitsu is also the oldest of the three. The Japanese Wikipedia entry on the Demon Slayer Corps lists him at 16, while Tanjiro and Inosuke are 15. Despite being the senior in age, he is the one who most often panics, cries and begs to be protected, which is part of the joke of the character.
Zenitsu and Tanjiro
Tanjiro Kamado, at 165 cm, is the trio's leader and Zenitsu's first friend in the Corps. Their first meeting comes after Final Selection, when Tanjiro finds Zenitsu begging a stranger to marry him, and from then on Tanjiro is the steady one. With half a centimeter between them, any panel where one looks taller is a matter of posture.
Zenitsu and Inosuke
Inosuke Hashibira is listed at 164 cm. The two are opposites, Zenitsu fearful and Inosuke reckless, and their bickering is a constant thread. In height they are nearly twins, but Inosuke's boar head makes him look like the tallest of the three in most group shots.
Zenitsu next to Nezuko and the rest of the cast
Zenitsu's devotion to Nezuko Kamado is one of his defining traits. Nezuko is listed at 153 cm in her normal form, so Zenitsu stands 11.5 cm taller. Nezuko can change size with her demon abilities, shrinking to a child's height to ride in Tanjiro's box, so the comparison only holds for her standard form.
The table below compares Zenitsu with other Demon Slayer characters using the heights recorded on this site.
| Character | Height | Difference vs Zenitsu |
|---|---|---|
| Gyomei Himejima | 220 cm | +55.5 cm |
| Tengen Uzui | 198 cm | +33.5 cm |
| Muzan Kibutsuji | 179 cm | +14.5 cm |

| Giyu Tomioka | 176 cm | +11.5 cm |
| Kaigaku | 167 cm | +2.5 cm |
| Mitsuri Kanroji | 167 cm | +2.5 cm |

| Inosuke Hashibira | 164 cm | −0.5 cm |

| Nezuko Kamado | 153 cm | −11.5 cm |
| Shinobu Kocho | 151 cm | −13.5 cm |
Zenitsu and Tengen Uzui
In the Entertainment District arc, Zenitsu goes undercover alongside Tanjiro and Inosuke on the orders of the Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui. Tengen is listed at 198 cm, 33.5 cm taller than Zenitsu, the biggest gap among the people he works with closely. The arc plays the three boys, disguised as girls, against a towering, flamboyant Hashira, and their small stature is part of the comedy.
Zenitsu and Kaigaku
The most important height comparison in Zenitsu's story is with Kaigaku, his senior under their shared teacher Jigoro Kuwajima. Kaigaku is listed at 167 cm, 2.5 cm taller. The English Wikipedia character list notes that Zenitsu mastered only the first form of Thunder Breathing, while Kaigaku learned the other five. Kaigaku later becomes a demon and joins the Twelve Kizuki, and in the Infinity Castle Zenitsu defeats him with a seventh form he created himself. That duel is adapted in Infinity Castle, the 2025 film that became the highest-grossing Japanese film, with $820.4 million worldwide according to Wikipedia. Two swordsmen almost the same size, trained by the same man, end up on opposite sides.
Manga, anime and the fanbook figure
Gotouge serialized Demon Slayer in Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020, and the story was collected in 23 volumes. The first official fanbook arrived in July 2019, partway through the run, with detailed profiles of the main characters. A second fanbook followed in February 2021, after the manga ended; it is the source the Kimetsu no Yaiba Wiki cites for the heights of demons such as Kaigaku, Akaza and Muzan. Neither book changed Zenitsu's 164.5 cm.
Ufotable's anime, which began airing in April 2019, follows the manga's proportions closely. The studio draws the trio at a matching height, and when the three stand in a row, the eye goes to Inosuke's boar head first, Zenitsu's yellow hair second and Tanjiro's earrings third. In the manga, Zenitsu's hair turned from black to yellow after he was struck by lightning while training, according to both the Japanese Wikipedia entry (citing chapter 33) and the Kimetsu no Yaiba Wiki. Bright, flat-cut hair does not add much height, so Zenitsu tends to look like the smallest of the three even though, on paper, he sits in the middle.
That optical effect is worth remembering when you read fan height charts. Many charts measure characters to the top of their hair or headgear, which pushes Inosuke up and leaves Zenitsu looking shorter than his canon number. The official figure is a body height, so the fair comparison puts all three within a single centimeter.
Zenitsu and the Hashira
The Hashira who appear around Zenitsu are mostly much taller. Kyojuro Rengoku, who fights alongside him on the Mugen Train, is listed at 177 cm, 12.5 cm above Zenitsu. Giyu Tomioka is 176 cm, Sanemi Shinazugawa 179 cm and Gyomei Himejima 220 cm. Only three Hashira are shorter than Zenitsu: Obanai Iguro at 162 cm, Muichiro Tokito at 160 cm and Shinobu Kocho at 151 cm. Mitsuri Kanroji, at 167 cm, is just 2.5 cm taller, the same margin as Kaigaku. When Zenitsu joins the Hashira Training arc, he spends weeks being drilled by people who mostly look down on him, literally as well as figuratively, which suits a story about an anxious teenager finding his courage.
Speed over size: why Zenitsu's height doesn't matter in a fight
Zenitsu's fighting style is built on speed, not reach. He uses the First Form of Thunder Breathing, Thunderclap and Flash, a lightning-fast drawing strike, and the English Wikipedia list notes that he perfected that single form to an exceptional degree. Famously, he often fights best while unconscious: when fear knocks him out, his trained body takes over and he cuts down demons he would never face awake.
His other key trait is hearing. The Japanese Wikipedia entry describes his hearing as acute enough to detect demons and read people's emotions, though it also notes he sometimes hears what he wants to hear. Neither ability has anything to do with how tall he is. In Mugen Train, the 2020 film that broke Japan's box office record, Zenitsu sleepwalks through a train full of Enmu's flesh, protecting passengers alongside Rengoku and Nezuko, and his height is irrelevant to every strike.
Gotouge's design makes the point visually. Zenitsu is drawn as slight and twitchy, average-sized for his group, and the series repeatedly shows him moving faster than any character on screen. A small swordsman who wins in a single flash is the core of the character.
Height in the Taishō era
Demon Slayer is set in the Taishō era (1912 to 1926), which changes what Zenitsu's height means. People in early 20th-century Japan were much shorter than today. Data from the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, used on this site's Japan average height page, puts Japanese men born in 1896 at about 156.2 cm and those born in 1926 at about 161.9 cm.
As a 16-year-old in the 1910s, Zenitsu belongs to a generation born around the turn of the century, so the 1896 cohort is the closer comparison. At 164.5 cm, he would have stood roughly 8 cm above the average adult Japanese man of his generation. Our World in Data notes that men and women worldwide gained about 8 to 9 cm in average height over the following century, and the site's Japan data shows a gain of roughly 15 cm between the 1896 and 1996 cohorts. In other words, the Zenitsu who looks average-sized to a modern viewer was, by the standards of his own era, a tall young man.
| Comparison group | Average height | Zenitsu's difference |
|---|---|---|
| Japanese men born in 1896 (NCD-RisC) | 156.2 cm | +8.3 cm |
| Japanese men born in 1926 (NCD-RisC) | 161.9 cm | +2.6 cm |
| Japanese men born in 1996 (NCD-RisC) | 170.8 cm | −6.3 cm |
| Japanese 16-year-old boys, 2025 (MEXT) | 169.9 cm | −5.4 cm |
What 164.5 cm means today
By modern standards, Zenitsu is short for his age. Japan's Ministry of Education measured the average 16-year-old boy at 169.9 cm in its fiscal 2025 School Health Statistics Survey, so a present-day Zenitsu would be about 5 cm below his classmates. Against the global figure, Our World in Data puts the average man born in 1996 at about 171 cm.
Real people near Zenitsu's height on this site include:
- Daniel Radcliffe, listed at 165 cm, half a centimeter taller.
- Bruno Mars and Selena Gomez, both listed at 165.1 cm.
- Diego Maradona, listed at 165 cm.
Voice actors and where to compare
Zenitsu is voiced by Hiro Shimono in Japanese and Aleks Le in English. Shimono's high-pitched screaming has become inseparable from the character, but neither voice actor's height has any bearing on the canon figure.
