Real people the same height as Mitsuri Kanroji
Mitsuri Kanroji's official height: 167 cm
Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira of Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, is listed at 167 cm (5′6″). It is the height in her official character profile as recorded by the Kimetsu no Yaiba Wiki, which gives her weight as 56 kg; Shueisha's first fanbook, Kisatsutai Kenbunroku, released on July 4, 2019, published detailed profiles of the main characters. Converted precisely, 167 cm is 65.7 inches, or 5 feet 5.7 inches, which rounds to 5′6″.
That makes Mitsuri the tallest woman among the Demon Slayer characters tracked on this site, and taller than several of the series' male leads. By the standards of her own time, she would have been remarkably tall, and her story turns partly on how unusual her body is.

A body eight times denser than normal
Mitsuri's defining physical trait is not her height but her muscles. The Japanese Wikipedia entry on the Demon Slayer Corps states that she has muscle with eight times the density of an ordinary person's, owing to a special constitution. That explains how a 167 cm, slender-looking young woman can stand among the strongest fighters in the Corps.
The series uses this to separate size from strength. Mitsuri does not look like a powerhouse. Gotouge draws her with a soft, curvy figure, long pink-and-green braided hair and an open-chested Hashira uniform, and she is often flustered or blushing. Yet she can swing a sword that bends like a whip at enormous speed, and she fights on equal terms with demons much larger than herself. Her height is ordinary for a modern woman; her strength is not.
Height, strength and Mitsuri's backstory
Mitsuri's past, revealed in the Swordsmith Village arc, explains why her body matters to the story. As the Japanese Wikipedia entry summarizes chapters 123 and 124, she was unusually strong and had an enormous appetite. To make herself marriageable she pretended to be weak, dyed her hair black and held back her eating, but she wanted to be useful while staying true to herself, and joined the Demon Slayer Corps; her stated reason for joining is to find a man to spend her life with. The same entry, citing the first fanbook, explains her pink-and-green hair as the result of eating too much of her favorite sakura mochi.
Height adds to that picture. In the Taishō era, women in Japan were much shorter than today (see the historical figures below), so a 167 cm woman would have been very noticeable. The story's emphasis is on her strength and appetite rather than her height, but the numbers suggest that Mitsuri would have stood out physically in almost any room she entered in 1910s Japan.
Mitsuri and Obanai: the taller partner
The most famous height comparison involving Mitsuri is with Obanai Iguro, the Serpent Hashira, who is devoted to her. Obanai is listed at 162 cm, so Mitsuri is 5 cm taller. In many romance stories the man is drawn as the taller partner; here it is the other way round, and Gotouge never makes it an issue. Obanai's love for her is shown through gifts, letters and protectiveness, and their final scenes together in the last arc are among the most emotional in the series.
| Character | Height | Difference vs Mitsuri |
|---|---|---|
| Mitsuri Kanroji | 167 cm | — |
| Obanai Iguro | 162 cm | −5 cm |
Five centimeters is a modest gap, so in most panels the two look nearly level. The Japanese Wikipedia entry describes Obanai as a comparatively small man who carries a white snake, Kaburamaru, that helps compensate for his weak right eye, and notes that he and Mitsuri exchange letters.
Mitsuri next to the Hashira
Mitsuri is in the middle of the pack among the Hashira. The table below uses the heights this site records.
| Hashira | Breathing | Height | Difference vs Mitsuri |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gyomei Himejima | Stone | 220 cm | +53 cm |
| Tengen Uzui | Sound | 198 cm | +31 cm |
| Sanemi Shinazugawa | Wind | 179 cm | +12 cm |
| Kyojuro Rengoku | Flame | 177 cm | +10 cm |

| Obanai Iguro | Serpent | 162 cm | −5 cm |
| Muichiro Tokito | Mist | 160 cm | −7 cm |
| Shinobu Kocho | Insect | 151 cm | −16 cm |
Mitsuri and Rengoku
Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, is 177 cm, 10 cm taller than Mitsuri. Before she became a Hashira, Mitsuri trained under Rengoku as his tsuguko (successor), and her Love Breathing developed out of his Flame Breathing. The student, 10 cm shorter than her teacher, adapted his style to her unusual body, creating a new technique rather than copying his.
Mitsuri and Shinobu
Shinobu Kocho, at 151 cm, is the other female Hashira and the shortest of the group. Mitsuri is 16 cm taller. The two are a study in contrasts: Shinobu is tiny, too weak to behead demons and relies on poison, while Mitsuri's dense muscles give her raw power. Between them, they show two very different ways a woman fights in the Corps, neither based on height.
Mitsuri and Tengen
Tengen Uzui, at 198 cm, is 31 cm taller than Mitsuri, and Gyomei Himejima, at 220 cm, is 53 cm taller. In group scenes of the Hashira, Mitsuri sits roughly at the visual center, with the giants on one side and Obanai, Muichiro and Shinobu on the other.
Mitsuri, Tanjiro and the Swordsmith Village
In the Swordsmith Village arc, Mitsuri fights alongside Tanjiro Kamado, who is 165 cm, 2 cm shorter. Together with Nezuko and Genya, they face the Upper Rank Four demon Hantengu, who is listed at 166 cm in his base form, just 1 cm shorter than Mitsuri. Hantengu splits into multiple bodies, so the comparison only applies to his original shape. According to the Japanese Wikipedia entry, Mitsuri awakens her demon slayer mark in this fight and holds back Zohakuten, the most powerful of his incarnations.
| Character | Height | Difference vs Mitsuri |
|---|---|---|
| Genya Shinazugawa | 180 cm | +13 cm |
| Kaigaku | 167 cm | 0 cm |
| Mitsuri Kanroji | 167 cm | — |
| Hantengu (base form) | 166 cm | −1 cm |
| Tanjiro Kamado | 165 cm | −2 cm |
| Zenitsu Agatsuma | 164.5 cm | −2.5 cm |
| Inosuke Hashibira | 164 cm | −3 cm |
| Kanao Tsuyuri | 156 cm | −11 cm |
| Nezuko Kamado | 153 cm | −14 cm |
| Tamayo | 150 cm | −17 cm |
Reach without height: Love Breathing and the whip sword
Mitsuri's weapon is unlike any other Nichirin blade in the series. Her sword is extremely thin and flexible, closer to a whip or ribbon than a katana, and she wields it in sweeping, looping arcs. Only someone with her strength and flexibility could control it, and it gives her something a 167 cm fighter otherwise lacks: reach. The long, lashing blade covers far more ground than a rigid sword held by a taller Hashira, so in the space around her she can strike as widely as Gyomei with his flail.
Love Breathing builds on that. Its forms rely on speed, flexibility and the elasticity of her muscles, and the anime renders them as ribbons of pink light curling around her body. The design lets a mid-height fighter dominate a battlefield, which is exactly what the Swordsmith Village fight shows: Mitsuri holds back Zohakuten, Hantengu's strongest form, while the others search for the demon's true body.
Spoiler note: Mitsuri and Muzan
In the final arc, Mitsuri and Obanai fight Muzan Kibutsuji, the progenitor of all demons, who is listed at 179 cm in his main form, 12 cm taller than her. Muzan's body can extend whip-like limbs and change shape, so his listed height describes only his human disguise. Mitsuri is fatally wounded in that battle; after Muzan is destroyed, she and Obanai promise to be together in their next lives before both succumb. Because she dies at 19, the 167 cm fanbook figure is the only height she will ever have.
The Infinity Castle storyline that leads up to this battle is being adapted by Ufotable as a film trilogy. The first part, released in Japan on July 18, 2025, grossed $820.4 million worldwide and became the highest-grossing Japanese film, according to Wikipedia, so Mitsuri's final fight is likely to reach a very large audience on screen.
Height in the Taishō era: a very tall woman for her time
Demon Slayer is set in the Taishō era (1912 to 1926), and that is where Mitsuri's height becomes striking. This site's Japan average height page, built from NCD Risk Factor Collaboration data, puts Japanese women born in 1896 at about 142.3 cm and those born in 1926 at about 149.9 cm.
| Comparison group | Average height | Mitsuri's difference |
|---|---|---|
| Japanese women born in 1896 (NCD-RisC) | 142.3 cm | +24.7 cm |
| Japanese women born in 1926 (NCD-RisC) | 149.9 cm | +17.1 cm |
| Japanese men born in 1896 (NCD-RisC) | 156.2 cm | +10.8 cm |
| Japanese women born in 1996 (NCD-RisC) | 158.3 cm | +8.7 cm |
| Japanese 17-year-old girls, 2025 (MEXT) | 157.9 cm | +9.1 cm |
At 19 in the Taishō era, and so born around the turn of the century, Mitsuri would have stood roughly 25 cm above the average woman of her generation, and nearly 11 cm above the average man. To put that in modern terms, a 25 cm gap is about the difference between an average American woman and a 6′2″ man. Our World in Data notes that men and women worldwide gained about 8 to 9 cm in average height over the following century; in Japan, the site's data shows women gaining 16 cm between the 1896 and 1996 cohorts. In her own era, Mitsuri was not just tall, she was exceptional.
What 167 cm means today
By modern standards, Mitsuri is tall for a Japanese woman but not extreme. Japan's Ministry of Education measured the average 17-year-old girl at 157.9 cm in its fiscal 2025 survey, and NCD-RisC puts Japanese women born in 1996 at 158.3 cm. Mitsuri is about 9 cm above both figures. Globally, Our World in Data puts the average woman born in 1996 at about 159 cm.
