Jill Valentine's official height: 166 cm, with a later 172 cm profile
Jill Valentine is listed at 166 cm (5′5″) in this site's database. The figure comes from Capcom's official website for the 2002 Resident Evil remake for the GameCube, which also gave her weight as 50.4 kg (about 111 lb). The Resident Evil Wiki cites that site as the source for both numbers, and it is the earliest well-documented Capcom figure for the character.
There is a second, taller listing. A character profile from the Mercenaries mode of Resident Evil 5 (2009), which presents Jill in her BSAA tactical outfit, gives 172 cm (5′8″) and 56 kg (123 lb). That is a 6 cm difference, larger than the gap between the two figures for her colleague Leon Kennedy, and it has caused some confusion on fan height charts.
| Source | Era of Jill depicted | Height | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resident Evil (2002) official website | S.T.A.R.S. officer, 1998 | 166 cm (5′5″) | 50.4 kg (111 lb) |
| Resident Evil 5 Mercenaries profile | BSAA agent, 2009 | 172 cm (5′8″) | 56 kg (123 lb) |
Capcom has never explained the change. Adults do not grow 6 cm in their late twenties, so the more likely explanation is that the two profiles were written by different teams for different games, with the Resident Evil 5 figure matched to a redesigned character model. This site uses the original 166 cm as its headline value because it is the figure tied to Jill's defining appearances in Raccoon City and is the one most fans recognize. Where the 172 cm figure is relevant, such as comparisons from the Resident Evil 5 era, we note it.
Jill across the series: from S.T.A.R.S. to the BSAA
Jill has one of the longest careers in the franchise, beginning with the very first game. The Resident Evil Wiki places her birth around 1974.
| Appearance | In-universe year | Jill's approximate age | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resident Evil (1996; remake 2002) | July 1998 | about 24 | S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team member in the Spencer Mansion |
| Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999; remake 2020) | September 1998 | about 24 | Sole protagonist escaping Raccoon City |
| Resident Evil: Revelations (2012) | 2005 | 31 | BSAA agent aboard the Queen Zenobia |
| Resident Evil 5 (2009) | 2009 | 35 | Captive of Albert Wesker, later rescued |
| Resident Evil: Death Island (2023) | 2015 | 41 | Joins Leon, Chris, Claire and Rebecca at Alcatraz |
Wikipedia's account of the character notes that Death Island shows Jill looking youthful at around 40, which the story attributes to lingering effects of the T-virus on her body. That is the only time the series directly addresses how the character has aged, and it has nothing to do with her height.
The 1996 original and the 2002 remake
Jill was created by Shinji Mikami and Isao Ohishi and designed by Jun Takeuchi and Ohishi for the original Resident Evil, in which she is one of two playable protagonists alongside Chris Redfield. Her campaign is the "easier" route through the mansion, with more inventory slots and a lockpick, while Chris's is harder. The 2002 GameCube remake rebuilt the game from the ground up, and its official website is where Capcom published the 166 cm and 50.4 kg figures.
Resident Evil 3 and its remake
In Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Jill is the sole protagonist, fleeing Raccoon City while being hunted by the Nemesis, a bioweapon designed to eliminate the surviving S.T.A.R.S. members. The 2020 remake based her appearance on Russian model Sasha Zotova, with Nicole Tompkins providing voice and motion capture. Neither change came with a new official height, so the 166 cm figure continues to apply.
Resident Evil 5
In Resident Evil 5, Jill appears under Wesker's control in a cloaked disguise, with blond hair and pale skin, before being freed by Chris and Sheva Alomar. Patricia Ja Lee provided her voice and motion capture. This is the era of the 172 cm Mercenaries profile.
Jill compared with the Resident Evil cast
Jill is one of the shorter members of the core cast. This table uses canonical figures from this site's Resident Evil database.
| Character | Height | Difference from Jill (166 cm) |
|---|---|---|
| Lady Dimitrescu (with hat and heels) | 290 cm (9′6″) | 124 cm taller |
| Barry Burton | 186 cm (6′1″) | 20 cm taller |
| Chris Redfield | 185 cm (6′1″) | 19 cm taller |
| Albert Wesker | 183 cm (6′0″) | 17 cm taller |
| Ethan Winters | 180 cm (5′11″) | 14 cm taller |
| Leon S. Kennedy | 178 cm (5′10″) | 12 cm taller |
| Ada Wong | 170 cm (5′7″) | 4 cm taller |
| Claire Redfield | 169.4 cm (5′7″) | 3.4 cm taller |
| Rebecca Chambers | 161 cm (5′3″) | 5 cm shorter |
Jill and Chris
The partnership between Jill and Chris Redfield is the oldest in the series. Chris is listed at 185 cm, which makes him 19 cm taller than Jill's original figure. In the Resident Evil 5 era, with Jill at 172 cm, the gap narrows to 13 cm. Their scenes together, from the mansion in 1998 to the fight with Wesker at the Spencer Estate and in Africa, typically frame Chris as the heavier hitter and Jill as the precise, technical operative. Her S.T.A.R.S. background in bomb disposal and lockpicking, mentioned in Capcom's guidebooks, fits that role.
Jill and the S.T.A.R.S. team
Among the original S.T.A.R.S. members in this site's database, Jill sits between Barry Burton (186 cm) and Rebecca Chambers (161 cm). Barry, the magnum-carrying veteran who helps and sometimes misleads Jill in the mansion, stands 20 cm taller. Rebecca, the Bravo Team medic, is 5 cm shorter. Wesker, the team captain who betrays them, is listed at 183 cm, 17 cm above Jill.
Jill and Leon
Leon Kennedy is listed at 178 cm, 12 cm taller than Jill. The two had never shared a mainline storyline until Resident Evil: Death Island, in which they fight through the tunnels beneath Alcatraz together. Leon's own height also has two official figures, 178 cm and 180 cm, so Jill and Leon are the two Raccoon City survivors whose listings fans debate most.
Jill and Lady Dimitrescu
Jill never meets Lady Dimitrescu, the towering vampire of Resident Evil Village, but the comparison is a popular one. Capcom put Dimitrescu at 2.9 m including her hat and heels, which would make her 124 cm taller than Jill, almost twice her height when the hat is included.
Jill on screen: actors and models
Jill has been brought to life by a long list of performers, and none of them has changed her canonical height. In the original 1996 game's live-action cutscenes, she was played by an actress credited as Inezh. In the Paul W. S. Anderson film series, Sienna Guillory played her in Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) and Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), with the first of those drawing heavily on Jill's costume and story from Resident Evil 3. Hannah John-Kamen played her in the reboot film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021).
In the games, Jill's voice and motion capture have come from several actresses: Patricia Ja Lee in Resident Evil 5, Michelle Ruff in Revelations, and Nicole Tompkins in the 2020 Resident Evil 3 remake and the CG film Death Island. The remake's facial likeness came from Russian model Sasha Zotova. Capcom builds each character model to its own specification, so the performers' own heights are not a guide to Jill's. That is one reason the official profiles, rather than any actress, are the right basis for comparisons.
Converting Jill's heights
Both of Jill's figures are often rounded loosely, so it helps to see the exact conversions. One inch is 2.54 cm, and one foot is 30.48 cm.
- 166 cm is 65.35 inches, or 5′5.4″, usually rounded to 5′5″. The 166 cm to feet page walks through the math.
- 172 cm is 67.72 inches, or 5′7.7″, which rounds to 5′8″.
The 6 cm difference between the two profiles is therefore about 2.4 inches, enough to be visible when the two models stand side by side but small enough that footwear alone could account for much of it in a real person. Jill's combat boots in Resident Evil 5 add some height to the model on screen, though Capcom has not said whether its 172 cm figure includes footwear.
How Jill's size fits her role
Capcom has never made Jill's height a plot point, but her size works neatly with how the games present her. In the original Resident Evil, she is the more agile and resourceful of the two playable characters, with a larger inventory and the ability to pick locks. In Resident Evil 3, she is hunted by the Nemesis, a towering pursuer whose size is the source of much of the game's terror. The contrast between a 166 cm officer and a giant bioweapon is central to that game's design: Jill survives by dodging, running and improvising, not by overpowering what chases her.
Her later redesigns lean into an athletic, tactical look. The Resident Evil 5 profile's higher height and weight, 172 cm and 56 kg, fit a more powerful presentation for a character who had spent years as a BSAA field operative. Whether the profile was written to match that model or simply recorded different numbers, it reflects a Jill who is presented as more physically formidable than the 1998 version.
What 166 cm means in the real world
For an American woman, 166 cm is a little above average. The CDC's National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for August 2021 to August 2023 puts the median height of women aged 20 and over in the United States at 161.2 cm, with the 75th percentile at 166.1 cm. Jill's original height therefore sits at about the 75th percentile: taller than roughly three in four American women. Her later 172 cm figure would put her above the 90th percentile, close to the 95th (172.5 cm).
NCD-RisC, which models height by birth cohort, estimates that women born in 1996 in the United States average 163.5 cm, so Jill's 166 cm is about 2.5 cm above that generational average. You can explore those benchmarks on the average height by country pages, check either of Jill's figures with the height percentile calculator, or see her beside Chris and Leon at true scale with the height comparison tool.
Which height should you use for Jill?
For most purposes, 166 cm is the better figure. It comes from Capcom's official site for the 2002 remake, it applies to Jill in her best-known appearances in the Spencer Mansion and Raccoon City, and it is the value this site uses throughout. The 172 cm figure is legitimate but era-specific: it describes the BSAA agent of Resident Evil 5's Mercenaries mode. When you see 5′8″ listed for Jill online, it almost always traces back to that profile. When you see 5′5″, it traces back to the remake's website.
