Where Resident Evil heights come from

Capcom's Resident Evil, known as Biohazard in Japan, began in 1996 with a PlayStation game created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara, according to Wikipedia. Three decades and nine main installments later, from the original mansion to Resident Evil Village (2021) and Resident Evil Requiem (2026), the series has published character heights in a patchwork of places rather than in a single databook. Wikipedia credits the first game with defining the survival horror genre and reports more than 213 million games sold as of June 2026, so these figures have been quoted, and argued over, by a very large audience.

The Resident Evil Wiki traces each figure to its origin. The main sources are:

• Official Capcom game websites, especially the Japanese sites for Resident Evil 0, the 2002 Resident Evil remake and Code: Veronica, now preserved in web archives.
• In-game profiles, including the Mercenaries mode in Resident Evil 5 and a character profile from Resident Evil 1.5.
• Official guidebooks, such as BradyGames' Resident Evil Archives, the Biohazard: Damnation Art Guide (with a height chart) and the Biohazard 7 resident evil kaitaishinsho.
• Capcom's social media, in the case of Lady Dimitrescu.
• The original game's opening cast sequence, the source the wiki cites for Barry Burton.

Because these sources span 25 years, several characters have more than one official height. The site uses one figure per character, and this page explains where the alternatives come from.

Resident Evil heights at a glance

Lady Dimitrescu: the tallest figure in the series

Lady Dimitrescu made height the headline of Resident Evil Village. Wikipedia describes her as a gigantic, vampire-like noblewoman who lives with her three daughters in Castle Dimitrescu, and reports that she stands 2.9 m (about 9′6″) including her hat and high heels. The Resident Evil Wiki, citing Capcom's own post on its @RE_Games account, phrases the figure as "under 290 cm." The site stores 290 cm, with the understanding that the hat and heels are part of it.

Her height was a deliberate design element from the start. According to Wikipedia's account of her creation:

• An early prototype reused the model of Mia Winters from Resident Evil 7 with a hat and dress, which looked ghostly but not frightening. Scaling the model up, with the added accessories, supplied the fear the team wanted.
• One of art director Tomonori Takano's first pieces of concept art showed her leaning down to step through a doorway, a scene he decided had to appear in both the final game and its first trailer.
• Director Kento Kinoshita later reduced her height to make gameplay smoother.

In the story, Wikipedia explains, her condition gradually made her grow to enormous size. Her design was based on the Polish model Helena Mankowska, and her voice and motion capture were performed by Maggie Robertson.

Her height also drove the character's popularity. Wikipedia notes that many commentators identified her unusual height as a key reason for the surge of fan interest that began even before the game's May 2021 release.

Ethan, the protagonist of Village, meets her at a 110 cm disadvantage, which means she is about 61% taller than him.

Chris Redfield's three heights

Chris Redfield shows how Capcom's figures have changed over time. The Resident Evil Wiki lists three:

The site uses the most recent, 185 cm. The 4 cm spread is modest, but it means fan lists can disagree depending on which game they cite. The wiki lists his age as 25 in the first game and in Code: Veronica.

Leon, Jill and the other heroes

Leon S. Kennedy has two figures. A profile from Resident Evil 1.5 lists him at 178 cm, and the height chart in the Biohazard: Damnation Art Guide gives 180 cm. The site uses 178 cm. Either way, Leon is shorter than Chris.

Jill Valentine is 166 cm on the official site for the 2002 remake, and 172 cm in a Mercenaries profile from Resident Evil 5. The site uses the remake figure. The wiki lists her age as 23 in the first and third games.

Claire Redfield, Chris's sister, has the most precise figure in the series: 169.4 cm, from the Japanese Code: Veronica website, where she is 19. That makes her 15.6 cm shorter than her brother by the site's figures.

Rebecca Chambers, the team's medic in 1998, is 161 cm on the Resident Evil 0 website and in the Resident Evil Archives, and the wiki lists her as 18 in the first two games she appears in. Barry Burton, at 186 cm, is the tallest human in the site's list; his figure comes from the original game's opening cast sequence. Ethan Winters, who appears in Resident Evil 7 and Village, is 180 cm according to the official kaitaishinsho guide.

Wesker and Ada

Albert Wesker's 183 cm figure is one of the best supported in the series. The wiki cites the Resident Evil 0 site, page 115 of the Resident Evil Archives and the Code: Veronica site. A Mercenaries profile in Resident Evil 5 gives a taller 190 cm, which would put him above Chris; the site uses the better-attested 183 cm, 2 cm shorter than Chris's latest figure.

Ada Wong is 170 cm in the Damnation Art Guide's height chart, the same chart that lists Leon at 180 cm. On that chart, the two stand 10 cm apart.

The right-hand column is useful when you want a like-for-like comparison: heights from the same source were presumably set relative to each other, whereas heights from different eras may not have been.

The Winters family and the Bakers

The first-person era that began with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) came with its own official guide, the Biohazard 7 resident evil kaitaishinsho. The Resident Evil Wiki cites its opening pages for three heights:

Jack Baker, one of the central figures of Resident Evil 7, which Wikipedia notes is set in a dilapidated mansion in Louisiana, is 190 cm, which would make him taller than anyone in the site's main Resident Evil list except Lady Dimitrescu. Ethan, at 180 cm, gives away 10 cm to Jack in Resident Evil 7 and 110 cm to Dimitrescu in Village.

Mia's 170 cm figure links the two games in an unexpected way. According to Wikipedia, the earliest Lady Dimitrescu prototype was built from Mia's character model, given a hat and a dress. The team only found the right effect once it scaled that model up. In other words, the series' tallest character began as a 170 cm woman, grown by roughly 120 cm.

Several other well-known figures have no official height at all. The wiki's infobox fields for Nemesis, the Tyrant T-00 (Mr. X), Karl Heisenberg and Dimitrescu's daughter Bela are empty, some with editors' notes asking for a source. Without a Capcom figure, the site doesn't list them.

How Resident Evil heights compare with real people

Much of the early series is set in the United States, in and around the fictional Midwestern metropolis of Raccoon City, so the US is a natural benchmark. The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration's 2016 eLife study of adult height in 200 countries gives Americans born in 1996 a mean of 177.1 cm for men and 163.5 cm for women, the figures on the site's average height in the United States page.

The human cast is realistic. Leon is almost exactly average for an American man, Chris and Barry are tall but not extraordinary, and the women range from slightly below to several centimeters above the female average. Lady Dimitrescu, at 290 cm, is more than 120 cm taller than the average American woman.

Using these figures

• Pick a source and stick to it. Where characters have more than one height, compare figures from the same game or guide.
• Remember the hat. Dimitrescu's 290 cm includes her hat and heels, so her body is somewhat shorter.
• Figures change between games. Capcom has revised heights over 25 years, and the latest isn't always the best attested. Wesker's 183 cm appears in three sources, while his 190 cm appears in one.
• Metric originals. Many figures come from Japanese Capcom sites and guides and are given in centimeters, so the feet-and-inches values on this page are conversions. Claire's 169.4 cm, for instance, is just under 5′7″.
• Gaps tell you more than totals. Jill's two figures differ by 6 cm, enough to change whether she is shorter or taller than Ada Wong (170 cm). Comparing characters from the same chart, such as Leon and Ada in the Damnation Art Guide, avoids that problem.
