Real people the same height as Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha's official height: 178 cm in Part II

Itachi Uchiha, Sasuke's older brother and the Akatsuki member at the center of Naruto's darkest secret, is listed at 178 cm (5′10″). That is his height in Part II, from the third official databook, Sha no Sho, as compiled by Narutopedia. Itachi is 21 at that point, and it is the last height ever recorded for him.

Itachi has two databook heights, one for each part of the original series:

Period Age Height Weight Source
Part I 17–18 175.2 cm (5′9″) 57.1 kg First and second databooks
Part II 21 178 cm (5′10″) 58 kg Third databook, Sha no Sho

Between the two parts, he grows 2.8 cm and gains less than a kilogram. Both weights are strikingly low for his height. At 178 cm and 58 kg, his body mass index is about 18.3, at the very bottom of the normal range. The databooks list his blood type as AB, the same as Sasuke's.

Why such a slim build?

The numbers fit how Itachi is drawn: a thin, pale young man in a long Akatsuki cloak, with lines under his eyes that make him look older and more tired than his age. Without going into detail, the late manga reveals that Itachi is seriously ill during Part II, which gives readers a reason to look back at that slight frame differently. His weight also fits his fighting style. Narutopedia notes that Itachi named genjutsu, Fire Release and shurikenjutsu as his specialties, all techniques built on precision and illusion rather than physical power.

Itachi and Sasuke: a 10 cm gap that eventually reversed

Itachi's whole story is defined by his relationship with his younger brother, and their heights track that relationship across the series. The databooks consistently date Itachi as five years older than Sasuke.

Stage Itachi Sasuke Gap
Part I 175.2 cm (age 17–18) 150.8–153.2 cm (age 12–13) Itachi +22 to +24.4 cm
Part II 178 cm (age 21) 168 cm (age 16–17) Itachi +10 cm
Adult (Blank Period) — 182 cm Sasuke +4 cm over Itachi's final height

In Part I, when Itachi returns to Konoha after the Konoha Crush and easily overpowers Sasuke, the gap is more than 22 cm. It looks like an adult dominating a child, and in physical terms that is almost what it is. By the time of their final fight in Part II, Sasuke has closed the gap to 10 cm, though he is still noticeably shorter.

Itachi never grows past 178 cm. Sasuke, at 182 cm as an adult, eventually stands 4 cm taller than his brother ever did. It is a small but poignant detail: the younger brother who spent his youth trying to catch up finally surpasses Itachi in height years after his death.

One of the series' most famous gestures depends on the height difference. When they were young, Itachi would poke Sasuke on the forehead while apologizing that he could not play with him. With Itachi so much taller, it is a gesture that only works from above, and its final repetition near the end of Part II carries that history with it.

Itachi among the Uchiha clan

Uchiha Height Difference vs Itachi (178 cm)
Sasuke (adult, Blank Period) 182 cm +4 cm
Shisui Uchiha 180 cm +2 cm
Madara Uchiha 179 cm +1 cm
Itachi Uchiha 178 cm —
Fugaku Uchiha (father) 175.3 cm −2.7 cm
Obito Uchiha (Part II) 175–182 cm −3 to +4 cm
Sasuke (Part II) 168 cm −10 cm
Mikoto Uchiha (mother) 162.6 cm −15.4 cm

Itachi ended up taller than both of his parents: 2.7 cm above his father, Fugaku, who led the clan and the Konoha Military Police, and more than 15 cm above his mother, Mikoto. His closest friend, Shisui Uchiha, is listed at 180 cm, 2 cm taller. Madara Uchiha, the clan's legendary founder figure, is listed at 179 cm, just 1 cm above Itachi. Among the major Uchiha men, the heights cluster tightly between about 175 and 182 cm.

Itachi in the Akatsuki

Itachi spends Part I and much of Part II paired with Kisame Hoshigaki, a former Swordsman of the Mist. The partnership is one of the most visually lopsided in the series.

Akatsuki and rivals Height Difference vs Itachi (178 cm)
Kisame Hoshigaki (partner) 195 cm +17 cm
Jiraiya 191.2 cm +13.2 cm
Might Guy 184 cm +6 cm
Kakashi Hatake 181 cm +3 cm
Itachi Uchiha 178 cm —
Naruto Uzumaki (Part II) 166 cm −12 cm

Kisame is 17 cm taller and, at 83.1 kg, about 25 kg heavier. The pairing sets a hulking swordsman with a giant sentient blade beside a slight young man who barely raises his voice, and the story makes it clear that the smaller partner is the more dangerous of the two. When the pair first appear in Konoha in Part I, they clash with Kakashi, Asuma, Kurenai and Guy. At his Part I height of 175.2 cm, Itachi is shorter than every man on the other side: Asuma Sarutobi is 190.8 cm, Guy 184 cm and Kakashi 181 cm. Only Kurenai, at 169.1 cm, is shorter. He still dismantles Kakashi with a single genjutsu, a scene that sets the tone for how the series treats him.

Narutopedia's trivia adds that Itachi is tied with Jiraiya for the highest stat total in the databooks. At 178 cm, he is 13 cm shorter than the Toad Sage, which again makes the point that size and strength rarely line up in Naruto.

Itachi's height as a child: what the anime says

No databook gives Itachi's height before Part I. Narutopedia does record the figures from Studio Pierrot's model sheets, which show how the animators handled him in flashbacks, and they are not consistent with each other:

Source Stage Height
Shippuden model sheets Academy student 125 cm
Shippuden model sheets Genin 130 cm
Shippuden model sheets Becoming Anbu 148 cm
Shippuden model sheets Uchiha clan downfall 170 cm
Part I model sheets Uchiha clan downfall 175 cm
Part I model sheets Return after the Konoha Crush 175 cm

The two anime productions disagree about how tall Itachi was on the night of the massacre, 170 cm or 175 cm, a difference of 5 cm for the same scene. Since he was about 13 at the time, the Shippuden figure is the more plausible one. Japan's Ministry of Education measured the average 13-year-old boy at 161.1 cm in its fiscal 2025 School Health Statistics Survey, so even 170 cm would make young Itachi tall for his age, while 175 cm would be exceptional.

Narutopedia also notes discrepancies in Itachi's timeline. He was originally said to have become an Anbu captain at 13, which conflicted with the databooks' five-year age gap with Sasuke. The Itachi Shinden novels later resolved the issue. The point for height comparisons is that childhood numbers for Itachi come from animation references and an evolving timeline, so they should be treated as approximate.

How Itachi's design shapes his height

According to Wikipedia's account of the character's creation, Kishimoto had not planned Itachi's backstory when Sasuke first mentioned him; the only idea was that Itachi had done something terrible enough to make Sasuke want to kill him. The concept of Itachi as a secret agent who wiped out his clan on Konoha's orders came later. An early plan made him the leader of a 70-member Anbu unit, which was scrapped in favor of the Akatsuki version. Kishimoto has said Itachi is his favorite of the Akatsuki members he designed, because of his backstory.

The visual design emphasizes restraint. Itachi is usually drawn standing still, wrapped in his cloak with one arm inside it, and rarely in dramatic poses. Unlike Sasuke or Naruto, his hair lies flat and is tied back in a low ponytail, so it adds nothing to his silhouette. When he appears beside Kisame, whose size and weapon fill the panel, Itachi looks smaller than his 178 cm, which is part of the effect: the threat comes from his eyes, not his frame.

Why this site uses 178 cm

Itachi has two official heights, and this site uses the later one. The Part II figure of 178 cm comes from the third databook, Sha no Sho, which has an English edition. It describes Itachi at 21, in the period when most of his major scenes take place: the hunt for the jinchūriki, the rematch with Sasuke and the revelations that follow. It is also, because he does not survive the series, his final height. The 175.2 cm Part I figure describes the same character three years younger and is useful for comparisons set during the original series.

A few cautions help when you line Itachi up against others:

  • His adult height is final. Unlike Naruto, Sasuke or Sakura, Itachi has no Blank Period height, because he dies during Part II. When he is reanimated during the Fourth Shinobi World War, he appears in the same body.
  • Animation figures conflict. The model sheets give two different heights for the massacre, so avoid treating either as canon.
  • The cloak hides his build. The Akatsuki cloak's high collar and loose cut make Itachi look broader than his 58 kg suggests, but it does not change his height.

What 178 cm means in real-world terms

Converted, 178 cm is 70.1 inches, or just over 5′10″. The 178 cm page shows the conversion and real people at that mark. Itachi is tall for a Japanese man: the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration estimates the average adult Japanese man born in 1996 at 170.8 cm, about 7 cm below him. The average height in Japan page shows the full trend.

Comparison Height Difference vs Itachi
Average Japanese man (NCD-RisC, 1996 cohort) 170.8 cm +7.2 cm
Average US man (NCD-RisC, 1996 cohort) 177.1 cm +0.9 cm
Timothée Chalamet 178 cm Same height
Zendaya 178 cm Same height

In the United States, Itachi would be almost exactly average, less than 1 cm above the typical man. Two well-known actors are listed at precisely his height on this site, Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, so a side-by-side with either shows no difference.

  • Itachi vs Part II Sasuke: 10 cm at the time of their final fight.
  • Itachi vs adult Sasuke: Sasuke finally 4 cm taller.
  • Itachi vs Kisame: 17 cm between the Akatsuki partners.
