Real people the same height as Eren Yeager

Eren Yeager's official height: two numbers, one timeskip

Eren Yeager has two canonical heights, and which one you quote depends on where you are in the story. The first official listing comes from the original Attack on Titan Guidebook (released in Japan as Inside and Outside in 2013 and combined into one volume in North America in 2014). On its character page, Eren in the year 850, the year of the fall of Trost, is 170 cm (5′7″) and 63 kg. The later Attack on Titan Character Encyclopedia FINAL updated him for the year 854, after the four-year timeskip that opens the Marley arc. There he is 183 cm (6′0″) and 82 kg.

This site uses the 183 cm figure as Eren's headline height, as the data entry notes, because it describes the adult Eren of the final arc and the anime's Final Season. The 170 cm number is not wrong. It belongs to the 15-year-old trainee of the early story. You'll still see 170 cm on older fan sites and in pre-2021 videos, which is why the two numbers keep getting mixed up.

Year (story) Eren's age Height Weight Source
850 (Trost, early arcs) 15 170 cm (5′7″) 63 kg Attack on Titan Guidebook, p. 251
854 (Marley, final arc) 19 183 cm (6′0″) 82 kg Character Encyclopedia FINAL, p. 142

Neither book gives a measurement for Eren at 10, the age at which the series opens in 845, so any "child Eren" height you see online is an estimate.

Manga, anime and the Yeager/Jaeger question

The Wit Studio anime (seasons 1–3) and the MAPPA Final Season follow the manga's designs closely, and neither studio published heights that contradict the guidebooks. The difference fans notice is the spelling. Kodansha's English manga uses Yeager, and the anime's English releases used Jaeger. Both render the same name, which comes from the German word for "hunter," and the measurements don't change. If you search this site for "Eren Jaeger height," it resolves to the same entry.

The live-action films from 2015 reworked the cast and setting, so the actor's height there has no bearing on the canon figures. The guidebooks describe Hajime Isayama's character, not any performer.

Thirteen centimeters in four years: how plausible is Eren's growth?

A 13 cm gain between 15 and 19 is large but not outlandish. For a real comparison, the CDC 2000 growth charts used across US pediatrics put the median boy at about 172 cm at 15½ and about 177 cm at 19½. By those charts Eren at 170 cm sat near the 40th percentile for his age, a little below average, as his early design suggests. At 183 cm and 19, he lands around the 81st percentile, well above average.

In other words, Eren went from slightly short for his age to clearly tall in four years. That is a bigger gain than the median boy makes, since much of a typical boy's growth is done by 15. Late bloomers do exist, though, and the story offers a reason for the bulk if not the height. Eren spends those years as a soldier, then as an undercover operative, and the 19 kg he gains is consistent with a much more muscular adult frame.

Within the fiction the growth also serves the story. According to the English Wikipedia article on the character, Isayama created Eren as an ordinary youngster paralyzed by fear at the sight of a Titan. The smaller teenager of 850 suits that role. The taller, heavier, long-haired figure of 854 looks like someone the world should be afraid of, and the change in size makes the change in character visible.

Eren versus Mikasa, Armin and the rest of the cast

Eren's height reads very differently next to the cast in 850 and in 854. In 850 the guidebook lists Mikasa at the same 170 cm, and much of the early story's dynamic, with Mikasa stronger and protective of him, plays out between two people of equal height. By 854 the Character Encyclopedia FINAL has Mikasa at 176 cm, so she grew too, but Eren grew more.

The table below uses the heights in this site's character data, all sourced to the guidebooks. It also shows the post-timeskip difference from Eren's 183 cm.

Character Height Difference vs Eren (183 cm)
Bertholdt Hoover 192 cm Bertholdt +9 cm
Jean Kirstein 190 cm Jean +7 cm
Erwin Smith 188 cm Erwin +5 cm
Reiner Braun 188 cm Reiner +5 cm
Zeke Yeager 183 cm Equal
Connie Springer 180 cm Eren +3 cm
Mikasa Ackerman 176 cm Eren +7 cm
Sasha Blouse 173 cm Eren +10 cm
Hange Zoë 170 cm Eren +13 cm
Armin Arlert 169 cm Eren +14 cm
Levi Ackerman 160 cm Eren +23 cm
Annie Leonhart 153 cm Eren +30 cm
Historia Reiss 145 cm Eren +38 cm

Two details stand out. First, adult Eren is exactly as tall as his half-brother Zeke, and the two Yeager sons share the same listed 183 cm. Second, Eren is still not the tallest of his own cohort. Jean, Bertholdt and Reiner all stand above him, which fits a series where Eren's threat has always come from the Titan inside him rather than from his human stature.

The gap to Levi is the comparison fans quote most. At 23 cm, it is about the same as the gap between an average American man and a tall NBA guard. You can see it to scale by setting the two side by side in the height comparison tool or by opening the Attack on Titan character hub.

From 4 meters to 15: Eren's Titan forms

Eren's human height is only half the story. The wiki's infobox, citing the guidebooks and the manga, lists three relevant sizes:

  • Pure Titan form: 4 m (13 ft). After his father injects him, the serum turns the young Eren into a small, mindless Titan, and the guidebook puts that form at 4 meters.
  • Attack Titan: 15 m (49 ft). This is the form he uses for most of the series. It is muscular and lean, and the Attack on Titan Wiki cites several manga chapters for the 15 m figure.
  • Final form. In the last arc Eren's Titan becomes something of a different order. Wikipedia notes that Isayama drew on the Cambrian creature Hallucigenia for its skeletal design. The sources don't give a single official height for this form, so we don't list one.

The 15 m Attack Titan is about 82 times Eren's human height of 183 cm, or 88 times his 170 cm height in 850. It is also a quarter of the way to the Colossal Titan, which stands 60 m and can look over the 50 m Walls. Isayama based the Attack Titan's build on a real fighter, the Japanese mixed martial artist Yūshin Okami, and described the look he wanted as the ideal build of a middleweight, according to an interview with MTV Geek cited by the wiki. That helps explain why the form looks lean and athletic rather than bulky like the Armored Titan.

Form Height Multiple of human Eren (183 cm)
Human (854) 1.83 m 1×
Pure Titan 4 m ~2.2×
Attack Titan 15 m ~8.2×
Colossal Titan (for scale) 60 m ~33×

Eren among other shōnen protagonists

Compared with the leads of other popular action manga, adult Eren is unusually tall. Shōnen heroes tend to be drawn as average-sized or small teenagers, so the reader can grow with them. Eren starts out that way and then leaves the group. Using this site's data for each series' official profiles:

Protagonist Series Height vs Eren (183 cm)
Goku Dragon Ball 175 cm Eren +8 cm
Monkey D. Luffy One Piece 174 cm Eren +9 cm
Yuji Itadori Jujutsu Kaisen 173 cm Eren +10 cm
Denji Chainsaw Man 173 cm Eren +10 cm
Naruto Uzumaki Naruto 166 cm Eren +17 cm
Izuku Midoriya My Hero Academia 166 cm Eren +17 cm
Tanjiro Kamado Demon Slayer 165 cm Eren +18 cm

The 850 Eren, at 170 cm, fits right into the middle of this list, between Naruto and Itadori. The 854 Eren is taller than every other lead in it. Many of those figures come from early in their own stories, but the contrast still shows how deliberately Attack on Titan ages its protagonist. Few long-running shōnen series give their hero a timeskip that turns him into a 6-foot adult and then keep him there for the whole final act.

What 183 cm means in the real world

At 183 cm, Eren is tall by most countries' standards. In the CDC's National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for August 2021 to August 2023, the 85th percentile for American men aged 20 and over is 183.0 cm. That makes Eren taller than about 85% of US adult men, and the height percentile calculator gives the same answer.

Japan is the most natural comparison, since Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga and Eren's original audience is Japanese. The NCD-RisC estimates on this site put the average Japanese man born in 1996 at 170.8 cm (see average height in Japan). Eren at 19 stands about 12 cm above that, and the Eren of 850 sits almost exactly on it. That fits Isayama's first idea of Eren as an ordinary young man.

The names in the series, Yeager, Ackerman, Kirstein, have a German sound, and German men are among the taller populations, at 179.9 cm on average for the 1996 cohort. Even among them, adult Eren is about 3 cm above average. For real people of the same height, the site's celebrity data lists several at 183 cm, which you can find on the 6′0″ feet-to-cm page.

Why Eren's listed height still gets argued about

Three things keep the debate going. The first is the timeskip itself. Many viewers watched the early seasons, saw "170 cm" on a wiki or fan profile, and never saw it updated. The second is art style. Isayama's early chapters are rough, the proportions shift between volumes, and before the final arc Eren often looks smaller than Jean or Reiner even though the 850 figures put him only 10 to 20 cm below them. The third is the long hair and gaunt face of the final arc, which can make adult Eren look taller and leaner on screen than the 183 cm guidebook figure suggests.

For anyone checking, the order of authority is simple. The guidebooks and the Character Encyclopedia FINAL were published by Kodansha alongside the manga and carry Isayama's official profiles. Fan estimates from screenshots can't override them. This site follows the 854 figure for the adult character and notes the 850 figure for the trainee.

Spoiler note: this page mentions Eren's Titan forms and the existence of a final form, but it doesn't discuss how the story ends.

Frequently asked questions

How much did Eren grow during the timeskip?

The original guidebook lists Eren at 170 cm in the year 850, and the Character Encyclopedia FINAL lists him at 183 cm in 854. That is a gain of 13 cm, plus a jump in weight from 63 kg to 82 kg, across the four-year gap before the Marley arc.

Is Eren taller than Mikasa?

In 850 the guidebook gives both Eren and Mikasa 170 cm, so they were level. By 854 Eren is listed at 183 cm and Mikasa at 176 cm, which puts Eren 7 cm taller after the timeskip.
