Real people the same height as Shoto Todoroki
Shoto Todoroki's official height: 176 cm (5′9″)
Shoto Todoroki's height comes from Kohei Horikoshi himself. The bonus profile pages at the back of My Hero Academia Volume 2, known as the omake, list Shoto at 176 cm (5′9″), along with his birthday of January 11 and his age of 15, according to the My Hero Academia Wiki's citations. The site uses 176 cm as his headline height.
That figure makes Shoto one of the tallest students in U.A. High School's Class 1-A. The wiki describes him as moderately tall and rather muscular, well-built for his age because of the intense training his father forced on him as a child. On the page he reads as lean and composed, a contrast to the larger, louder figures around him.

One height across several ages
Horikoshi published one height for Shoto, given when he was 15. The series follows him to 16 during the final war arc and then jumps forward to an epilogue in which he's 24 and a professional hero. No updated height has been published for the older Shoto.
Real-world growth suggests he could have added a little height after 15. Many boys are still growing at that age, often by a few centimeters a year until their late teens. So the 24-year-old Shoto may well be taller than 176 cm, but there's no canon figure, and the site keeps the one official number. If you're comparing adult Shoto with another character, treat 176 cm as a minimum rather than an exact value.
The Ultra Age final fanbook adds some details about the adult Shoto without giving a height. According to the wiki, Horikoshi said that as a pro hero Shoto waves politely to fans and looks them in the eye before signing autographs, habits inspired by Japanese footballer Kaoru Mitoma, and that he no longer sees adult Shoto as an "airhead", although he still takes what people say at face value.
Shoto versus Class 1-A
The site's My Hero Academia data puts Shoto near the top of his class. Here are the Class 1-A students in the dataset:
| Student | Height (cm) | Height (ft/in) | vs Shoto |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tenya Iida | 179 | 5′10″ | +3 cm |
| Shoto Todoroki | 176 | 5′9″ | — |
| Momo Yaoyorozu | 173 | 5′8″ | −3 cm |
| Katsuki Bakugo | 172 | 5′8″ | −4 cm |
| Eijiro Kirishima | 170 | 5′7″ | −6 cm |
| Denki Kaminari | 168 | 5′6″ | −8 cm |
| Izuku Midoriya | 166 | 5′5″ | −10 cm |
| Fumikage Tokoyami | 158 | 5′2″ | −18 cm |
| Ochaco Uraraka | 156 | 5′1″ | −20 cm |
| Kyoka Jiro | 154 | 5′1″ | −22 cm |
| Tsuyu Asui | 150 | 4′11″ | −26 cm |
| Minoru Mineta | 108 | 3′7″ | −68 cm |
Of the students in the data, only Tenya Iida, the class representative, is taller than Shoto, by 3 cm. Everyone else is shorter.
The most-discussed comparison is the "Big Three" of Class 1-A, Izuku, Bakugo and Shoto, who are rivals and eventually friends:
- Shoto vs Bakugo: 176 vs 172 cm. Shoto has 4 cm on him, though Bakugo's spiky hair makes the gap look smaller on the page.
- Shoto vs Izuku: 176 vs 166 cm. A 10 cm gap, the largest of the three pairings, very visible in their Sports Festival fight.
- Bakugo vs Izuku: 172 vs 166 cm, 6 cm.
So Shoto is the tallest of the three, Izuku the shortest, and Bakugo in between, in both height and, early on, temperament.
The Todoroki family: Endeavor, Dabi and Shoto
Shoto's family story is one of the darkest threads in My Hero Academia, and height plays a small but telling part in it.
| Family member | Height (cm) | vs Shoto |
|---|---|---|
| Endeavor (Enji Todoroki, father) | 195 | +19 cm |
| Dabi (Toya Todoroki, eldest brother) | 176 | same |
| Shoto Todoroki | 176 | — |
Endeavor, the Number Two hero turned Number One after All Might's retirement, is listed at 195 cm and 118 kg. He's 19 cm taller than Shoto and enormously heavier. Endeavor's goal was to create a child who could surpass All Might by combining his fire with his wife Rei's ice, a "quirk marriage" that produced Shoto's half-cold, half-hot ability. Shoto got his father's fire, but not his size: at 176 cm, he's of ordinary height for a fit young man, with nothing like Endeavor's bulk.
Dabi is the other key figure. The League of Villains member is revealed late in the story to be Toya Todoroki, Shoto's eldest brother, long believed dead. The wiki lists Dabi at 176 cm, so the two brothers, who end up on opposite sides of the war, are exactly the same height. It's a quiet detail that adds weight to their confrontations: two sons of Endeavor, eye to eye, one a hero and one a villain.
The site doesn't have heights for Rei Todoroki or Shoto's other siblings, Fuyumi and Natsuo, so they aren't in the table.
Shoto against heroes and villains
Outside his class and family, Shoto deals with pros and villains across a huge range of sizes:
| Character | Height (cm) | vs Shoto |
|---|---|---|
| All For One | 225 | +49 cm |
| All Might | 220 | +44 cm |
| Shota Aizawa | 183 | +7 cm |
| Stain | 182 | +6 cm |
| Mirio Togata | 181 | +5 cm |
| Tomura Shigaraki | 175 | −1 cm |
| Hawks | 172 | −4 cm |
| Himiko Toga | 157 | −19 cm |
All Might, the Symbol of Peace, is listed at 220 cm in his muscular form, 44 cm taller than Shoto. Their homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa, is 183 cm, 7 cm taller. The hero killer Stain, whom Shoto, Izuku and Iida fight in Hosu, is 182 cm. Tomura Shigaraki is almost exactly Shoto's height at 175 cm.
Size on a different scale: Shoto's ice
Shoto's own body is ordinary-sized, but his Quirk is not. His right side produces ice, and from his very first fights he creates walls and glaciers many times his height. In the U.A. Sports Festival, he famously answers an opening attack by encasing his opponent in a towering ice glacier that rises far above the stadium floor, a moment that makes a 176 cm teenager look like a force of nature.
That contrast is a recurring visual idea in the series. Endeavor is huge and burns hot; Shoto is slim and builds huge structures out of ice. His power lets him project size rather than carry it. On a comparison chart he's a 176 cm boy, but in a fight he can put an obstacle several stories tall between himself and an enemy in a second.
The same goes for his fire after he learns to use it, with long-range flame attacks influenced by his father's techniques and later moves that combine heat and cold. Height and reach barely matter to a fighter who can freeze half a battlefield.
Academic record and the Sports Festival
The wiki's trivia lists Shoto's known U.A. results, which give a sense of how he's positioned among his peers:
- 2nd in the U.A. Recommendation Entrance Exam, entering on recommendation rather than through the general exam.
- Student No. 15 in Class 1-A.
- 5th in Class 1-A's midterm scores.
- 2nd in Aizawa's Quirk Apprehension Test on the first day.
- Runner-up of the first-year stage of the U.A. Sports Festival, after his final against Bakugo.
- 4,123 nominations from pro heroes after the Sports Festival, the most in Class 1-A.
- Failed his first Provisional Hero License Exam, scoring below 50, and later earned the license in remedial classes.
He's consistently at or near the top, but rarely first, which fits his arc: a gifted student held back for a long time by his refusal to use his father's fire.
Costume changes and how they read
Shoto's hero costume evolved more than most of his classmates'. According to the wiki, his first costume was a plain off-white outfit with straps, a heating vest and a layer of ice-like material covering his whole left side, deliberately rejecting his fire. He later went through what the wiki calls a radical change of costume, dropping everything from the first design except the boots.
The wiki points out an irony here: as Shoto accepted the fire side of his Quirk, his costume and support gear became more like his father's. Dark, fitted hero suits tend to make a figure look taller and leaner than baggy clothes, and the later costume gives Shoto a sharper, more adult silhouette, even though his listed height never changes. In the epilogue, the 24-year-old pro hero looks like a grown man rather than the 15-year-old of Volume 2.
Design, the scar and the half-and-half look
Shoto's look is built around a split down the middle. The wiki describes his hair as evenly divided, white on the right and crimson on the left, with heterochromatic eyes (turquoise on the left, dark gray on the right) and a large burn scar over his left eye. That symmetry and the long, straight lines of his U.A. uniform help him read as tall and still on the page.
According to the wiki's trivia, he may be partly based on the Marvel Comics character Thermite, who could project heat from one side and cold from the other. His Volume 2 profile adds that his favorite food is cold soba. The Ultra Analysis guidebook describes his personality as "a cool and hot airhead".
Shoto's popularity is remarkable. The wiki records that he placed second in the first and fourth official popularity polls and third in most of the others, including the global poll. A calm, tall, quietly powerful character with a tragic family is a reliable formula in shonen manga, and Shoto is one of its most successful examples.
What 176 cm means for a Japanese teenager
Shoto is Japanese, and at 15 he is already 176 cm. The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration's estimates on this site's Japan average height page give Japanese men born in 1996 an average adult height of about 170.8 cm (5′7″). Shoto is about 5 cm above the adult average while still a first-year in high school.
| Comparison group (men born 1996) | Average adult height | Shoto's difference |
|---|---|---|
| Japan | 170.8 cm | +5.2 cm |
| South Korea | 174.9 cm | +1.1 cm |
| United States | 177.1 cm | −1.1 cm |
| Netherlands | 182.5 cm | −6.5 cm |
At 15 that would put him among the tallest boys in a typical Japanese school year. As an adult, 176 cm is tall for Japan and roughly average for the United States. The site's 176 cm page breaks down how common that height is worldwide.
