Where DC character heights come from
DC Comics characters have been around since the 1930s; DC's own Batman profile notes his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Over that time, most characters have been redrawn, rebooted and reimagined many times, so asking how tall one of them is means first asking which version. This site answers with one version for each character: the one the DC Database calls New Earth.
New Earth is the unified DC universe created by Crisis on Infinite Earths, the 12-issue series by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez that ran from April 1985 to March 1986. Wikipedia explains that Wolfman wanted to abandon DC's multiverse, which he thought was unfriendly to readers, and create a single, unified DC Universe. That continuity lasted until 2011, when DC cancelled all its ongoing titles and relaunched with 52 new series, The New 52, and the DC Database files the relaunched versions under a separate "Prime Earth" heading.
Most of the New Earth heights on this list come from the DC Comics Encyclopedia (2008 edition). The DC Database marks those entries with a hidden note naming the book. A few characters, including Darkseid, Cyborg, Lex Luthor, Green Arrow and Supergirl, have heights on the wiki without that note, and this site flags them as less firmly sourced. The table below gives each character's height, the weight where the wiki records one, and whether the wiki ties the New Earth figure to the encyclopedia.
| Character | Height | Weight | Encyclopedia citation on the wiki |
|---|---|---|---|
| Darkseid | 8′9″ (266.7 cm) | 1,815 lb | No |

The Trinity: Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman
DC's three best-known heroes sit close together near the middle of the list.
Superman is listed at 6′3″ (190.5 cm) and 235 lb. Batman is 6′2″ (188 cm) and 210 lb. Wonder Woman is 6′0″ (182.9 cm) and 165 lb. All three figures come from the DC Comics Encyclopedia. Superman is one inch taller and 25 lb heavier than Batman, and Wonder Woman is two inches shorter than Batman. The Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman pages compare each of them with real people and with heroes from other universes.
The post-2011 versions mostly keep the same numbers. The DC Database lists Prime Earth Superman at 6′3″, citing a Batman character encyclopedia, and Prime Earth Bruce Wayne at 6′2″. Wonder Woman is the exception: her Prime Earth entry gives 6′2″, citing the cover of Wonder Woman Vol. 1 #794. On that figure she would match Batman exactly rather than standing two inches below him. This site uses the New Earth encyclopedia value of 6′0″ so that all three come from the same book.
Batman in context
DC's official Batman profile describes Bruce Wayne as a playboy billionaire by day, raised by his parents Thomas and Martha in Gotham City's high society, whose double life gives him a loyal butler-turned-guardian and a base in the caves beneath the family estate. The profile doesn't list a height, so the encyclopedia remains the reference for his size. At 188 cm, Batman stands about 13 cm above the average US man, whom the CDC's 2021–2023 NHANES survey puts at 175.1 cm.
The villains are taller
One clear pattern in the data is that DC's major villains outsize its heroes. Four of the five tallest characters on the list are villains.
- Darkseid, at 8′9″ (266.7 cm) and 1,815 lb, is in a different category. Wikipedia describes him as a New God and the ruler of the planet Apokolips, created by Jack Kirby. He first appeared in a cameo in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 (December 1970) and was fully introduced in Forever People #1 (February 1971). His New Earth entry on the DC Database carries no citation, but the Prime Earth entry repeats the same 8′9″ and 1,815 lb and cites the newer DC Comics Encyclopedia: All-New Edition, so the figure has official backing.
- Bane, at 6′8″ (203.2 cm) and 350 lb, is the tallest Batman villain with an encyclopedia citation. Created by Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench and Graham Nolan, he debuted in Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1 in January 1993, and Wikipedia describes him as combining brute strength with exceptional intelligence.
- The Joker is listed at 6′5″ (195.6 cm) and 192 lb, three inches taller than Batman and 18 lb lighter. The DC Database's Prime Earth Joker, citing the newer DC Comics Encyclopedia: All-New Edition, keeps the same 6′5″. The Joker page looks at the matchup in detail.
- Deathstroke (Slade Wilson) matches the Joker at 6′5″.
Lex Luthor, at 6′2″, is the only major villain on the list who is no taller than the hero he is most associated with. He is an inch shorter than Superman and the same height as Batman.
Justice League members between 5′11″ and 6′6″
Beyond the Trinity, the Justice League lineup covers a 7-inch range. Cyborg (Victor Stone) is the largest at 6′6″ and 385 lb, by far the heaviest hero on the list with a published weight, consistent with his cybernetic body. Wikipedia notes that he was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, first appeared in 1980 and was later reimagined as a founding Justice League member in the 2010s. Green Lantern Hal Jordan matches Batman at 6′2″, Aquaman is 6′1″, and The Flash Barry Allen and Green Arrow Oliver Queen are both 5′11″.
The clustering is striking. Eleven of the twelve men on the list fall between 5′11″ and 6′8″, and only Darkseid stands outside the human range. Every one of those eleven is at least 5 cm taller than the average US man.
The women of DC
The female characters span 5′4″ to 6′0″:
| Character | Height | Difference from the average US woman (161.2 cm) |
|---|---|---|
| Wonder Woman | 182.9 cm (6′0″) | +21.7 cm |
| Harley Quinn | 170.2 cm (5′7″) | +9.0 cm |
| Catwoman | 170.2 cm (5′7″) | +9.0 cm |
| Supergirl | 165.1 cm (5′5″) | +3.9 cm |
| Black Canary | 162.6 cm (5′4″) | +1.4 cm |
Wonder Woman is the outlier, a full 5 inches taller than Harley Quinn and Catwoman. Even Black Canary, the shortest character on the list, is slightly above the CDC average for US women. Supergirl, at 5′5″, is listed 10 inches shorter than Superman, although her height has no encyclopedia citation on the wiki.
New Earth versus Prime Earth: did anyone change size?
DC's 2011 relaunch was a chance to redesign characters, so it is worth checking whether the official numbers moved. The DC Database's Prime Earth entries cite newer reference books, including the DC Comics Encyclopedia: All-New Edition, a 2021 DC Comics Encyclopedia: New Edition and a Batman Character Encyclopedia. Comparing them with the 2008 figures:
| Character | New Earth (2008 encyclopedia) | Prime Earth (newer source) |
|---|---|---|
| Darkseid | 8′9″, 1,815 lb | 8′9″, 1,815 lb |
| Bane | 6′8″, 350 lb | 6′8″, 350 lb |
| Joker | 6′5″, 192 lb | 6′5″ |
| Superman | 6′3″, 235 lb | 6′3″ |
| Lex Luthor | 6′2″, 210 lb | 6′2″, 210 lb |
| Wonder Woman | 6′0″, 165 lb | 6′2″ |
| The Flash (Barry Allen) | 5′11″, 179 lb | 6′0″, 195 lb |
| Harley Quinn | 5′7″, 140 lb | 5′7″, 115 lb |
| Catwoman | 5′7″, 138 lb | 5′7″, 128 lb |
Heights barely change. Only two characters grow: Wonder Woman gains two inches, and Barry Allen gains an inch along with 16 lb. Weights shift more, especially for Harley Quinn, whose listed weight drops by 25 lb. In practice, the post-2011 universe keeps almost the same sense of scale, which is why this site can use one set of New Earth figures without misrepresenting current comics.
What the weights reveal
The encyclopedia's weight figures add a second dimension. Aquaman, at 6′1″, is listed at 325 lb, 90 lb more than Superman despite being two inches shorter, the most surprising figure in the 2008 book. Cyborg's 385 lb is the heaviest of any non-Darkseid character, and Darkseid's 1,815 lb is almost five times Cyborg's.
Batman's 210 lb at 6′2″ and Deathstroke's 225 lb at 6′5″ describe heavily built men. Lex Luthor shares Batman's 6′2″ and 210 lb exactly in both eras. At the light end of the men, Barry Allen's 179 lb at 5′11″ makes the Flash the leanest hero in the book, with Hal Jordan close behind at 186 lb and 6′2″. The gap between the Flash and Aquaman is about 146 lb, even though the Flash is only two inches shorter, which shows how differently the encyclopedia imagines each hero's build. In the Prime Earth figures, Barry Allen moves closer to the others, at 6′0″ and 195 lb.
The women's figures range from Black Canary's 124 lb to Harley Quinn's 140 lb in the 2008 book, and Wonder Woman, at 165 lb, is the heaviest woman on the list as well as the tallest.
Comics heights versus real people
Because DC heights are rounded to whole inches, many characters share identical figures. Batman, Green Lantern and Lex Luthor are all exactly 6′2″, and Harley Quinn and Catwoman both 5′7″. Real height data rarely clusters so neatly. The rounding also explains the odd decimals on this site, such as 188.0 cm and 170.2 cm, which are exact conversions of inch values.
Real athletes give a sense of these sizes. Batman's 188 cm matches the height listed on this site for Stephen Curry, and Bane's 203.2 cm is close to the 203 cm listed for NBA players Luka Dončić and Jayson Tatum. Superman's 190.5 cm sits between them, and Wonder Woman's 182.9 cm is within a few millimeters of many 6′0″ athletes and entertainers on the site.
Against real-world averages, the cast is tall. The average man on the list, excluding Darkseid, is about 190 cm, roughly 15 cm above the US male average of 175.1 cm. The women average about 170 cm, nearly 9 cm above the US female average of 161.2 cm.
To compare any of these characters with real people, load them into the 3D height comparison tool, or use the height difference calculator to get exact gaps, such as Bane against Batman. The characters hub collects the site's other franchises, including Marvel, for cross-universe matchups.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Joker taller than Batman?
Yes, in the official figures. The DC Comics Encyclopedia (2008) lists the Joker at 6′5″ (196 cm) and Batman at 6′2″ (188 cm), so the Joker is 3 inches taller. The DC Database's entry for the post-2011 Prime Earth Joker keeps the 6′5″ figure.
How tall is Superman compared with Batman?
Superman is listed at 6′3″ (190.5 cm) and 235 lb, and Batman at 6′2″ (188 cm) and 210 lb, both from the DC Comics Encyclopedia. Superman is one inch taller and 25 lb heavier.
How tall is Wonder Woman?
The DC Comics Encyclopedia lists the pre-2011 Wonder Woman at 6′0″ (183 cm) and 165 lb, which is the figure used on this site. The DC Database gives her post-2011 Prime Earth version 6′2″, citing a Wonder Woman comic cover, which would make her as tall as Batman.
Who is the tallest DC character on this list?
Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips created by Jack Kirby, at 8′9″ (267 cm) and 1,815 lb according to the DC Database. His New Earth entry has no citation, but the wiki's post-2011 Prime Earth entry gives the same 8′9″ and 1,815 lb and cites the DC Comics Encyclopedia: All-New Edition.
What does New Earth mean?
New Earth is the DC Database's name for the single unified DC universe created by the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths and used until DC relaunched its line as The New 52 in 2011. Most of the heights on this list come from that era's reference book, the DC Comics Encyclopedia.
Why are DC heights given in feet and inches?
DC's reference books and character profiles are American publications that list height and weight in imperial units. This site converts them to centimeters, so a 6′2″ listing becomes 188 cm.
Who is the tallest DC Comics character?
Darkseid is the tallest DC Comics character in our list at 266.7 cm (8′9″).
Who is the shortest DC Comics character?
Black Canary is the shortest at 162.6 cm (5′4″).
What is the average height of DC Comics characters?
The average of the 17 human-sized characters listed here is 188.9 cm (6′2″). For comparison, the average US man is 175.1 cm and the average US woman 161.2 cm (CDC).
Where do these DC Comics heights come from?
Every height is cited to the DC Database. For 12 of the 17 entries, that page names the primary source (typically official DC reference guides such as Who's Who). For 5, the wiki gives the value without naming a primary source, and the character page says so. Each character page links to the exact page used.
