One chart behind every Chainsaw Man height

Tatsuki Fujimoto's Chainsaw Man began in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in December 2018. Its first arc ran there until December 2020, and its second arc ran on the Shōnen Jump+ app and website from July 2022 to March 2026, for a total of 24 volumes. Wikipedia reports more than 36 million copies in circulation by June 2026, along with the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award and three straight Harvey Awards for Best Manga. MAPPA's TV anime aired from October to December 2022, and Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc opened in Japan on September 19, 2025.

For a series this popular, its official height data is unusually thin. The Chainsaw Man Wiki cites the same source for every height it records: the Chainsaw Man Anime Exhibition character height chart. The wiki does not cite a databook or fanbook for these figures, as it does for Demon Slayer or Attack on Titan. The figures come from a single chart prepared for the anime, so they describe the first-arc cast as it appeared in the 2022 series. (Wikipedia separately mentions a Chainsaw Man Manga Exhibition held at Tower Records Shibuya in 2021. That is a different event, and it is not the one the wiki cites.)

Every character on the chart is listed to the whole centimeter, and the chart covers eight characters:

Character Height Species (per the wiki) Age (where stated)
Kishibe 194 cm (6′4½″) Human 50+
Aki Hayakawa 182 cm (6′0″) Human (later a Fiend host) —
Himeno 175 cm (5′9″) Human —
Denji 173 cm (5′8″) Human (hybrid) 16
Power 170 cm (5′7″) Fiend —
Makima 168 cm (5′6″) Devil —
Kobeni Higashiyama 155 cm (5′1″) Human 20
Angel Devil 155 cm (5′1″) Devil —

Denji, Power and Aki: the first-arc core

Denji, Aki Hayakawa and Power are the three characters fans compare most often, and the exhibition chart gives them a clear order. Aki is the tallest at 182 cm, Denji the middle at 173 cm, and Power the shortest at 170 cm. The spread is only 12 cm, small enough that posture and camera angle in the anime can easily hide it.

Denji's figure is the one fans ask about most, and the Denji character page covers it in depth. The wiki gives his age as 16 from Chapter 1 to Chapter 82, citing the manga. At 173 cm he matches the height listed on this site for Tom Holland, which makes the two an easy real-world pairing for comparisons.

Power is listed as a Fiend, a former Devil, and the wiki records her age as unknown. At 170 cm she is 2 cm taller than Makima, one of the less obvious results on the chart.

Makima's height and the Public Safety cast

Makima, at 168 cm, is one of the most commanding figures in the story but one of the shorter adults on the chart. She is 5 cm shorter than Denji, 14 cm shorter than Aki and 26 cm shorter than Kishibe. The wiki lists her species as Devil and keeps her age as unknown, with an editors' note warning against changing it without a source. The Makima page compares her with every member of the cast.

Her case shows that height in Chainsaw Man doesn't track how imposing a character feels on the page. Several of the devil hunters around her are taller than she is. The tallest character on the chart is not a protagonist at all. Kishibe, whose age the manga gives as over 50, stands 194 cm. Himeno is listed at 175 cm, making her the tallest woman on the chart and 7 cm taller than Makima.

Humans, Fiends and Devils compared

One unusual feature of the chart is that it mixes species. Of the eight characters, five are human, at least initially, and three are Devils or Fiends.

Group Characters Average height
Humans (as introduced) Kishibe, Aki, Himeno, Denji, Kobeni 175.8 cm
Devils and Fiends Power, Makima, Angel Devil 164.3 cm

The humans are taller on average, but the comparison mostly reflects which characters were chosen for the chart. Kishibe's 194 cm pulls the human average up, and the Angel Devil's 155 cm pulls the Devil average down. Devils in the series take many forms, and the chart only records the human-shaped bodies that these characters use on screen.

The Angel Devil, listed as male on the wiki, shares the shortest height with Kobeni Higashiyama at 155 cm. That makes him 13 cm shorter than Makima and 20 cm shorter than Himeno, an unusual case of a male character shorter than every woman on the chart except Kobeni. Kobeni is 20 years old in the story, according to the manga, so her 155 cm is an adult height.

How the cast compares with real people in Japan

Chainsaw Man is set in Japan, so Japanese averages give a natural reference point. The NCD Risk Factor Collaboration estimates that Japanese men born in 1996 average 170.8 cm and women 158.3 cm, the figures shown on this site's Japan average height page. The same study notes that Japan's large 20th-century height gain stopped for people born after the early 1960s, so today's young adults are about as tall as their parents.

Measured against those averages:

  • Denji (173 cm) is 2.2 cm above the average adult Japanese man, even at 16.
  • Aki (182 cm) is about 11 cm above it, and Kishibe (194 cm) more than 23 cm above.
  • Himeno (175 cm) is almost 17 cm taller than the average Japanese woman and taller than the average Japanese man.
  • Power (170 cm) and Makima (168 cm) are roughly 12 cm and 10 cm above the average Japanese woman.
  • Kobeni (155 cm) is about 3 cm below the female average, the only human woman on the chart who is.

Compared with Americans, the cast is closer to average. The CDC's 2021–2023 NHANES survey puts the average US man at 175.1 cm and woman at 161.2 cm, so Denji is about 2 cm below the US male average while Makima is still about 7 cm above the US female average.

Denji's height for a 16-year-old

Because Denji is 16 for most of the first arc, the fairest comparison is with other 16-year-olds, not adults. The CDC's stature-for-age growth chart data, the reference behind US pediatric growth charts, gives a median height of about 173.5 cm for boys at exactly 16 years. Denji's 173 cm puts him almost exactly at the middle, around the 47th percentile, for his age on that reference.

The same CDC data shows how much growth is typical afterward. The median for 20-year-old men is 176.8 cm, about 3 cm more than at 16. If Denji followed that typical pattern he would end up around 176 cm, though the series' official chart records only the single 173 cm figure. On the same reference, Denji's current 173 cm would sit near the 30th percentile for a 20-year-old. The height percentile calculator runs this kind of comparison for any age and height.

Kobeni is the other character with a stated age. At 20 and 155 cm, she sits at about the 10th percentile for 20-year-old women on the CDC reference, whose median is 163.3 cm. By Japanese standards she is closer to typical, just 3 cm below the NCD-RisC adult female average.

The whole cast on the same scale

Running every character through the CDC's 20-year-old reference, the last age on the US growth charts, shows where each one would fall among young American adults of the same sex. Makima and Aki, for instance, sit at the same percentile even though they are 14 cm apart:

Character Height Approximate percentile at age 20 (CDC reference)
Kishibe 194 cm 99th (men)
Aki Hayakawa 182 cm 77th (men)
Denji 173 cm 30th (men)
Angel Devil 155 cm below 1st (men)
Himeno 175 cm 97th (women)
Power 170 cm 85th (women)
Makima 168 cm 77th (women)
Kobeni Higashiyama 155 cm 10th (women)

Two results stand out. Himeno, at the 97th percentile for women, is proportionally even taller than Aki is for men. The Angel Devil, a Devil rather than a human, falls far below the male range, which says more about the human-shaped body the series gives him than about any human comparison. These percentiles are a way to read the chart, not official character data.

Height gaps between key pairs

Fans tend to compare characters in pairs, and the exhibition chart settles the most common debates:

Pair Heights Difference
Denji and Makima 173 cm vs 168 cm Denji by 5 cm
Denji and Power 173 cm vs 170 cm Denji by 3 cm
Denji and Aki 173 cm vs 182 cm Aki by 9 cm
Aki and Kishibe 182 cm vs 194 cm Kishibe by 12 cm
Makima and Himeno 168 cm vs 175 cm Himeno by 7 cm
Himeno and Kobeni 175 cm vs 155 cm Himeno by 20 cm
Kishibe and Kobeni 194 cm vs 155 cm Kishibe by 39 cm

The Denji–Makima gap is the one most often argued about online. At 5 cm, or about 2 inches, it is small enough that footwear and posture in any single panel or frame can make it look larger or disappear entirely.

Characters without official heights

The chart's narrow scope means several major characters have no official height. The wiki's entries for Reze, the central figure of the 2025 film, and for Asa Mitaka, who leads the manga's second arc after making a contract with Yoru, the War Devil, have no height field. The same is true of Pochita, the dog-like Chainsaw Devil fused with Denji.

Fans often estimate these characters from panels and screenshots, but this site only records heights from official material. Wikipedia reports that an anime adaptation of the manga's "Assassins" arc has been announced, so new official material may follow. Until Shueisha or MAPPA publish another chart or a databook, the eight exhibition figures are the complete official record, and this list will not add characters based on guesswork.

Comparing Chainsaw Man characters

The full range of the chart runs from 155 cm to 194 cm, a 39 cm gap. Most of the main characters cluster between 168 and 182 cm, with Kishibe as a clear outlier above and Kobeni and the Angel Devil below.

To see these differences to scale, load any of the characters into the 3D height comparison tool alongside real people, or use the height difference calculator to work out the exact gap between, for example, Makima and Aki. The characters hub lists every franchise on the site, from Jujutsu Kaisen to Star Wars.

Frequently asked questions

Is Makima taller than Denji?

No. The Chainsaw Man Anime Exhibition height chart lists Makima at 168 cm (5′6″) and Denji at 173 cm (5′8″), so Denji is 5 cm taller. Power, at 170 cm, is also taller than Makima.

How tall is Aki Hayakawa?

182 cm (6′0″), according to the Chainsaw Man Anime Exhibition height chart. That makes him 9 cm taller than Denji and 12 cm taller than Power, the two characters he is most often compared with.

Kobeni Higashiyama and the Angel Devil, both listed at 155 cm (5′1″) on the exhibition chart. Kobeni is 20 years old in the story, according to the manga, while the Angel Devil, listed as male, is shorter than every woman on the chart except Kobeni, with whom he ties.

Why don't Reze and Asa Mitaka have official heights?

The only official height source the Chainsaw Man Wiki cites is a chart made for the anime exhibition, which covers characters from the 2022 TV anime. Reze, who appears in the 2025 film, and Asa Mitaka, the lead of the manga's second arc, have no height in their wiki entries.

How tall is Denji for his age?

Denji is 16 for most of the first arc and is listed at 173 cm. NCD-RisC estimates that Japanese men born in 1996 average 170.8 cm as adults, so Denji is already a little above the average adult Japanese man.

How tall is Kishibe?

Kishibe is listed at 194 cm (6′4½″), the tallest character on the exhibition chart. The manga gives his age as over 50, making him both the oldest and the tallest of the Public Safety devil hunters with a published height.

Who is the tallest Chainsaw Man character?
